What are you worried about losing / what recovery are you using? I recently updated from optimized 12.1 to optimized cm13 using TWRP and it went flawlessly with a dalvik wipe, ROM flash and nano gapps 6.0

Hi /g/. I tried /biz/ but they didn't really elaborate so here goes. Hopefully someone knows something.

I'm studying mathematics and want work in finance related jobs. Doing high-level probability and combining it with computer science (ML, AI maybe data mining).

How would I go about in making myself attractive to employers?

I assume pick all stats and comp sci courses I can.

Any good projects I should focus on? Are there resources available? Can't find a lot about this topic.

My main city of interest is Stockholm and perhaps London (or maybe Brussels after brexit).

NEETs and all speculators welcome. I enjoy all perspectives.

At work we're using an ADSL2+ internet connection with an old Optus modem. It's still using the very outdated 802.11g protocol.

I've been thinking though, since wireless is 54mbps and our internet is supposed to peak at 20mbps(it's actually 14 on speedtest), would we benefit at all from a newer modem with 300n?

Pic related is our modem

i still use g, it's not that slow everything is fast enough for video streaming and thats all that matters.

N is faster but it requires a 5ghz band for the 300mbps, 5ghz is not good for object penetration, for example if you were to leave your building and stay connected to a 5ghz N router it would most likely drop the 5ghz and go back to G only (2.4ghz).

The new AC spec is even worse since it makes you chose one or the other, If you connect to the 5ghz side of the router you will benefit but only when you are within a few feet of it or LoS preferably.

G is by no means "outdated".
>>
>>55447196
I'm not saying its outdated, but would we see any improvements? Speed is pretty good, but this modern has been here almost half as long as I've been alive.

I'm asking more out of curiosity, I still use a 54mbps g usb stick at home because it works fine.

The only thing Arch provides that no other distro does is the AUR. The wiki is quite extensive as well. So far Arch is pretty much the only distro I would use.
>inb4 AUR a shit
No it isn't. It works, read the pkgbuild and don't just keep pressing y-n-n-y in your AUR helper.

However there are people out there who want a very stable working environment. They just want security patches, not new packages.

What are the options? FYI I prefer learning things through Wiki.

>Debian
Debian stable live ISO crashes on my new laptop (2016) every time I boot. Should I install from the minimal?

>*buntu LTS
Been using it. Not a fan of apt, this is why I want to use something other than Debian

>Slackware
>FreeBSD
I like systemd

>Gentoo
Timesink. Although I might try Funtoo/Calculate Linux

>Crux
>Sourcemage
>Void
>OpenSUSE
If only it had a good wiki.

>CentOS
Now I really would LOVE to use this exclusively. How is the Wiki?

Go with Debian testing minimal. If you don't like apt, go with CentOS or OpenSUSE
>>
I'm in the same boat as you, OP.
I'm currently on Arch, just because all other distros suck ass. I like the AUR, but I'd like a more stable system and the ability to configure everything to my liking.
I hate APT too, it's too fucking slow and breaks dependencies all the time unless you're on Debian stable.
>>
>>55447882
Did you use CentOS. I am very fascinated with it but can't seem to find a proper wiki page.

Does cable internet installed in modern facilities still have issues with slow speeds during peak times? Currently I have internet with ATT with 50down/ 5 up, but they have bandwidth caps ( 600gb) that i'm hitting consistently. Time Warner Cable just installed internet in my apartment complex that has 300down/20up.

I know lots of people still talk shit about ISPs because they don't understand things like congested WiFi in the area on 2.4 ghz channels, but is this so called "cable speed drop during peak times" a reality, or is this just people who don't understand how wireless transmissions work / people with malware and shit eating up bandwidth?

It's possible that there is a peak load effect.
But studies done on the state-wide schools net where I used to work showed that over 70% the traffic on the backbone was malware. Windows malware, to be specific. Not surprising since most schools had deployed Windows.
Given that 70% of the bandwith was used by malware it's no surprise that a NASA event, for instance, would saturate the backbone.
A canny maths teacher I knew used to always make sure stuff she needed for her classes was in our cache the day before.

Hey currently overclocking a 6600k, does anybody know what a safe max vcore would be on a 212 evo? thanks
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>55446872
I thought 1.4 was the limit.
I'm at 1.34 for 4.6
I might be able to go lower, but it's stable and I got tired of rebooting 12 times.
>>
>>55446872
Apparently an Intel doc says 1.52V and 72C is safe. However it is common for people to suggest staying below 1.4V, and on a 212 evo, you'll definitely hit 72 before 1.4V.

And peaking above 72 is alright, but you don't want it to sit at ~80C for hours while you are gaming or rendering projects, so make sure to test in scenarios you actually plan on using the processor with, not just in benchmarking tool/torture tests

It looks like the average vcore for 6600k @4.6 is close to 1.35 and this tends to be near the upper limit for acceptable temps on air cooling. So you might want to just start here to test the temp, then lower the vcore until you get unstable (instead of slowly working your way up from stock).

So I have to learn Tomcat for the next week as I can get a raise if I do so. I don't know much about it, to be honest I don't even know what it does.

I've been googling around, but I'd like to try asking here. What should I know? What kind of job would I be doing using Tomcat? I'm currently a Linux SA.

Why aren't you manchildren using the greatest operation system of all time?

Why do you constantly put up with broken or incompleet features, no professional support and no useful applications?

Windows 10 has everything from seemless integration, productivity with Office 2016, file backup with OneDrive, and the brouser of the future, Microsoft Edge. Not to mention unmatched multimedia and gaming experiences with DirectX12 and Groove Music.

Its time to stop living in the past. Microsoft is your friend, they are giving it to you free. Take them up on there offer, for the good of computers :)
