Easier to have all the distributions use the same commands to start/stop services.

I can write simple init "scripts" now myself.

It offers small utilities that I can use instead of full and complicated alternatives (like time syncing; don't have to use ntpd).
>>
I compiled and installed systemd manually and spent 2 hours troubleshooting why my headless server would no longer let me keep my screen sessions open after logging out, defeating the whole purpose of GNU screen.

Apparently, the default behavior is to kill all user processes and daemons upon logout unless you add a compiler flag when building.
How the fuck was I supposed to know that?

So I got myself all excited for the A4-SFX then it turned out to cost nearly £200 which is too much, especially considering I'd also have to replace my current ATX power supply.
Are there any other good ITX cases with a similar form factor (tower, fits a GPU) that are cheaper? I like the look of the Hadron Air but I've read some poor reviews for it and I'm having second thoughts.

You could say it's a start.

Too bad that start came about a decade too fucking late.

Setting up a Linux machine with the most basic setup like audio-interface, a midi device like a keyboard, getting the drivers to work for in and output with LOW latency AND having a working digital audio workstation has either always been a massive pain in the ass and/or only partially working or not working at all.

It's like the Linux community always cared more about compiling code instead of being creative with music and graphics.

I'm just massively disappointed.

I'm just going to uninformedly speculate that it's used in situations where people are already using a software suite from Oracle. If you're using an Oracle stack, it only makes sense to use the Oracle DB.

How valuable is the Comptia A+ certificate when it comes to getting a job?

Do companies actually give a shit about stuff like that?

Anybody have experience getting a job with similar certifications?
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>54980828
I once heard an HR/interviewer here on /g/ say that a CompTIA A+ was basically the equivalent of having 6 months worth of experience. And after that, it basically means nothing.

Might be a good idea if you're trying to get your foot in the door and have nothing to show for it yet.
>>
Just get an entry level job in IT and work at it for a year. That counts as an A+.
>>
should i get A+ first or just get Security Plus?

Save a tiny bit of extra money and get the RX 480 when it comes out, it'll be far better than that.

you'd be better off waiting for AMD 480 and then making a decision.

If nothing else prices will go down since new cards are coming out.

>Technology analyst Richard Windsor says that a highly confidential internal project is underway to rewrite the ART runtime, removing any lingering dependencies from the freely downloadable open source AOSP (Android Open Source Project) code base.

Don't tell me you didn't see this coming from a million miles away (what with pretty much every OEM who ships Android doing this since the beginning of time).

If you needed any more proof that corporations only hype up and """""""support""""" Open Sores™ for purely financial reasons, this is it. And don't even talk about Free Software, because although its acolytes won't admit it, that movement has never been more apparently dead and defeated. We're back to the 90s, except with megacorps having way better PR.

hey /g/, never posted here before but thought you could help.

I'm fed up with computer mice with really wimpy buttons and I'd like to get something that has better feedback when i click. I do a lot of cad/photoshop work. Any advice?

I've heard that some of the gaming mice are decent, but i really don't need a big plastic toy covered in a ton of buttons and lights. just something durable with deep buttons.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated. Thanks

get a G400, its comfy for palm grip users, and the only 'gaymur' shit in it is the dpi switch and the weights for it. for a claw grip, I'd say maybe a Roccat Lua and turn off the leds, or get a Logitech MX Master.

If I forget to free() my memory, is that part of the RAM wasted forever or is it eventually garbage collected anyway even if C doesn't have such a feature?

Only when you exit your application.
>>
>>54980631
It release the memory when you close your program
>>
>>54980631
The RAM is allocated forever. The computer can't spare the clock cycles to keep track of it. The only solution is to buy more RAM. This is why modern languages have global garbage collection. Call free() or brick your computer

So my mac is connected to a wi-fi that has internet, but my galaxy s5 won't have internet whilst connected to the wi-fi (due to unathorized mac address)

So how can I share my laptop's internet with my phone?
I tried "sharing" settings in OS X, then I had only bluetooth or thunderbolt option, well I turned on bluetooth on my phone, it said paired with my laptop but no internet still on the phone...

what do?
