>he creates "backups" on a cheap external hd or "the cloud" instead of having a raid system
I am developing a cloud storage thing using ssh, unison (rsync, but better) and watchdog (uses the best filewatching protocol for whatever OS you're on) that does regular backups to an external HDD. You can use it with RAID.
>>55590414
>Backups
Why would I backup animu? Of course I run a massive RAID6.
>>55590414
A system that's always connected, or even worse always synced, is not a proper backup.

How progressive.
Need a new ISP. These are my options. What should I go with?
I currently have AT&T, and I hate them so fucking much, they've got to be the worst company in the world.
Time Warner Cable is the fastest on this list, but would I actually ever get that speed? With AT&T, it rarely goes above 1.5 megs down, even though I'm supposed to be getting 15.
Bump. Anyone?
ex-twc employee here, IMO they were the best ISP I ever had, kinda bummed charter ate them. if your speeds ever fall below like 80% of your package, call in and bitch, they can't hang up and you'll either get a discount or a tech or disconnected. just pay your bill on time or prepare to be raped by fees.

You should be doing this with everything
Hey /g/. I was wondering what email provider/service you guys use? I would like a free email service that allows me to remain somewhat anonymous without needing to enter a secondary email or phone number for verification purposes. I want to simply pick a username and password, and then to be able to send emails. thanks
I pay $10 a month for rackspace e-mail off my domain, if anything breaks e-mailwise I can always call somebody (in comparison to a free service)
Tutanota
not OP, but is fastmail any good?
What mousepad do you use?
I use a $1 pad with a picture of Marvin Gaye on it. I never understood what the point of the gaymur pads are, but I'm interested in getting one of those 28 inch ones for both my keyboard and mouse.

Just got a Mionix alioth xxl.
covers half of my table but at least now I don't have to move my mousepad when i shift my sitting position.
the gsr ofc
Just wondering if such a thing exists... I'm currently re-sorting 5 Tb of various data (pictures, videos, documents, backup files, databases, ect...) between 3 different HDD, with a new sorting logic.
So i'm in search of a tool that would "emulate" all the file transfer (and show dir hierarchy as if they were instantaneously done (and maybe check clobbering at this moment)), and once everything is ok i can "push" the changes, and then only it starts moving things for real...
I don't know if i'm clear or not, anyways, ideas ?
Oh, and it can be both Windows or Debian, preference for Windows (more powerful PC).
What inspired me is when you make new partition on disk with gparted or anything like that ; first you list with a nice interface what you want to do and only at the end you write everything down...
Thanks for the idea, gonna make myself an app out of this and get rich.
>>55590250
if i read this right, you basically want to write your script, and "dry run" the sort / copy?
if so you can use rsync as the copy tool it has a dry run switch (--dry-run)
it can be used in windows inside cygwin
What is the difference between Memristors and Neuromorphic chips?
>>55590187
Memristors, as HP described, are a type of resistive RAM. The structure has an electron vacancy that can be moved around between two elements to represent the state of a bit. They can also be influenced to switch at high speeds and perform logic. In effect, if the fabric were there to support it, you could have a chip with one basic switching structure that functions as permanent storage, memory, logic, and can alter itself on the fly.
By Neuromorphic I can only assume you're referring to IBM's Synapse project for DARPA. Its a non Von Neumann architecture that pairs memory directly with logic to eliminate the bottleneck in now conventional systems which limits theoretical throughput.

>difference between Memristors and Neuromorphic chips
Nothing, they both will never be implemented outside of a lab.
I just want a group of cute girls to slowly take spoonfulls of my brain, eating and nonsensically bantering about their daily lives while I slide away into infinity.

while it's definitely an advantage for AMD, nvidia sucking at parallel compute is nothing new. nobody mined buttcoins with nvidia GPUs for a reason.
