Please tell me that demo has music.

No surprise there. That's exceptionally pretty

I've always liked ZX Spectrum stuff, due to the color design required to keep attribute clash issues to a minimum.

also, that voxel landscape this one does is technically impressive as fuck
take off your glasses if you have them for maximum effect though

>>42905436
oh shit, that's nice
>>
I was on a huge demo kick a while back.

I remember hearing people say that computer salesmen would leave this running on a machine to attract customers, haha.

also, C64 port

>>
>>42905595
I remember seing this in a computer store
It wasn't Second Reality, it was another demo with essentially a bunch of spheres creating different shapes
one of the shapes was a dude with a huge boner
that's why I remember
no homo

Doing anything at all on a Vic is an achievement, really.

This demo is legendary.
>>
This one is my all time favorite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfk5Mqy3gpA

It's not "legendary" per se, but it sure as hell got me hooked
I was almost ready to get my ass in gear and go to Assembly and then they stopped organizing it ;_;
I also started trying to make my first demo but soon realized I'd need a group - couldn't do everything alone
>>
>>42905859
>I was almost ready to get my ass in gear and go to Assembly and then they stopped organizing it ;_;
What do you mean? Assembly is still happening every year.
>>
>>42905915
*brainfart
I meant Breakpoint
It was the party I really wanted to go to (looked awesome, not too far from home...)
>>
>>42905859
man, I forgot how cool this demo was, haven't seen it in a while

the impressive part is how it's 64kB

dumb shit: most 64k demos throw my virus scanner into a tizzy because it's afraid of unknown packing and hand-written assembly
>>
My favorite recent demo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBsb-Sj3DD8

If Watership Down ever gets another animated adaptation, I'd want El-ahrairah's stories done in this style.
>>
>>42906004
Revision is the new Breakpoint. It's organized by the same people at Easter just like Breakpoint.
>>
>>42906035
lol
same here

Here's another one I love
I know it's overhyped but damn - 4k...

>>
Anyone have the demo of an anime intro or something that's all done on a ti84? It's a smooth animation and it's all done in assembly. The movie is pure black/white art style, no shading just silhouettes.
>>
>>42906195
This?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq5T9dE58E4
>>
>>42906195
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pAeWf3NPNU

Knew what you were talking about but didn't know it was on a calculator.

Bad Apple, not an anime. Just an animation to go along with a song. The song itself is an arrange of a Touhou song. The song itself has a pretty cancerous reputation around it mainly due to it being not only popular with many non-fans or of secondaries (or worse, tertiaries) which are 'fans' who don't actually care about the original content (in this case the games, original novels and original manga, there are many fanmade (or 'doujin') content of all types of varieties, they only tend to care about that shit.
>>
>>42906301
Yes thank you!
>>
>>42905859
>That sicc acid-neurofunk drop.
CHILLS
This is 'legendary' per se. How have I never heard of this?
>>
>>42906336
I did not know that, thanks. Also didn't know about bad apple until I saw it on a calculator. I just love that it's done pretty smoothly.
>>
This robot haunts my dreams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2lZABu8hZc
>>
>>42906301
gah, it's like whoever ported the song didn't know how vibrato worked (which would mask the fact that the notes aren't in tune)
>>
>>42906336
To be honest Bad Apple is kinda catchy. I don't think it's bad normalfags like it, as long as they don't call themselves Touhou fans after listening to it.
>>
>>42906158
>>42906130
>tfw good at art, music, and coding.
>>
Can someone explain to me why some of these demos can be 64kb?
>>
>>42906412
but have

>>42906485
procedural generation (generate content on-the-fly, such as meshes, sound, and textures), hand written assembly (generally smaller than compiler output), lots of compression (because 64k is a pretty small target)

oh, and modern 64k demos have access to OpenGL/DirectX, which takes a bit of the burden of having to fit a renderer in your limited space away
>>
>>42906485
Why not?

What do you even mean? That they are 'small'? You can squeeze a lot of information into 64kb.
>>
>>42906485
extreme hackiness and optimization
>>
>>42906519

And in the same vein but shitloads more impressive.

C64 SCENE IS BEST SCENE

>>
>>42906100
That demo is great, but i am rather dissapointed in the recent trend of raymarching everything in pixel shader.
I know its easy to do in 4k, but all of them just seem the same... doing a fractal that responds to music.
>>
>>42906485
They use gigabytes of runtimes already on windows.

I'm doing GB/NES assembly work right now.

Any idea on how these were made?

I know I can scroll the screen every scanline, but those tall vertical gradients are confusing me.

Offence did most of the work on that, it's a nice demo but it doesn't come close to the coderporn in edge of disgrace. It's pretty much just an artwork demo.

People pushing the limits of old hardware and using tricks to make stuff appear 3D (like with Doom etc.)?
