where can i get a good battery for my thinkpad x201? I am scared of ebay and amazon knockoffs but i don't want to pay a lot of money for it. my current I think is either a 4 or 6 cell at 40% capacity and lasts about an hour. Hook me up /g/.
ebay knockoffs are great
get ones that have a lot of ratings.
mine's still running g-g-great
the capacity might not be up to snuff, like 80% of an original but at like 30% of the price
check mine out
(How do I upvote here?)
just bough that. good resolution, webcam. and im adding a ssd
Also my T400 has a red tinted screen once I install any Intel driver be it outdated but working Lenovo drivers or new but broken for OpenGL Microsoft drivers. It changes to normal if I bump the screen color settings but then after a second it changes back to red-ish and ignores all colors. What be happening?
I was thining about getting a thinkpad, but what about media consumption?
I watch a lot of movies and videos when I'm not studying, how does the thinkpad fair for 1080p video.
Or is the thinkpad just not meant for that?
Firstly, thinkpads are a laptop series, and range from 12" tablets to 17" workstations, there is not "the thinkpad"
But to answer your question, all made in the past 5 years will play 1080p video fine
My x200 is 6 years old and plays 1080p blu-ray rips fine, I only get problems when I try play them fullscreen on my external 1440p monitor
My X220 recently had a problem where the left most part of the screen would distort depending on what angle the screen was tilted. It was a clearly defined section of the screen, which google told me was a monitor issue. I've replaced the panel and it works fine now, but jesus christ the thing was built in September 2012, I got it 6 months later, there was only 1 cycle on the battery and it appeared to be brand new. It had experienced light use, only a few trips.
I wish IBM had never given it all up.
There are a couple of big computer parts stores in my city (Brisbane) that stock 8 cell batteries for it, I just want a 4 cell
I can't use ebay because I don't have an address (ebay wont accept PO boxes for a address), phone, or an email host I can trust
You're just going to bring more attention to it.
X61 or T60p shall be suitable for jootube or Netflix. Regarding downloaded movies, they can handle 1080p fine, 1080p streams? Not so much.
16:10 screen would be better regarding letterboxing but please if the issue will be format why aren't you using a 21:9 cinematic display?!
where did you guys got your W8.1 drivers from ? I'm struggling with a T410, but something is not feeling right... Changing windows all by itself, touchpad stopping suddenly. Can't seem to get the hang of it!
IBM releases a grey Thinkpad in 1993
>/g/ doesn't bat an eyelid
Lenovo tries to release a grey Aluminium ThinkPad
>/g/ goes crazy and shits all over it
You guys don't know what you want.
Yeah, already have a squarephobia! Just trusted a friend, who said it was not "that bad"... But I think I got it sorted... Synaptics driver needed the "Lenovo Settings" from the store in order to be able to turn off some "features" of the trackpad.
I had a IBM PS/Note 425 (I tthink, its in storage) and it closely resemled one of the first ThinkPads. A 300 or 500, damn thing didn't boot up, it was missing ram I believe.
You could get a WXGA+ screen but as far as I know there was an IPS 16:10 screen.
Nor was there even a WSXGA+ or higher.
Unless you wish to take chances modding.
you need DRM for turning off features on your hardware?
this sounds like real fun, now I'm totally going microsoft windows 8.1 ultimate pro tm.
tangentially, how do you clean the clit /g/?
that fucker is dirty in no time
>refurbished X230 WITH 320gb HDD, 1366 x 768 display, intel i5 and 4GB RAM
Is this a good deal? I'm not in murica so there aren't many thinkpad resellers but this place offers former demo laptops.
I'm going to be using it for uni, watching anime and browsing. Should I try look elsewhere?
Just picked up a near mint x201 for £150, came with 4gb ram 300gb 7200rpm hdd and a 9 cell. The 9 cell holds 92kwh of it's original 94kwh. Got it next day special delivery :)
Did I do good /g/ ?
Hey guys, I want to replace the display on my t430 with the x1 carbon's. I've never bought a laptop display before, should I have anything to worry about buying from ebay if they say it's a specific model and have good feedback? This was the cheapest one I could find. The item in question is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LG-Philips-LP140WD2-TL-E2-Laptop-Screen-14-0-034-LED-BACKLIT-HD-Compatible-/360785112508?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
Rate my brandless laptop.
