Transfer your old VHS tapes to dvd or blu-ray
>>61826385
>no DVHS
>>61828536
No, it's just a player. Sort of like those VHS/DVD combos, but with BD instead.

nothing to hide, nothing to fear. i guess that's an issue for you pedo weebs, though.
>>61826707
Thats.... not the point of privacy.
>>61826707
Locks on your doors, blinds on your windows hide what you do from others though. Do you have something to hide?
>But niggers stealing my stuff
Yes, and that's why security and privacy are important, because no one should want digital niggers taking and seeing their stuff
Why does hexadecimal exist but not a numeral system utilizing all 26 letters?
Why did someone go, "yea lets just stop at F" ?
>>61826051
Because people smart enough to invent hexadecimal know to avoid /g/.
>>61826051
There is a numeral system utilizing all 26 letters
>>61826051
>a numeral system utilizing all 26 letters?
I don't think you understand the point of hexidecimal.
>Why did someone go, "yea lets just stop at F" ?
Hex can represent 16 numbers using only one digit. Zero through nine give you 10 numbers. You need symbols to represent the last 6 numbers. Someone decided to use A through F.
What's my priority to upgrade, CPU?
>>61825950

>>61825950
I'm using a 390 still. I like it a lot . Maybe cpu if you want more power

Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.
*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread ***
Before asking for help, please check our list of resources.
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

good to see they finally got some lighting, and even a rudmentary material system going on now
these guys are progressing, slow as fuck but their tech is promising in some ways.
we had voxel games before, I wonder how far they can take this, maybe if they can render scenes with a huge ammount of detail on some engine and then convert them to their "atoms"
When reselling a windows pc, is the native wipe and reinstall of the OS sufficiently secure enough? Or do I need to use some sort of third party software?
Doing this for a family member. Loonix and macOS user here so I'm clueless.
>>61825757
DBAN is free and it works.
secure enough in what way? you might want to check and delete any system restore points as well
if you're paranoid you would want to use DBAN to 0-pass it or whatever, this can take a couple hours though
Use DBAN. Run the DoD short and you should be good to go.
what's better dvi or hdmi?
>>61825748
HDMI, though I prefer DisplayPort to both.
The latest HDMI has more bandwidth than even DVI-D, and it's more-compact connector allows more ports per device. And that's even before you consider mini-HDMI or whatever they call it.
Displayport
>>61825748
HDMI is better than DVI, but DisplayPort beats the shit out of both of them

linux and programing are far worse their not even tech GTFO.
If you want help:
>Assemble your parts list

>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC
CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - Only for 144hz
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming
GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM
General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.
With the recent AGESA updates and their impact on gpu passthrough, I'm finally interested in getting on the platform. I'd appreciate any measure of help.
I'm stuck between the 1600x and the 1700. Either way I'm probably going to be dedicating 4c/8t to my slave vm leaving only 2c for the host. I shouldn't run into any problems with cutting a 1600x 2c:4c for host:slave right? Would the 1700 be better performance wise for the host? I see that the single core scores for the 1600x are better than the 1700 by ~20% on average.
Another question is about RAM, I am aware of ryzens tendancy to prefer samsung b and check QVL for the board, but is it true that 3.2ghz ram will not perform in a 4x8gb config? If I am required to use 2x8 for that speed can I split the ram unevenly between host and client? 6gb:10gb for host:slave?
If I open a VM I expect to use it thoroughly or just close the thing and I know linux isn't nearly as performance hungry as windows so, assuming both ram and cores can be split unevenly would it be fine running a host with 2cores and 6gb ram AND a slave with 4cores and 10gb ram?
I used profile 2 on my ram to get it to 3200mhz and now my cinebench scores are 200 points worse. I'm retarded and I don't understand why.
>>61825633
I'm really interested in pass through but there are still issues
1. No cpu will allow 7700k perf levels directly. Low CPU 7700k is a no go for a multi vm machine
2. There is no SLI pass through
