Just buy what you need in the first place faggot.
>>55359321
yeah, because batteries never decay.
>>55359196
>not made by fucking dell or apple
Enjoy your chink shit
Which version /g/?
>>55359125
Give me one good reason to even consider the Gigabyte version, given its inferior power circuitry, single 8-pin and smaller, noisier fans.
Both are awful and you should get neither.
Actually, I don't need any more competition for the good ones.
Definitely get one of these.
>>55359125
Neither are the RX480 so none
Why is /g/ so fucking stupid these days

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

I'm looking for an overly user friendly distro. I'm moving abroad and to keep in touch with my grandma I am going to leave her my old thinkpad.
So anything a granny might understand?
So, will this cutie blow 480 out of the water? GTX 980 performance for what, 250 bucks?
>So, will this cutie blow 480 out of the water?
Probably not. It's only 15% better by Nvidia's own tests. Remember how two RX 480s 'beat a GTX 1080'? Those are the only kinds of tests that are used here, no exceptions.
>GTX 980 performance for what, 250 bucks?
That would be amazing, but if the 960 and 760 are any indication it'll be more expensive than AMD's comparable offerings.
>>55358999
It'll be more expensive than a 970.
>>55358999
Async?
Maybe the 490/490x wont flop as much
>>55358976
Flop?
jet.com had the 8GB on discount for $199 and they sold out. This was yesterday.
>>55359021
The PCI-E issue is the new 3.5GB meme
>>55359045
Both aren't memes, they are reality
So why didn't AMD just make the RX 480 an 8-pin card?
>>55358938
because everything they sell is shit? only poorfags and mongoloids would go for an AMD build
>>55359248
Checks out. The only people I know that use AMD on purpose are cheapasses and misled idiots.
>>55359849
Im breddy rich and always used Intel CPU with AMD gpu.
http://venturebeat.com/2016/07/01/mozilla-releases-first-nightly-build-of-servo-its-next-generation-browser-engine/
Why is no one talking about this?
Do you really have to ask? Just see that first reply you got.
Posted from an iPhone/Android device no doubt.
I'm all for new, better browsers, but I have no confidence in mozzarella to not fuck this one up too
>>55358927
Searching for "slave" in servo's codebase returns 8 (eight!) results. Totally unacceptable for a modern progressive coding collaborative effort.
I'm currently looking to buy a GTX 1080. I've read that the asus strix version has a completely fanless mode while under light load; are there any other GTX 1080 versions that share this property?
>>55358893
You're doing a top notch job here, Rajesh!
I will make sure you'll get a 50 rupee monthly raise!
Fans turning off in idle has been common for a few years now in many cards. I know for sure that MSI at least does this as well since the 770 or earlier.
Im looking at the inno3d iChill
>install Windows 7 on a popular laptop from 2011
>barely any driver support, not even an ethernet driver, so I have to download them from another computer, put them on a USB thumbstick flash drive, and transfer them onto my laptop to install
>install Windows 10
>most drivers are installed out of the box except two, which have no Windows 10 drivers available
>install virtually any desktop Linux distro (I've tried Ubuntu, Mint, and Fedora)
>literally every single driver works out of the box, and in some cases even better than Windows
Explain.
>>55358882
delete system32
>>55358897
I'm using Linux now.
>>55358882
This is caused by the difference between free and proprietary software.
In the case of windows, the hardware manufacturer writes the drivers and either has to pay a fee for windows update distribution or has to take care of it themselves. They also have to target systems that are capable of generating profit.
In case of Linux, the community writes the drivers and does whatever the fuck they want with them. As granted by the four essential freedoms.
>freedom to run for any purpose
>freedom to study and modify
>freedom to distribute
>freedom to distribute modifications
And so your distro maker can distribute free drivers on the install media and have your updates all come from the same source.
I am looking to make some sense in the world of laptops, slowly going through reviews and making a list of worthy buys that are associated with good build quality
I am looking for some input in the 13"/14" world, whats popular, whats good, just some list to checkout
>Dell XPS 13
starts at ~1000€
very popular
extremely thin bezzel
great looking
>ASUS ZENBOOK UX303 / UX305
starts at ~700€
metal body
popular choice
ux305 is broadwell version
>DELL Inspiron 13
starts at ~700€
flippable, glossy display
>Thinkpad 13
starts at ~600€
thinkpad quality
>Samsung Notebook 9
starts at ~1100€
extremely thin and light
>Thinkpad E450 / E460
starts at ~400€
close to thinkpad quality
Any other line of notebooks I should check out? looking for smaller than 15" without numpad keyboard. But dont exactly need to be in expensive ultrabook bracket.
No such thing as thinkpad quality since thinkpad T430
>>55358848
they have certification that has to be passed
from shaking, to dust, to stress..
for example thinkpad 13 has this
but E450/E460 do not
but they both have classic thinkpad easily changed hdd, adding ram and stuff
not to mention good keyboard
I am not looking in to another thread where 40 years old neckbeards will be crying about old style thinkpads and recommend used 7 years old T400 or some shit like that
>>55358824
laptops that flip and fold are useless just get a tablet or a surface if you want that
kill yourself if you want a gaming laptop
retina MBP 15" if performance matters
thinkpad carbon x1 if youre worth quality
dell xps 13 if youre willing to settle
ASUS for people who are contrarian alt-right types who MUST have an alternative to feel good
chromebook if youre just spending money for something new
everything else fucking sucks my left nut unless youre really high on ultra thin cute stuff like HP Folio G1 and the new Macbook
>operating system requires yearly subscription
>operating system scans all the text on your screen to give you "recommendations" aka ads
>new hardware doesnt allow older operating systems
What else is next?
>drivers require subscription
>browsers inject ads every hour of browsing done
>>55358784
Install Gentoo
>>55358794
>must use 10 year old cpu you bought from aliexpress
This is the future Im talking about. New cpus doesnt allow gentoo to be installed, and vendors dont sell old cpus anymore because they are not "secure"
>>55358925
CPUs will never be like that.
Free market guarantees it
pentadactyl thread time.
long time vimperator user, returned to pentadactyl and found out it finally surpassed vimperator.
fun stuff in the first post.

When will eGPUs become more common? Will USB type-C basically make it mainstream?
I want to keep a good business-class notebook but when I bring it home, I'd like to hook it up to an eGPU for rendering jobs.
At this point it's just the razer core for a hefty price tag. You can have a DIY option with mini-pcie, but I'd say in the next year or so we will see more eGPUs.
And it's not just USB type-C that will make it mainstream, it's technically Thunderbolt 3 (though it is also USB C)
>>55358992
This. It will be at least a year before it becomes more mainstream. Once USB C and Thunderbolt 3 are ubiquitous, we'll see more eGPUs.
>>55358700
Business class is just a meme, retard. Just get a blade and cover the top with a skin or something.
What can I do with a laptop who has a shitty dual-core cpu amd e1-2100 apu? Youtube lags, chrome is slow, so internet browsing is slow like the shit!
Minecraft with simple texture pack, optifine and high priority of the task manager make 25-29 fps looking at the ground.
So what would you do if you were me and you can not buy something else? For what would you use it?
>>55358558
>shitposting
>looniks
>nintendo emulation
I forgot to say that cpu has 627 of benchmark
Install an ssd - should speed up things
>AMD trusted him to deliver on Polaris
in his defense amd probably made him cut corners and rushed him before his poo was even dry
could have been worse
>>55358396
