this isn't even damage control anymore.
Sup /g/, I'm trying to use cut to work with a text file, mostly because I'm retarded and just do not grasp regular expressions, at all. What I'm trying to do is output characters 10 to 20, of the first line only. I'm using...
cut somefile.txt -c 10-20
...and that is giving me characters 10-20 from every line.
What should I be doing differently here?
>>55322752
head -1 somefile.txt | cut -c 10-20
A little extra detail, though probably not relevant, I'm going to be cutting several sections of character X-Y, but only every from the first line of the file, and then echoing them to a different file later, so I'm really using something more like....
var1=$(cut somefile.txt -c 10-20)
var2=$(cut somefile.txt -c 35-40)
var3=$(cut somefile.txt -c 50-70)
var4=$(cut somefile.txt -c 75-80)
echo $var1
echo $var2
echo $var3
echo $var4
etc....
>>55322752
Or you could just tell me what regex you're tryng to create and I can help you

848C might as well be a charge number/some kind of encoded date, I havent searched for bigger pictures to verify though

Are you a cryptoanarchist yet /g/?
No, I'm not 15 anymore. I became an adult a long time ago.
>>55322579
Does this guy look like he's 15? Anarchism is serious business.
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Anarchism, is in fact, Crypto/Anarchism, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Crypto plus Anarchism. Anarchism is not an political system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Crypto system made useful by the Crypto core values, shill utilities and vital beliefs comprising a full political party as defined by Marx.
Many democracy users follow a modified variety of the Crypto system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the variety of Crypto which is widely used today is often called Anarchism, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Crypto system, developed by the Crypto Project.
There really is a Anarchism, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Anarchism is the kernel: the social pracitve that allocates the societys's resources to the other people that you know. This kernel is an essential part of an political system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete political system. Anarchism is normally used in combination with the Crypto political system: the whole system is basically Crypto with Anarchism added, or Crypto/Anarchism. All the so-called Anarchism nations are really nations of Crypto/Anarchism!
Hey /g/
So do you guys have any good suggestions for books about graphics APIs and how to properly do computer graphics? I've always wanted to make my own game engine.
>>55322460
Watch OpenGL tutorials on youtube anon.
Your best bet is C++, but Graphics can be done in Java. A game engine is far more than a renderer and graphics pipeline tho.
That great big game development book that everyone recommends doesn't go into enough depth.
>>55322583
I'm planning to start simple. Maybe 2D. At the most a doom engine clone.

any language which requires you to think outside of the box
Python and OCaml.
Both top tier languages of a white man.
Literally any language.
Hey, starting school in January for network security. Was wondering if there were any books to read or mini classes i can do on my own before school starts. I am kinda clueless in the subject atm, so any help is much appreciated.
Install Gentoo. Then probably fail because the course is based on Windows.

I already installed gentoo on my pooping tablet, thats enough for me.
Why did it take so long to release a worse, more expensive 970 with no drivers?
>>55322278
They had to sell off their stock in power companies first.
It's actually cheaper. Probably a good card if you're poor.
From the point of view of an user executed program, how do you know that the system you are being executed in is legit? This question came to my mind when i read that fingerprint reader of android phones or the android pay system requires selinux in enforced or root not activated, or not having a custom recovery, in order to be sure that it is used in a secure enviroment... But how does the program know if that one selinux that says is in enforced is in fact a true legit selinux in enforced and not a fake selinux created to fool the program into thinking it is a safe enviroment?
I mean, and overall thinking, is there a way to check if all the (linux or not) system you are into is really the system it says it is?
From a superuser point of view you can always build from sources and check files but from an user executed program, what can you do?
Because you know, you can always overwrite the SELinux system into a modified one that does the exactly same job except for specific things (for example, in order to see private info you wouldnt be able to see)
no one? ;(
The developer could publish signed binaries.
Not really. OS can pretty much tell whatever it wants to programs running on it.

Do you think Amada has a thing for Indian guys?
As a /g/ent, who uses a T520 with Fedora, a Oneplus One with Cyanogenmod, and owns the ifixit toolkit, I didn't know how I'd react to getting a secondhand iPhone 5s the other day. Here's a blogpost about my experience.
<blog>
Good things about the phone:
>build quality's good. It feels sturdy and premium.
>The cameras, although lower in megapixel than the OPO, look real good.
>For its low resolution screen, it doesn't look bad.
>Standby time is very good
>iTunes runs and works better than I was lead to believe, especially in a VM.
>I really enjoy the predictive text. It changes when I type, making things easy.
>The animations are a nice touch. They make everything feel like it was meant to be there.
>imessage is useful, and makes it easy to text people with iPhones.
Some bad things
>It's really slippery. I usually pinch it to get it out of my pocket.
>It's really small for me. I have large hands and am accustomed to using a 5.5" phone.
>I'm not a fan of the lightning connector it uses, I'd much prefer something with an open standard.
>It has two speaker grills, but only one is a speaker.
>Its 3.5 mm port is on the bottom, but that's purely preferential.
>I can't downgrade iOS versions unless Apple lets me.
>I can't backup individual apps.
>I've decided to stay on iOS 8.4 so I can figure out how to jailbreak.
>Has settings for Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and Vimeo, but I have none of those services installed.
>Can't set default apps.
>Can't hide pictures.
>Not open source software
>Can't have other app repositories without voiding warranty.
I enjoy the thing for day-to-day tasks, but I'll use my OPO when I have to do anything real.
</blog>

>>55322130
The other one's the microphone right?
>Its 3.5 mm port is on the bottom, but that's purely preferential.
Android phones with headphone ports on the top drive me nuts. When I pull it out of my pocket the phone's always upside down. Apple actually though this one through.
p.s. jailbreaking really isn't worth it anymore. iOS has implemented most everything people used to jailbreak for (apart from pirated apps), and you can now side-load apps on iOS so long as you have a Mac and Xcode.
IT'S NOT FAIR
