Old one near dead
Hey tech support I got a streaming issue for you to solve. When streaming when I switch my monitor input from DVI to HDMI to see my console on my monitor the stream sound/video both become really laggy and fucked and cannot be corrected without switching back to dvi to readd the camera to xsplit.
When using a console with component cables there is no issue but when using HDMI tons of issues.
Someone with knowledge on the workings of this witchcraft tell me how retarded I am. Also I made you a pretty paint picture showing the setup.
It's 300, genius. Not to mention the janitors wouldn't delete the other thread unless the last post was near 3 hours old. We really don't need a new thread right now.
I'm trying to get ye olde Microsoft LifeCam to work in Windows 8, though it's not compatible. I read that I should run the installation in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode, which sounds sensible, so I did that but I got an error message saying that a later version of LifeCam software is installed and to uninstall that before I can install this new deal in compatibility mode. So I delete the LifeCam folder in program files, and the one in program files(x86) and a search for "lifecam" gives no results anywhere, bar the installer. Sadly, the same error message is given every time I try, even if I delete and re-download the installer. I don't know what kind of cheeky kunt this error message is telling me porky pies and I don't know how to make it stop, is there some sorcery I can use or should I just buy a non-fossilised webcam that's meant to be used with win8?
Is the GTX 560 still a decent enough card? I checked out the recommended requirements for Titanfall and it said I could use that card. Ask cause I would like to do some mild gaming on a tight budget..
WHAT'S GOOD NYUGGUAH!?
WHAT'S REALLY GOOD!?
I need direct rendering turned on. I don't know how to do it. When I put in glxinfo it says it's off and says LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose to find out why. How do I turn it on? I'm using Linux Mint 17 64-bit.
Running Debian Testing and just got an SD card, plugged it in and as far as i can tell its not being detected.
Gparted doesn't detect it and ls /dev/sd* doesn't output anything different than when it isn't plugged in.
Do i need to install any modules/packages to get it working?
I remember it working with Windows.
Ok so its detected now after doingecho 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/rescanbut gparted is failing with read errors.
And when i try to mount /dev/sdd (the sd card) i getmount: /dev/sdd: can't read superblock
I bought the SD card for the RPI that i also just bought, i dont have any other PC that i can use the burn Debian onto the SD so am i fucked? Did i just waste ~85 dollars?
So I want to download a fishy looking file/program and look at what's in it. Is there something I can use to "quarantine" it while I look at what's in it?
I can link it if someone else wants to look at it and give me an opinion on it.
I cant, i get input/output error.
Alsosudo dd if=/dev/sdd bs=1024k count=10 | less
gives me:dd: error reading ‘/dev/sdd’: Input/output error

I unplugged my monitor (to dust) and now it doesn't turn on (receive a signal) until right at the end of boot. What gives.
nb. I'm not certain I re-plugged into the same hole.
I'm also not certain I plugged it into the same SLIed card.
I don't know what format it is, but my external drive is formatted in ntfs and i can access it just fine, so ive got the right packages if it is ntfs.
I tested the SD card in a camera, it works fine, so its just the SD port on my PC?
How can i replace that?
I wouldn't assume that it's the SD port until you've tested it with other SD cards...But, if it is, it would be fairly easy to replace...Just take your computer apart, remove it, and put a new one in the same way you took the old one out.
How do I write a python or shell script that never finishes running and uses as few system resources as possible?
I want a dummy process to run at the end of my ~/.xinitrc so that I can kill any of the other processes started in that script without killing X.
Is there any way to use the old SetPoint for the G700s? Not digging this new software at all. I mean the interface looks nice and it has some okay features, but none that I really need, it dropped some stuff I actually used, and the profile switching isn't nearly as reliable which kills it for me. Profile switching was rock solid on the old software and now 20% of the time I have to tab out and back in again to get it to recognize the fact that I switched.
In practice though everyone views their monitor from an angle though. On a TN monitor even if you're looking at it straight on you are seeing the top and the bottom at an angle so the picture will be inconsistent.
Not always noticeably so. For one thing the difference between the angles of different points on the screen depends on your distance from the monitor, so the effect depends on where you put your screen to some degree, but more importantly the effect is worse on some panels than others. Many TN panels are good enough that as long as you're viewing it straight on at a reasonable distance the effect is imperceptible. Of course, that isn't true for all of them.
Is the BenQ XL Series XL2411Z Monitor the same panel as the BenQ XL2420Z? If so, is it worth getting the XL2420Z because it has displayport, or does that even matter for 144hz gaymen monitors?
