Convince me that Arch Linux is a timesink Distro.
>it breaks your system every time you update
You update too much, and probably you are using proprietary bullshit drivers for your graphics card.
If it's necessary, update. Don't update because B133D1NG 3DG3Z0RZ!!1!!111!

It's pretty easy for me.

is there any other reason that people use arch though?

AUR, you get to choose what you want, not source-based like Gentoo is, quicker to install and use than Gentoo. That's my personal opinion, though.
>>
>>54894462
>you get to choose what you want
you can choose what you want on pretty much any distro though. I know Debian lets you install a barebones system with no DE, no software, pretty much no nothing except the coreutils and such, and I know plenty of other major distros give you the option.
>AUR
A lot of distros have very big repos these days. and if what you want isnt in them no distro stops you from compiling it yourself.

look in the business class laptops.
>>
Decent for me is "can use Linux" (I'm stingy with CPU/RAM/storage) and 6+ hours of battery life. There's so much of that being made these days for dirt cheap.
>>
I know that feel.

16:9 is cancer on a laptop, and 99% of laptops today are 16:9.

You literally can't buy a 16:10 laptop with a good keyboard (like old IBM-made thinkpads), a trackpad with physical buttons, IPS matte screen, and normal BIOS compatibility, no forced EFI or funky shit like Macbooks or Chromebook Pixel.

My college gives us a laptop included in our tuition. Give me some pros and cons on these boys. Which do I go with? I'm an EE major if that has any impact on what I should choose.

Decline and ask for reimbursement.

Then buy your own. There's a 99.99% chance they will charge MSRP, which will be be anywhere from 20-50% more expensive than what you get similarly by yourself.
>>
Is this why american higher education is so overpriced?
They are surely charging this at a huge markup and got it dirt cheap by buying in bulk

Anybody using Antergos?

I tried to install it a few months back, but the installer was absolutely broken and no matter what I did it kept throwing errors mid-install, so I gave up trying. I just fired the installer up in a VM and it seems okay now, so I'm tempted to give it one last chance.

So, /g/. I been using linux for quite a while now, but mainly Terminal only for work related stuff.

In the next day, i'll upgrade my home desktop PC changing from a HDD to a SSD and, well, i plan to install linux for a change this time.

Coming from debian. What options on distros do i have for a desktop pc? I want something not so bloated so i can install shit individualy, and try and match.

I was thinking lubuntu.

No, ill not install gentoo

>>
>>54894056
Lubuntu is a good choice. Even more minimal would be Ubuntu minimal or just straight up Debian testing. Lubuntu works out of the box, if that's important to you.
>>
>>54894056
Yes, ubuntu is good. Just remember to install gstreamer/pulseaudio
>>
Well I hate Ubuntu. Everyone does secretly, even the Ubuntu Developers/Users. At least thats my point of view.

I rly like Debian, but recently I switched to Fedora. Both working fine for me.

Hi /g/,

Last time I made a C++/Qt thread it went well. So I've decided to make another one as most threads here are shit. Discuss your C++/Qt development, as well as KDE related subjects here.

Since last time, I've gotten the basics of C++ down, but the interaction between kdevelop and qt designer has been troublesome. Anybody know a decent tutorial on it? KDE's wiki is a mess on this part.

It's not a competition, shithead. OpenBSD is not a product being sold.

And even if it was, most Linux distros today include (depend on?) software authored by the OpenBSD project.

Where do you guys register your domains? Namecheap, Hover or Gandi? I'm torn between the three.

Namecheap:
>few tlds
>few features (only forwarding)
>good privacy protect

Gandi
>many tlds
>many features (custom parking domain, email, forwarders, saving old zones)
>bad privacy protect

Hover
>many tlds
>no features
>good privacy protect

All have two step verification.
