>installing malware
You're part of the problem

PC games should be bought then pirated to avoid fat gaben and his evil corporation
>>
the only reason i installed steam is because i ran across an article mentioning free games on it
so i'm only looking for free games at this time
>>

Ignore this faggets. Steam its ok.
>>
>>44016144
I think someone totaled up the amount of free games you could get on Steam if, something like 30+. Some pretty damn cool ones too, like L4D2 and Portal.
>>
>>44016188
>Some pretty damn cool ones too, like L4D2 and Portal.
I don't think you can get these for free anymore, weren't they limited offers? Just like Half-Life 2 Deathmatch...
>>
>>44016104
Stream is proprietary drm botnet. But you can play portals
>>
Does anyone remember when Steam was really new and they tried starting this video service? There was this short film about three guys stuck in a car during the zombie apocalypse.

What was that movie called? I kinda want to rewatch it.
>>
>>44016156
Yuo english good? Me too.
>>
im trying to remember my old password now, i made a steam account back in the day
>>

If you're into hack'n'slay games try out Path Of Exile. I think it's great

Pretty fucked actually.
DRM has come a long way since 10-11 years ago and it sucks more than ever before.

Do you want to install a game that you paid good money for on another machine? Then fuck you and log onto Steam. Want to give a free copy to a friend? Then fuck you and buy him another one. Also make sure your computer is online in order to get half of your games working.

Thankfully most DRM can be broken though.

I'm just hoping GOG Galaxy turns out to be halfway decent. I'm tired of dealing with this shit.
>>

okay wtf
I was finally able to retrieve my userid and remembered the password I used
signed in, clicked on Store and everything disappeared
what is this shit?
>>

>>
>>44016514
Congratulations man
>>
>>44016587
thanks.

Warframe, is that a good game?
or DOTA?
>>
>>44016576
>uplay
Why aren't you boycotting this shit? Origin is bad enough as it is. We don't need every AAA publisher creating their own DRM infested store.
>>
>>44016104
Completely fucked.

Steam switched from Microsoft's Trident rendering engine for their client to WebKit after they released it for the Mac.

Ever since then, every bit of the software has been shit slow, and terrible WebKit support on Windows means Steam is only worthwhile on every other platform EXCEPT the one it was originally designed for.

Also, Valve is guaranteed to transition to OpenGL as the default render for all their new games (Source 2). You can be damned sure it will be SHIT SLOW on Windows (again, where the money's at) as compared to if they had just stuck with DirectX.

Honestly, why must GNU/Unix* ruin everything?
>>
>>44016632
because i wanted to play watch dogs, it was free and boycotts don't work in 2014?
>>
>>44016631
Warframe is fantastic. You DO NOT need steam for it though, to avoid botnets do the standalone download. Add me on warframe, my name is xolectic. Maybe I can give you some free stuff when you reach rank 2.
>>
>>44016689
im pretty sure its free on pirate bay
>>
>>44016660
im actually on nix right now, haven't installed it on my windows partition as yet, not sure i will

>>44016695
thanks man, appreciate this
>>
>>44016222
Dunno.

Half-Life 2 is probably going to go free this fall, or at least hook a VERY gracious discount, seeing as November will be the 10th anniversary of it's release.
>>
>>44016723
and it was free on steam after some autist paid $300 for a dota item just because it had genuine in front of the name.
>>
What percentage of Steam users are PC elitist?
>>
>>44016632
Every DRM infested store is bad and Valvedrones are pro-monopoly hypocrites, implying Steam is somehow special because it was there first.

>tfw it's been ten years
>>
>>44016660
>You can be damned sure it will be SHIT SLOW on Windows

False.
IIRC, even when Valve was alpha testing their Linux client, the OpenGL version of L4D ran significantly faster even on Windows when compared to the OpenGL version.
>>
>>44016803
I never implied Steam was special. I just used Origin as an example. I guess I should have said Origin and Steam but whatever.
>>
>>44016871
...when compared to the DirectX version*

Sorry.
>>
>>44016188
on linux there is barely a dozen free games
>>
>>44016851

CS:S is fucking shit, it was when it was released, they improved it slightly but it was too little too late. What all the real guys did was stick with 1.6 because Source was terrible, then gave up on it in about 2009/10 or so, didn't play any FPS for a couple of years, then started playing CS:GO.

>>
>>44016972
Is CS:GO any better overall?

- worse hit reg
- cluttered maps with poor visibility
+ more gun balance
>>
>>
>>44016284
This might be it?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0832524/
>>
>>44017073

CS:GO's spray pattern is just like CS1.6 If you want good hit reg play on 128 tick servers and now shit matchmaking..
>>
>>44017002
check out tesseract.
Its a really good and advanced cube 2 based engine/game.
>>
>>44017113

Not*

Also
>cluttered maps

The main maps are taken directly from CS1.6 and CS:S..
>>
>>44017113
128 tick doesn't solve some hit reg issues it has, for example when standing still and jumping.

Also the thing about the maps in GO is it's hard to spot the enemy sometimes. Visibility is really mediocre.
>>
>>44016660
Steam has been faster since the update. There's something wrong with your computer.
>>
>>44017113
One thing I absolutely fucking HATED about CS:S was the fact that silencers had NO impact on accuracy like they had in 1.6.

Did GO fix that?
>>
>>44017469
Yeah, GO actually made the M4A1-S be more accurate, at the cost of 10 bullets tho
>>
OP here, well fuck, I liked warframe but its for windows only
any other games?

Surprisingly enough it wouldn't be horrible if I had to play games in a free software environment. I'd just have to emulate everything from two decades ago.
>>
>>44019246
odds are the games you'd be playing are nonfree
>>
>>44016901
because they took a shitton of time to optimize it for opengl.
>>
>>44019267
Well yeah that does sort of contradict the free environment thing since you can't exercise all of the essential freedoms.

It's still closer to freedom though. It'd be very hard to implement malicious code into a NES emulator.

so is it like world of warcraft and cod combined?
>>
>>44020909
you're stupid if you think this is true lol

search and destroy is the only COD gametype that is anywhere near counterstrike, but the basic gun physics of COD make it a terrible game..

as an aside, have you guys used genymotion as an android emulator?
any thoughts?

Actually, that's exactly what it means, because you're given a ToS to read and agree to when you install it, just like every other piece of proprietary software.