Or should i say fuck all that and get the Asus vg248qe?
>Inb4 muhh IPS
I have one.
In short my facebook that I taught was permantly deleted got hacked, added my all of my old friends friends (so just about everyone I know) and someone started to spam ads and tagged all of my friends.
I have already deleted the images and explained the situation on my wall, now before deleting my account again is there any more damage control I should do?
I created an IRC channel then I have my computer automatically fall asleep after some amount of time of not using it then wireless is cut off, I wake the computer up again, I reconnect to the channel I made, I lose OP. I'm on the installgentoo irc server and I'm using irssi if that means anything. Nobody of the #installgentoo channel is doing shit.
Is there a way/reason to wipe SSDs like HDDs if you're selling or getting rid of them? Would it be basically like HDD cleaning where it fills it with junk data to overwrite? Would that damage the health of the SSD?
The iPod is cheaper per GB, has more maximum space, is compatible with iPod docks, supports my entire library so far and is fashionable.
What functional advantage does the Sansa have?
Sansa has much more compatibility for different file types.
It's not gonna break if you throw it on the ground.
You can get your library on the sansa too you just need to drag drop onto the sansa software from itunes or whateverthefuckyouuse.
You can have much more space than 64/128 GB SD just put a little more money.
So they have exactly the same color reproduction? I hear a lot of people rave about how the XL2420Z has really good color reproduction for a TN panel. But wouldn't the fact that they both use the same panel mean that the color reproduction would be the same?
Virtual box keeps giving me this error, or another one that references a ton of mem locations. I'v done many reinstall, and disabled a ton of other software; What do?
My server has trouble streaming media to other devices in my house while torrents are downloading at more than like 1 Mbps, but I don't understand why.
When the server streams to other devices it's uploading right? Whatever's download shouldn't affect it unless the interface is clogged right? But I think my network card and router are rated for way more than a couple of Mbps.
Every single FPSe apk for android I download has a license check in the permissions. Almost all of the sources I get them from say there's a license along with the apk but FPSe always has the "license check failed" message. is there a way to get past the license check?
I'm making an Android app that uses GPS coordinates while driving on the freeway, what's the best way to recognize on which freeway the user is driving?
Do I need to make an entire database containing the longitudes and latitudes of every freeway?
I'm not sure if that's a viable option since most freeways here don't go in straight lines.
Open command prompt
Enter "list disk"
Enter "select disk N", where N is the number corresponding to your flash drive that shows up in "list disk". MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT ONE.
Exit the command line and go try to access the flash drive. It will ask you to format it. Do that.
It should now show up in unetbootin. This will naturally erase everything off the drive, but I'm sure you were already ready for that. No guarantees this will work, but good luck!
I made an image, (pic related) and it was around 900 bytes. Then I cropped out some transparency around the edges, and the filesize went up. Why did that happen? Wouldn't it go down?
Could be the encoder used. Many encoders don't bother spending time finding the "best" compression and instead just go for "good enough". Here's a version of the same file, but run through a PNG optimizer.
>Could be the encoder used.
That could be it. The first time I saved it, a message box came up with a bunch of options, and the second time, I saved over it, and that message box didn't pop up.
If you want a "serious" file server, get FreeNAS and set up multiple drives in a RAID array. However, if you just want a hard drive you can access from the internet, it would be better if you just chose a server oriented linux distro like Ubuntu Server or Debian. Xubuntu is for desktop/laptop use.
Or just use whatever you want. It's not like anyone will know.
I have VirtualBox-4.3.14-95030-Win.exe
I'm willing to give other visualization systems a try
No problem. I remember having trouble with unetbootin with a flash drive on windows and I had to do a bunch of stupid stuff with diskpart before it would work, but I might have left something out. I just google'd around and it looks like you might have to do something likeselect disk N
select partition 1
Torrents I'm trying to download keep (for want of a better term) dying on me: Deluge acquires seeds/peers and trackers just fine, and I get a good download speed - for about a second, before that speed sinks like a rock and eventually stops altogether. It's not being blocked by Windows Firewall or Comodo. Pic related is it's network settings pane.
Anyone mind taking a crack at why it's being so uncooperative?
Try setting your inbound and outbound encryption settings to "forced" if that's an option. It's possible your ISP is sniffing traffic and fucking with it, and encryption _might_ solve that (as their packet sniffers hopefully won't be able to identify the traffic as bittorrent).
