Why does this happen?
Fresh restart ~6 hours ago, zero programs launched since then, and memory fills up with... nothing.
If I run some stuff it will slowly displace the nothing that's eating RAM. However after I close those programs, the free space is slowly re-consumed. It doesn't happen all the time. If I'm doing something that's I/O or CPU intensive and RAM reaches near 100%, everything bogs down to a slideshow.
Please note the size of the largest program running, and the TOTAL size of listed non-OS programs running is less than 500MB out of 8GB available. It's not search indexing, there's plenty of virtual memory, there is no malware and installing more RAM did not help (had 4GB, same behavior but worse results because of the smaller pool).
What the heck is going on?
>>55584671
One of the processes thats running is leaking memory. I'm honestly suprised it hasnt crashed yet. How about you uninstall all that retarded shit, then reinstall it one by one until the problem reappears.?
Then you'll know which program is leaking..
>>55584736
Actually, you should uninstall half the optional stuff. If that fixes it then reinstall half the uninstalled stuff. Otherwise uninstall half the remaining optional stuff.
And so on until you have isolated the bad bit.
Much quicker than doing one at a time.

its known issue with of the updates on win7. there is a way to fix this, either blocking the exact ( they are multiple ones) svchost.exe from running or by running a tool m$(?) created to update and fix it. i remember there was a link in the microshill site about a year ago while i was searching for a solution.

I'm in the market for a HDD enclosure, found a good deal locally. does anyone on /g/ know anything about Orico? Are they a good brand to buy?
It just needs to be USB 3.0, be cheap, preferably metal, and hold at least one 1TB drive. I'm looking at the 9528U3, link related for reference.

Is this what tech illiterates think about?
Put them inside your PC, if that doesn't work get a NAS.
>>55584653
PC died after a housefire (non nvidia related) anon, that's why I now have a laptop and 6, 1TB HDDs laying around.
Now shoo shoo, you're being hostile

It's Chinese ask /csg/
Hey /g/
So todays a shitty day for me... i feel like an idiot but it appears I've got some sort of malware from trying to download an unsafe torrent. I was depsperate and made a stupid mistake...
So im hoping for some advice because at this point im think i kight as well take my pc somewhere like geek squad.
Here's the gist; i cant start it up in safe mode... it just doesnt allow this to happen. I think my computer was made to access msconfig and disable safemode as an option somehow... forgive me if thats a silly consideration, im not super tech savvy obviously. Anyways... this is really fuckin me up coz i need my pc and im not aure what to do... i mean, is it too risky to hust start it up and try to system restore or whatever? Of course some details are needed in order to evaluate and get an idea of what we're talking about here...
I tried getting my torrent. As soon as i started to feel suspicious, because it had me downlosding through springfiles, i started takung things down and deletung the files. Now i feel dumb coz right then and there i shoukd have done a system restore poitn and taken things mire seriously... anyways i notice a fake antivirus thing, some adobe programs and firefix all newly installed so i remove all of them.... heres where msconfig and cmd prompt started flashing... and i panic... my computer is quickly taken over and i have no option but to manually shut down.
One of the things i removed (although it seems to have alrdy affected me) is a remote control type program. I forget what it was called but it was along the lines of cml or something i hinestly cant rememver but when i googled it i found it to be some sort if agreement to give remote access. This freaked me out. Idk what to do... i really hope someone can give me advice =-= thanks in adcance
Wasnt sure about going to /adv/ with this...

What GPU do you have?

Thanks for the reply. Im freaking out :c

Consider making a thread about GPUs and throw in your question there, it might get more replies.
/g/ should have more GPU threads
I have very important opinions on GPUs such as
>house fire lel
>no drivers top kek
>intel shills
>amd shills
How are there so many GPU threads? Comparing benchmarks can only be so entertaining.
A perfectly fine thread got kicked off to the archive for this garbage.
Is OpenGL dead? Will there be a mid-level C-based framework to replace it?
>>55584278
innit being replaced with Vulkan?
>>55584278
you mean Vulcan?
>>55584288
>>55584290
Vulkan is a low-level alternative, not a direct replacement.

Will we ever get desktop threads back?
>>55584180

I know but every board has a desktop thread once in a while, and they get auto-saged/404'd on /g/ instantly
hey guys, is there an alternative to this program that i'm using right now? it seems kind of outdated.

but it won't look like bakamplayer :(

At first the lack of GUI can be disturbing, but you get used to it soon.
i've already been thinking of returning my 1080 for a 480 and this bench encourages me even more.
dual 480's in cf come out cheaper than a 1080 and rapes the 1080 hard.
also it does appear that pascal does indeed have async improvements. pascal actually receives a boost in performance. while maxwell clearly doesn't benefit. it either gains no boost or has a slight decrease.
>>55584131
6.8% boost for the 1080 with async on but that 8.5% for the 480 and near 13% for the fury x.

I've been thinking of returning my Suzuki Bandit for a pair of roller skates.
GOAT GPU.
>>55584126
As a current nvidia user I agree with this on all fronts other than power consumption, but I'm stuck with an oc'ed gt 730 right now so the performance difference makes up for that.

How do you guys go about debugging code? I learned how to program with VC++ and it had a very useful, powerful debugger. Later on I learned C and now I just use printing functions even when using huge IDEs. I think it's a bad habit but I'm just used to it.
>>55583955
idk, i learned python first and i didn't debug shit at all besides playing with it in the repl, now working with c++ it's a huge confusing mess.
>>55583955
Not a bad habit so far as I'm concerned. It's an excellent way to debug. Hell, I say you're an idiot if you're trying to make something work and you don't do this.
Probably a mixture of print statements, using step-into, break points and looking at the variables in memory at the point in question.
