just re installed Steam again after about 10 - 11 years or so
how fucked am i?
Does anyone remember when Steam was really new and they tried starting this video service? There was this short film about three guys stuck in a car during the zombie apocalypse.
What was that movie called? I kinda want to rewatch it.
Pretty fucked actually.
DRM has come a long way since 10-11 years ago and it sucks more than ever before.
Do you want to install a game that you paid good money for on another machine? Then fuck you and log onto Steam. Want to give a free copy to a friend? Then fuck you and buy him another one. Also make sure your computer is online in order to get half of your games working.
Thankfully most DRM can be broken though.
I'm just hoping GOG Galaxy turns out to be halfway decent. I'm tired of dealing with this shit.
Steam switched from Microsoft's Trident rendering engine for their client to WebKit after they released it for the Mac.
Ever since then, every bit of the software has been shit slow, and terrible WebKit support on Windows means Steam is only worthwhile on every other platform EXCEPT the one it was originally designed for.
Also, Valve is guaranteed to transition to OpenGL as the default render for all their new games (Source 2). You can be damned sure it will be SHIT SLOW on Windows (again, where the money's at) as compared to if they had just stuck with DirectX.
Honestly, why must GNU/Unix* ruin everything?
Warframe is fantastic. You DO NOT need steam for it though, to avoid botnets do the standalone download. Add me on warframe, my name is xolectic. Maybe I can give you some free stuff when you reach rank 2.
>tfw remember getting the entire Source release pack free with my Athlon 64 3200+
>tfw it's been ten fucking years and the actual graphics of games have barely gotten better
>tfw CS:S is still one of the best shooters with an active community
>tfw it's been ten years
>You can be damned sure it will be SHIT SLOW on Windows
IIRC, even when Valve was alpha testing their Linux client, the OpenGL version of L4D ran significantly faster even on Windows when compared to the OpenGL version.
CS:S is fucking shit, it was when it was released, they improved it slightly but it was too little too late. What all the real guys did was stick with 1.6 because Source was terrible, then gave up on it in about 2009/10 or so, didn't play any FPS for a couple of years, then started playing CS:GO.
128 tick doesn't solve some hit reg issues it has, for example when standing still and jumping.
Also the thing about the maps in GO is it's hard to spot the enemy sometimes. Visibility is really mediocre.
>Using proprietary software
>Still playing video games
Well yeah that does sort of contradict the free environment thing since you can't exercise all of the essential freedoms.
It's still closer to freedom though. It'd be very hard to implement malicious code into a NES emulator.
OP here, I had abandoned the thread, got busy with stuff
I just came back to tell the two retards who've told me to post this in /v/ that if I trusted video game playing virgins with anything, I would've surely posted it there.
This thread is on /g/ now, fucking deal with it.
you're stupid if you think this is true lol
search and destroy is the only COD gametype that is anywhere near counterstrike, but the basic gun physics of COD make it a terrible game..
Destroying enemy team base main building with 4 teammates before that other team does it.
Includes every bad aspect of multiplayer game communication between players.
High learning curve.
>Malicious computer software that interferes with normal computer functions or sends personal data about the user to unauthorized parties over the Internet.
Key word, unauthorized. Stop being wrong, okay?
Actually, that's exactly what it means, because you're given a ToS to read and agree to when you install it, just like every other piece of proprietary software.
The Stallman-inspired cognitive dissonance was cute for a while, but it got stale around 2010. Try some new material, eh? Maybe a little critical thinking?