See here for an example of an ISP doing something like this:
I just bought one of these (Logitech g700s). I noticed some scroll wheel wobble/rattle when I move/shake the mouse (both in free scroll and locked/click position). Can any g700/g700s owners confirm whether this is normal, or should I seek replacement? Thanks!
Seems to have helped somewhat - the download speed is now oscillating between "nothing" and <75 KiB/S - which, given that the maximum download speed Deluge has displayed (for this particular torrent) was ~650 KiB/S, is a good deal lower than I reckon it should be.

If you've got the money, it doesn't seem bad.
My fans are too loud on Linux, even when on idle.
I already addedpcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1like I read somewhere to do, but it didn't help.

Hopefully someone can give me a hand, I am trying to decrease the size of my windows 8 partition in return to increase my partition of linux and I am trying to use Gparted to do so but when I try booting into it it gives me a redundant error of "modprobe: can't load module ext4 ext4 ntfs: invalid arguement".
I installed Atlas-Lapack (a linear algebra library) from the AUR for some quantum chemistry calculations. Stupid Question: after building and installing what is the 'install directory'. I know if I were to build it myself from the sources it would be something like /opt/ATLAS but where does arch put it if Im using makepkg -i ?
i have a shitty old computer that i want to network attach storage with
i'd also like the option to fuck around with the idea of web servers, etc
should i just do ubuntu server? debian server maybe?
not sure about windows 8 partitions but if it's ntfs don't fuck with it from linux, windows hates that shit and it'll shit itself and demand an installation disk
use device manager in windows, not sure if you're able to resize the currently booted partition on windows but give it a go
then get yourself a live disk to resize your linux from (definitely can't resize current booted on linux), linux is generally cool about resizing but you're probably going to have to restore grub and shit from the live disk
also do a bit of googling with the phrases "dual boot partition resize" maybe there's a lifehacker, howtogeek or if you're lucky stackoverflow out there
mint or ubuntu, i'd recommend mint
move on to debian or manjaro after a while
then do gentoo or proper arch
also remember to dual boot at the start, don't want to cut yourself out completely, probably going to have to microsoft office a couple of things for work or college
1. How do I rev up more traffic and clicks on my blog?
2. I know there was a certain IRC that users would go to 'trade clicks', I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find that? (You didn't hear this from me :3)
also mess around with the bsds and red hats but i haven't done that myself so whatever, i haven't done proper arch or gentoo either but it seems like a good progression so again whatever
/g/, i have a noob question about paquet managers:
>as a noob
i only used apt-get and pacman a little so far
i often read that pacman is known to be better than others
i often read that apt-get is not so good
i don't much much of difference between them
anyone mind to explain the main differences, pros and cons, without getting into too much technical details? also, any link related will be fine also
is there a command i can use in arch to see the total space used by a program and its dependancies?
its getting tight on my ssd and i want to weigh up things to remove (like other DEs for example)
both are just package managers. I use apt myselfe, but there is no realy big difference between them, if you just want to fo general computing tasks.
-just have stuff people want to read on it could be good too
i would start with xubuntu.
mint and ubuntu have much bload, so better do not use them.
after a while you should probably want to try other distros too, like >>43133599 sayed.
then try them out and stick with the one, you like the most.
and now my question:
would it be possible to run a chromium core (html5/css3/js interpreter) as a wm? so that i could use a website as a wm? So that i would have something like just a normal desktop, that i can customize through html and run programs from. Would that be possible, or is there already such a thing?
How is it possible for a regular website that is not on my machine, but somewhere in the internets to resolve to 127.0.0.1? It happens both when I ping it and when I use ip-adress.com and similar detector sites.
Could it be a kind of DDoS protection? I never heard of such stuff though.
Question: should I flash a recovery 4.3 stock for my samshit at&t i747, or should I go right for the 4.4 by flashing the OTA?

>phone is stock, never used any custom roms at all
>try to clean up phone to see if if update would work
>somehow the gallery, samsung hub, and google + apps broke
>gallery and samsung hub are probably beyond saving
I just need to know if updating will fix my woes, or if I should recover then update.
I really need the gallery for lockscreen wallpaper.
help with ImageSearch.
searches a region of the screen for an image.
I am learning autohotkey and I don't understand how to make it work.
I have read the help and searched online but I still have not figured it out.
