There are people on this board RIGHT NOW who believed Polaris 10 could overclock to 1600mhz.

Why is AMD so fun to hate? Usually people kind of like the underdog, especially when their opponent pretty obviously does some sketchy stuff (Intel, Nvidia). But even so, AMD is just so damn enjoyable to despise. I think it's mainly two things:
>1. The name "AMD" sounds vague and sort of cheap. "Intel" is a word, "Nvidia" is a word. But AMD is an acronym, and acronyms are awkward and suck. "Radeon" sounds alright, but a bit too much like radiator. They need a catchy new name.
>2. Their PR sucks. They keep overpromising and disappointing. People want to support AMD's new cards and CPUs, but every time they turn out flawed in some big way.
AMD needs to rebrand and fire anyone who currently handles their PR. There's a market for their good value tech, but AMD just feels like suck a hateable company.
Yeah that's great op but the truth is we fucking need amd. Intel and nvidia have no other competition. Imagine if android never made it past ginger bread and only apple had smartphones. We'd all be jewed out of our money for fuck all technical advancement
>Why is AMD so fun to hate?
I guess it's kind of like bullying the tiny kid in high school.
You don't hate amd you hate retards that so happen to love AMD
So after all the hype of polaris and pascal on desktops, any news on next gen mobile GPUs?
I mean the energy efficiency should be extremely helpful for them right?
Can we have something like GTX960 performance now with high end mobile GPUs at least?
>pic unrelated
A 980m is 25% more powerful than a 960
Idk, i've never used anything past amw iGPU in a lawptip, on account of I'm not a colossal faggot.
Who cares?
So I'm gonna learn to code over the summer but I'll also be doing light gaming because I'm gonna be on vacation and can't take my set up so the question is should I get an old MacBook or a thinkpad
>>55361928
you are truly an idiot if you think you should even consider an apple computer of any kind. They can't even do anything without turning into a frying pan.
Thinkpads, like any other fucking brand of computer, can be good or bad. do some fucking research before buying a computer. and don't ask /g/, people here are idiots, myself included.
>>55361928
Nice try. We won't fight over of how Macs are shit and ThinkPads are godsendings. Fuck you.
>>55361928

So, i bought my PC back in 2010, and it's been serving me well ever since, but recently the CPU has been getting some astronomically high temperatures.
On most games the processor load shoots up to a constant 100% and the temperature hits ~100ºC.
This is AFTER cleaning dust.
Did age finally catch up to it? Should i upgrade the whole thing, or is there something i can do to squeeze some extra life out of it? I tried to upgrade some parts before, but the shitty motherboard severely limits my options.
>>55361874
>my temperature
1) replace your thermal compound
2) make sure your fans are still working
3) place your PC into freezer
4) buy new PC
replace the thermal compound/paste/grease. it's quite easy look up on youtube
>>55361874
Replace thermal compound.
If your CPU is holding back your GPU (it might, it's only a dual core with HT) you can upgrade to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-Quad-Core-i7-880-3-06GHz-8MB-Socket-LGA1156-Processor-SLBPS-/302001488909?hash=item4650b1040d:g:jXAAAOSwuzRXdcGo
The price to performance ratio for that processor is actually really good, it'll be adequate for any mid-tier GPU (like yours) and you can keep your motherboard.
What are some must-have apps for android?
Games included.

Hey all,
I'm looking for the cheapest and dumbest monitor I can find that:
1) has good picture quality
2) has 4k resolution
3) is at least 45"-class
I DO NOT WANT A SMART TV. I already have an HTPC, and plan to upgrade to a kodi-based setup that can run 4k soon (my current setup is only good for 1080p).
I just want the biggest, dumbest screen with good picture quality I can find. Cheap is a plus, but it absolutely HAS to be a dumb TV. If anyone has any ideas, I'm excited to hear them. I've been looking for a while, but all the major brands in the US market are pushing smart tvs hard, and I don't want the fucking bloatware roku wanna-be shit that Samsung or Sony or whoever else pumps out. I want my monitor like my women; dumb, but very good at singular tasks.
Any suggestions, /g/?
Bump
I hate smart TV sets
>>55361841
there's no such thing as a non-smart 4k tv, unless you buy some no-name chink shit.
Yo. My friend gave me his GPU (vapor x hd 5770 1GB DDR5) which requires 500W PSU. Problem is that I have 400W PSU. Will it work if I install it? Any suggestions?
>>55361744
Bump???
Yea, go for it fâm.
>>55361744
>Will it work if I install it?
Yes
Now that we have the RX480, what kind of sexy power can we expect in the 490?
It's expected to be 16 gb of HBM2. Now you're playing with power. Why would you get a 1070 for 1440p gaming when you can wait just a little bit to get the Master Card?
Because it's going to run at 97 C, melt your PCIe slot, get bricked by official drivers, challenge me to a game of tic tac toe for the fate of the human race, fuck man I don't know it's AMD anything could happen.
>>55361737
>>55361737
Thank you amd. Its not gonna be that good probably, the 490X might be decent but will draw much more power than Nvidiots cards, hopefully DX12 will be widespread, otherwise the 490 is gonna lose outright compared to the 1070
>repair friend's computer
>get overwhelming urge to rice the fresh installation, install a proper adblocker and browser
>find perfect wallpaper, configure everything

Hey /g/uys,
My torrent download became all of a sudden slow af and isn't moving past 34.1%.
Look pic related. I have 10mb of down speed but why is it so slow?
>>55361618
Torrents work on a peer-to-peer basis; the speed at which you can download a torrent is directly related to the upload speed of the person "seeding" or hosting the files you are trying to download.
That, and, ideally you would want to have multiple seeders for a single file so that no one person is hosting the file and distributing bandwidth among several people.
>>55361734
this. and that means you should keep seeding after you are done downloading.
if not you are an asshole
