it's a bit like the hole in the ozone layer; we banned chloroflurocarbonwhatevers and that pretty much was all we needed to fix that. risc did change things. so much so that risc principles are in non-risc chips and risc chips have become a hell of a lot more complicated. so it changed everything, which is why you never hear about it anymore: it's already been changed, it's not news.

if it is buckling springs, then it is nowhere near as loud as a model m. the keys have a squishy spot at the beginning of the stroke, then goes down without much effort. they are kinda "loose" feeling though, and sometimes they catch and friction makes them more difficult to press. as if, they needed to be cleaned, or lubed. ...people dont lube mechanical switches to they?

the mono ones require a special monitor though, so you probably wont be able to just get a $200 slab.

its a thick cable that carries the video signal, the keyboard/mouse bus, and power for those devices. it is an elegant connection, but you cant reuse your existing stuff

skeumorph

> An object or feature that imitates the design of a similar artifact made from another material:
the pottery box with a square lid is a skeuomorph of a twilled basketry container

> MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES

> 1.1 Computing An element of a graphical user interface that mimics a physical object:
note-taking apps offer skeuomorphs of yellow legal pads, squared paper, ring binders, etc.
when you first load up the app, you’ll be presented with a skeuomorph of a photo album
>>

You probably wouldn't have too hard a time with something like that.

I'd grab an external SCSI enclosure (definitely) from eBay and use it to alleviate your stresses, that's what I did with my Indigo2 when I got it.

I'd totally show it off, but there isn't much to do except browse /g/ on NetScape since there isn't a lot of IRIX 5.3 software out there and people in the know won't cough it up. ;_;

that app is on here! i tried it last night but it crashed with a 403 error. during work today i checked out the actual message, and it seems that cloudflare rejects clients that attempt to grab content with an ip address as the hostname.

presumably, that ancient app resolves the host, then attempts to grab the content with the ip address, and clouflare rejects it because it wants to be able to redirect your requests to different hosts for load balancing.

>>43194809
yeah, i agree with you. its mostly people who attach themselves to some idea, in this case "reject all allusions to a physical object, use 'flat design'", etc. and they go absolutely autistic seeking out all offending content, then blog about it.
i liked the reel to reel look on the podcasts, as well. i've never owned a reel to reel, but watching the smooth animations and getting little contextual clues about the position in the track through the size of each reel was nice. i could go on about it, but i won't

my nextstation is STILL loading the front page of /g/. this is completely miserable.

not a post yet. its been loading the page for over 30 minutes now, with no end in sight.
its not really the fault of the system though, i've heard it was quiet fast even compared to early 486's.
unfortunately, it has limited memory, and the braindead rendering system is causing it is sit here and swap.
i guess omniweb first reads the html, then uses some os library to translate it to some other intermediate format, then finally, uses another library to render it as RTF. the browser isjust using so giant hack the devs figured out to render html without actually writing code to render html.
this is the only browser that cloudflare will work with though.

frankly at this point, i think it would have been faster to post to 4chan through telnet.
