in my attic i found a broken VHS tape of an old 2006 football match
then i remembered me and my friend were bored and smashed it in two sometime around 2009
the case is broken but the rolls are pretty much intact except that its ripped at the beginning
can it be fixed by using the case of a blank tape?
>>55587074
Just confess, it's full of porn isn't it...
>>55587097
this
It's actually the case that holds the data, the tape spools are actually dynamos that power the case. You can put the spool into another case but it will still show the video that was loaded onto the other case.
Planning to buy a SSD. Since they are pushing spyware everything, I'm wondering if there are reported cases of infected firmwares in SSDs. Are there some brands that I should avoid?
Sorry for the contribution to the consumerist part of /g/
>>55587034
Buy intel so youre at least infected by american spyware instead of chink or gook
No need to worry about the firmware, the hardware itself could be compromised and no one would ever know

I've given myself 4 days to write a download manager for my server. It must have: user management, rss support and CRUD functionality on files.
First things first: coming up with a name. I'm thinking of the following: 'yggdrasil', 'valkyrja' and 'ragnarok'. Are there any other obscure names I'm missing?
is this os good enough now?

It's almost as outdated as Debian stable.
Why the hell doesn't 4chan support VP9 yet? Is there any logical decision behind this?
VP9 is superior to VP8 in terms of decode performance, quality per bitrate, and it's quite literally the future.
Summoning mootwo.
>>55586773
>Is there any logical decision behind this?
Not at all.
Well, maybe it takes a little bit of work to add something server side...
>>55586848
No, they don't do anything with the video file(except thumbnail generation and retrieving the resolution, which is trivial with ffmpeg which they probably use). They just need to remove the line of code preventing VP9.
Hiroshimoot has no idea how to change anything. If it wasn't there before the takeover, it never will be.

Is the new Microsoft Edge just the same thing as IE?
What are the best basic browsers?
Anyone?
Ok, so apparently /g/ is fucking useless...
>>55586541
You're fucking useless, you piece of trash.
How can you not know that Edge has a different renderer and javascript engine, is packed in UWP and functions like webview on Android.
How can you know of Edge but not know of Google? edge explorer difference
Just go use it, the lack of functions sounds great for someone like you

How bad a bottleneck would an intel Q9550 quadcore 3Ghz and GTX 1080 produce, my mobo uses PCIe2.0 i havent feel the need to upgrade them in a loooong time?
Also im currently using a radeon HD 7950 (PCIe3.0 on a 2,0 port)
>>55586428
You're already bottlenecking the shit out of your 7950.
>>55587500
how can i exactly measure this?
>>55587512
Go compare the framerates you get in games on your machine to those on hardware tech review sites.

yo /g/ i've been looking into getting a mechanical keyboard since april last year, but i haven't because i forgot
I was originally thinking of getting a CM quickfire tk, but the price went from $130 to $160 in like 1 day last august and i got discouraged from living

I am literally using a keyboard that has "Made for Windows 98" written on the box, and it came with a floppy disk (which I can only assume contained the drivers for media buttons). Literally anything would be an upgrade

Anyone ever used it? If so: what do you think of it? Is it usable?
>>55586356
/g/ is not tech literate enough to be Hurd developers. They don't even into Guix SD—just Gentoo and Arch.
I've seen some screenshots of it, specifically Debian GNU/Hurd. The DE was painful to look at. This has no bearing whatever on the actual performance, of course.
All in all, it is not usable, most likely, for a know-nothing computer user. As for experts, it probably can do some stuff, but I don't know.
>>55586356
Last i checked it wasn't ready for everyday usage.
It's amazing.

This graph is bullshit, Win 10 is much better than both Win 8 and 8.1.
