DRM has come a long way since 10-11 years ago and it sucks more than ever before.

Do you want to install a game that you paid good money for on another machine? Then fuck you and log onto Steam. Want to give a free copy to a friend? Then fuck you and buy him another one. Also make sure your computer is online in order to get half of your games working.

Thankfully most DRM can be broken though.

Steam switched from Microsoft's Trident rendering engine for their client to WebKit after they released it for the Mac.

Ever since then, every bit of the software has been shit slow, and terrible WebKit support on Windows means Steam is only worthwhile on every other platform EXCEPT the one it was originally designed for.

Also, Valve is guaranteed to transition to OpenGL as the default render for all their new games (Source 2). You can be damned sure it will be SHIT SLOW on Windows (again, where the money's at) as compared to if they had just stuck with DirectX.

CS:S is fucking shit, it was when it was released, they improved it slightly but it was too little too late. What all the real guys did was stick with 1.6 because Source was terrible, then gave up on it in about 2009/10 or so, didn't play any FPS for a couple of years, then started playing CS:GO.
