How are HDD holding up?

Is it right to get something like a 1TB WD Blue for 50 bucks or is WD complete shit now compared to Toshiba or whatever?

Or maybe with the new technology SSD are becoming very much cheap enough to justify shilling out the extra few bucks. I saw something on here recently about a new with great prices.

WD isn't too bad, it's Seagate that's the problem. Toshiba's drives are hit and miss, for instance, I have 4 DT01ACA200 running in my server, and they have been fine for over 3 years, while the one I bought for my desktop died within 2 years. HGST is the best you can get, although they are quite pricey. The adage of "you get what you pay for" couldn't be more true in the case of hard drives.
>>
Still widely used everywhere on servers. I'd say it will take another decade or two for it to phase out.

I would like something that is also portable, like throw the case in the car for transport and not have to worry about that fucking it all up right there.

Currently using all SSD in my case but it feels like a huge waste of space to have these SSD which have already ran out of space when I could stick 10 massive HDD inside.

Why are there no dx12 benchmarks for APUs? I'd love to see the performance with better multithreading and the fixed driver overhead issue.

Recently became enlightened to free software so I decided to slowly attempt to switch over. I decided to change my web browser (which was google chrome). I switched to Firefox at first and every time I opened it i got the "your connection is not secure" message. I looked up fixes for it but none of it worked. So then I tried switching to Waterfox. Waterfox worked great at first but wouldn't allow me to watch netflix and would ignore the exceptions for pop-ups that I set. So Now I am trying Iridium and still netflix videos wont play. Also I cannot enlarge photos on twitter or play videos off of it. How can I fix my problems with Iridium? Or any of the other free browsers? Am I a lost cause retard?

So I've resorted to Pale Moon. So far it feels about as fast as Firefox and the addons I use work and the lack of Australis is fucking amazing. I will immediately switch to another browser if /g/ can recommend one better.

How does the Linux kernel even know so many devices? Does someone test out each device or do manufacturers contribute?

20+ years of development by most of the actually talented programmers out there, and a nerdy obsession to have your name on the biggest open source project ever
>>

>Does someone test out each device or do manufacturers contribute?

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1047633/one-writes-linux-drivers-235-usb-webcams

People who own a device without loonix drivers contribute to the kernel. Manufacturers won't even release specifications most of the time.
>>
>>55452335
>Does someone test out each device
Not one person but basically yes. Like 50% of the Linux kernel is just drivers.

If you had a choice of a monitor.

Would you go 4k (16:9) or a ultrawide (1440p) or a curved ultrawide? (1440p)

Why do we need separate Linux Distros, anyway?
Why cant they all just unite and make 1 good distro instead of all these useless ones?

Because philosophies and differences you retard.

Because you get what you pay for. In this case a handout OS created by autistic programmers living in their parent's basement.

Canonical tried to get programmers together to make a Linux distro worth a shit but in the end failed due to lack of money and programmers.
>>
Canonical tried it. Dumbass retards refused it.

It also has an extremely cute logo.

It works out of the box. There is a built-in addon to convert webpage video players to the inbulit HTML5 player.