> inb4 no thinkpad
How much did you pay for yours?
im not a screen guy but non tablet thinkpad models usually suffer from cheap panels, if you are very concerned about that or will use it for graphic design or something you can always buy a new panel
The only way is to check the sold listings via eBay
i5 is good for your tasks, i7 just wastes more juice given the slight performance boost, not worth imo.
you know its going to be a tight fit when doing so?
I'd say so, batteries are a complete bitch, hopefully yours doesn't die randomly, mine did, but I believe the car charger was the culprit, never used it before.
by saying it was never delivered to your home
Tablet version is slightly bigger, X201s with the WXGA+ screen is the answer, especially if you get the i7 that is full voltage if you want a long lasting unit
Nothing wrong with that.
I guess they get decent deals from the surplus.
Sorry, but that's not a ThinkPad.
And if it is, why are you faggots still buying them? Spend your money on a proper laptop, like a Latitude, or a Precision if you've got the cash.
What you can do is rebuild the battery for them. I did some research for mine, because I really wanted to get some battery life out of it. Here is the link:
I'll be trying this in the future, once I get settled and get an evening just to myself.
Hey /g/, I removed the pic related key, but now I can't put it back. How do I insert this fucking button?
>talking to girl is fun
>looking at her and being with her is not
the only person who suffers from this more than me is her
>two years ago
>be a Macfag and come into these threads
>"wow, these computers look retarded."
>gave MBP to imouto and I have two ThinkPads, one with animu wallpaper
This place changes you.
My X220t is smelling like burnt plastic/wood. It's really toxic smelling.
I've already opened it up and replaced the thermal paste and it runs really cool now but the smell is still there.
Is it the plastic burning? Something else?
What are my options?
dude that ordered the $140 elite book here
>reported missing rubber feet and a broken usb port
>reported to have a loose battery hook
and the results
>battery holds a charge
>no bios password lock (was worried about this)
>hdd it shipped with was fucked (now has a 500gb drive I had lying around in it)
>has 6 usb works and I've used 3 of them so far, all work
>battery barely moves 1mm and still sits securely
looks like I struck gold, it's got a recycling sticker on it but the damn thing works perfect and almost looks new, battery works and stays in, most rubber feet are still on so it sits nice
I've ordered a complete screen assembly with a 1080p lcd in it for $90 so this thing should be great once I get that installed
>have owned this X220t for four months
>just noticed now that the trackpad and trackpad buttons don't work very well at all, buttons stick and touchpad jumps when mousing around
Good thing it's still under warranty, also the corner of my palmrest is cracked and creaks if you push on it which is super annoying. I was about to buy a palm rest myself, but it looks like I just saved $40.
I have a few EliteBooks and a couple ThinkPads (and a few super old Latitudes that are in pieces in the attic), should take a pic of all of them one day for /g/-cred.
Somewhat rare X60/61 Tablets had an SXGA+ screen
X300/301 come with WXGA+ screens.
Despite it being LED its decent during the day, not great.
it's pretty alright
>dis pop up light for the keyboard
My x220 developed distorted bright spots on the screen after a few months. I found a bunch of people on a forum saying they had the same issue and Lenovo was asking $700 to fix it, blaming it on misuse, so I never even tried. It's not really a big deal, I only use it at school, but kinda lame. Thinkpads just ain't built like they used to be.
Depends if you are upgrading to an IPS display from an XGA.
Otherwise no, I'd get a T400 as a beater imo.
I think the T4x series has a sort of charm the T6x doesn't...
>good build quality
>t61 hinges get so loose you can barely use the laptop
just got a x61 tablet for 10 bucks at a goodwill, no batt, no ac cable, hdd still has 'Jeff's vista business still loaded on it. after I get power for it, are there Win 7 drivers for it?
The slight case in which our theologians gold the flesh comes only from the fact that familiarity breeds contempt. When they tell us that the soul is of greater excellence than the body, they tell us nothing unless that it be that that with which they have no acquaintance must perforce be finer, nobler, than that whereupon they have a few vapid ideas.