I know in c,c++,c#,objective c there is a use for it but I am just staring.
anyone got a good explanation for it to make it work in autohotkey?
what I am trying to do is when the image I tell it to search is on screen to close the program, click a button, etc. as long as it finds the image.
Is it bad for me to leave my desktop PC always on?
I figured I would start turning off my monitor over night and leaving my PC on so I can seed more, but I realized that it might be bad to always leave it on.
Does anyone have any reliable sources on a topic like this?
Currently have an LGA1155 P67 board with a 2700k. The board doesnt see all 4 sticks of 4GB RAM, so I only have 8GB/16GB usable for some reason in windows. However, speccy sees all 16GB which is odd. Would it be worth upgrading from this setup to haswell or broadwell and just getting a new motherboard/CPU?
Every time I go on this site on my computer it displays like pic attached
However, it loads normally on my phone, tablet and friends computer. I have cleared history AND cleared DNS cache and still having this problem. Wtf is going on?
are CPU water coolers cooler/quieter than air coolers in the same price range?
Bitch has too much makeup on
WC and HSF are equal in performance, WC take up less space than air coolers in a way, and they're more expensive. A HSF is probably a better choice in most cases
Bump for this. Heres what speccy is showing for RAM. 16GB installed, 8GB usable for some reason.
Spec Spec only sees 8GB. The virtual is not the same as physical. Did you try reseating all 4 sticks in different slots?
I was referring to shitty Corsair and what not watercoolers, but you are 100$ correct
Yes I have tried all the 4 sticks in different configurations. BIOS/Windows only shows 8GB installed. The weird thing is, no matter which sticks ive got installed or the slots they are in it will always show 8GB, never 12 or 16.
do those tiny ITX cases with full size PSUs/GPUs get really hot?
there's other stuff on there too, and i figure that moving all the rest to another partition would probably take a similar amount of time.
i guess it would already be awesome if i could have some sort of progress bar for rm, but i don't think there is an option for that.
Download Win7 .iso
Use program like Unetbootin or Rufus or wintoflash to install the iso to the USB
Boot from USB
I however won't be giving instruction on how to pirate/activate it. Buy a key you poorfag
Guys I want to get into some low level programming and network security.
What are some good recommended books? I looked in the /g/'s wiki and seen a few but I wanted to make sure there wasn't some I already missed.
The guy from before in his own thread has come here to ask:
Is this as good as it can be under 1300$.
The same parts are more expensive in my country (1600$) but 1290$ on pc part picker
What do I need to do to make this work? You can probably see what I'm going for here.
while [ $COUNT -lt 5 ]; do
echo less than 5
while [ $COUNT -eq 5 ]; do
echo at 5
I don't use more than 200 gb anyway.
Music? mostly spotify
Games? highly unlikely to be a problem in the near future, but If I use more than 200GB I'll get an HDD, but that's in like 2 years.
I might get an 500gb ssd.
>highly unlikely to be a problem in the near future
Top kek. With the next gen systems using bluray devs are caring less and less about making the PC versions good sizes. 50GB installs are normal on consoles now and will be on PC for a lot more games
It's personally not going to be a problem in the near future.
Already have a ps3 with 30 games.
And I only plan to play already released mostly old strategy games and rpgs.
There are some games coming that I'll get.
But I usually buy new games 1.5 years after release unless I want them really bad, which there are none.

When I used to commute to work I did it all the time. No one cares. You could look at porn and no one would probably notice.
On my long commutes I browsed 4chan, listened to radio streams, listened to podcasts, and read programming blogs. I also signed up for a bunch of daily news digest things that were emailed to me in the morning.
How do I get some privacy for my browsing?
Which addons to download? Browsers?
How do I download files as anonymously as possible? Not talking just torrents but everything.
Which crypt program should I use for maximum privacy?

thanks a lot anon greatly appreciated.
I'm gonna start installing some tiny distro on the blank server to get my very first fileserver up and running :3
I downloaded DAZ and the only files in the folder are keys, readme, checksum thing but no .exe. Is that because my windows is activated or what? The torrent files had the .exe but I dont see it in the folder
I thought you installed windows via usb/disc, then when you are on the trial version you use the DAZ EXE and it makes it good to go from a trial.
I have MSE but it never said anything about removing it. Hmm. Should I download it to a USB instead of my HDD or something?
I am the guy with the unetbootin issue from earlier. I cleaned the drive in diskpart, formatted it and made the partition active, but the drive doesn't show up when I plug it into the computer at all now, not just in unetbootin. What have I done wrong?
