Currently a Ubuntu user who wants to switch to one of these. /g/ seems to prefer the latter, but can anyone explain why one is better?
Why don't you fucking try them and see for yourself?
There's literally no reason to use it it's really for neets who have too much time on their hands
Use Arch if you actually want to learn about the inner workings of Linux. Install Gentoo if you wanna use a meme Distro.
What is my pc case

Fingerprinting thread.

What is fingerprinting?
Fingerprinting is a new way of tracking you across websites, it's not theoretical, it's being done right now by companies like Google.
Why is it scary?
Because unlike cookie based tracking you can't defeat it just by disabling cookies.
There is currently NO FOOLPROOF DEFENCE against fingerprinting.
Attempts have been made but the technology is just too new.
Google releases limited hangout of how much they know about you:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/06/29/2038257/googles-my-activity-reveals-how-much-it-knows-about-you
>Oh, they're just remembering what YouTube videos I watched, nothing creepy about that, I already knew they were doing it!
>I guess all those people who fear tracking really are just conspiracy theorists!
ReCAPTCHA probably contains fingerprinting code:
https://archive.is/9K5gs
This means that the majority of 4chan users could be being fingerprinted, and Google might know about your shitposting habits.
To fix this you can get a pass (which allows you to be tracked by 4chan in a different way), or run 4chan with the no JavaScript CAPTCHA (use 4chan X to make 4chan without JS bearable).
Daily reminder to do all your Facebook / Youtube / LinkedIn / botnet shit in a completely separate browser to your Googling or buying shit.
It's currently the ONLY way to truly defend against fingerprint tracking.
Double points if you have each browser running in a different VM with a different OS.
Triple points if you have each browser's VM configured with a different VPN.
The Tor Browser Bundle is still susceptible to many fingerprinting attacks that can uncover your true OS and browser.
Spoofing your user-agent is counterproductive unless you use a different user-agent for every site, even if you rotate them every x HTTP requests.
>run 4chan with the no JavaScript CAPTCHA (use 4chan X to make 4chan without JS bearable).
I just get a black box if I disable the Google scripts, is it only certain 4chanX forks that do this?
>>55364774
Yeah I'm in the same boat.
When I disable all scripts the CAPTCHA stops working.
It's buggy as fuck.
Only works for some people.
4chan X doesn't do anything for the CAPTCHA, it just makes 4chan not shit with scripts disabled.
Jackie 4chan should really fix this
>>55364561
Trying 4chan X now, it doesn't seem to work very well.
Okay guys, I have a question about recording. When I'm recording games with OBS/Fraps, is it more GPU intensive or CPU intensive? I have a 750ti as my GPU, and an AMD 6 Core as my CPU. When I'm recording, I only get around 20 FPS. What should I upgrade to in order to get 60 FPS while recording? My price limit is $450.
Jeez man, fumble around in your settings. I can record 90 fps with a 100€ GPU
Why would you not use the dedicated hardware on your GPU for recording? Use shadowplay dude.
BTW fraps uses your CPU to record, and I have no idea what obs is.
Anyway, use shadowplay it has no performance impact whatsoever unless your hard disk is getting rekt or something
>>55364615
Can you export those recordings into .mp4 format?
Stop spamming GPU threads you fucks.
Post all that shit here. I'll start.
I need a new card and my budget is ~$200.
I'm looking at an EVGA GTX 960 and the new RX 480.
I don't do VR but I occasionally play some games with my friends. I honestly don't believe it will burn down my house but I am kind of worried about heat and a few other things people have been saying about the 480.
I don't use Windows, especially since Linux supports all of the games I play just fine, they're just unplayable with my $50 card.
Which should I get and if it's the 480 what's the shit I should look out for/get along with it, like a cooler or something.
>>55364486
thanks for your input
Can this please be a fucking sticky already
>>55364470
I'm going to make new gpu threads until this gets deleted, fuck you.
I hear they can take a beating. My last laptop broke after it fell off my desk so I'm thinking of getting a Thinkpad.
I have a desktop for gaming , so I don't worry about gaming performance
Everyone says only buy X, T, whatever the fuck series, but don't believe them. They're just shilling for outdated hardware with shit screens. I just got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 from best buy a month ago, love it so far and can play some old games with the Gt940m
>>55364447
x220 for portability/battery life. Get the i7 model, add some ram yourself if it only has 4gb, and replace the hard drive with an ssd. ~$300.
>>55364574
>outdated hardware
The T series, X series, and P series are still the flagships of the thinkpad line, and have the most premium components and build quality.
Moron.
Hey, /g/, I recently set up a shit tier computer with Mint on it. I want to use it exclusively for programming. What should I install on it?

I have a keyboard im trying to fix. This black wire used to be connected to one of these, i dont
know which one. Anyone got a clue?
Top to bottom:
VDD
GND (ground im guessing)
D+
D-
S
Pic related
Generally black is ground.
>>55364343
Thanks ill go with that
>>55364264
Thats a USB 1.1 or 2.0 line.
VDD = Power +5V DC
GND = Ground (0V)
D+ / D- = Data differential pairs.
S = Shield (usually grounded)
Whats wrong with them? Solder joints looks crusty, reflow them.
Old one about to die

Are Apple users the nigger loving cucks of the technology sector?
Apple just goes to where the trends are and niggers are trending

First - sauce.
Second - Beats is a mediocre, overpriced product. iPhone is a mediocre, overpriced product. They are meant to be together, as they cater to the same group of people. From a business perspective, Beats was a perfect purchase.
