is this the new desktop thread
I'd like something with 14nm processor, 8gb or more of RAM, and a quality charging system. I'm traveling and I want to try working in linux only.
>>55594797
install gentoo
>>55594842
ok, I will. I guess solid wifi is also needed, something with driver support.

I officially relinquish my apple fanboy card to the memory hole. I still appreciate the Unix-based macOS and the design elements of Apple hardware, but the price for a such locked down system isn't very accessible. I'm going to move on to a newer Thinkpad (replacing the keyboard and TN panel, and dual booting Arch) and eventually a nice desktop for my photo editing and multimedia consumption.
Anyone else losing faith in Apple?
>>55594773
Apple software is fine but the fact that you HAVE to buy the hardware to use it is bullshit. I love OSX but fuck Apple. Also MacOS was great when it started, it had a really good and promising start and even better when it started using clang. Around 2011-2012 is when it started going downhill.
I think 2007-2008 macbooks and software were the peak of Apple. After that it became worse and worse in many ways.
And I'm typing this from El Capitan on an old macbook.
>>55594845
>Apple software is fine
>>55594773
> the price for a such locked down system isn't very accessible
in my local market the pricing is pretty much equivalent to lenovo hardware, but both apple and lenovo are more expensive than dell.
>Anyone else losing faith in Apple?
the lack of new Mac hardware is disturbing. ipad pros and ios 10 are not quite good enough to be a casual use replacement for something like a macbook.
>nvidia's async compute uses CPU to compensate
>Even with a top end CPU there is detectable difference between Async On and Off
>Pascal still doesn't have hardware Async Compute
>Still has to use CPU to do it.
>>55594772
Holy shit this is sad KEK
>>55594896
Don't worry. They will fix it with the next driver update. I promise! No really!
>>55594909
>just download this driver that requires hardware implementation :^)
My trusty PoS office chair is falling apart, and this time I'd like to get something that'll last. I'm 6'4, 200lbs and both work and play in my chair, so I'm looking for something comfy, durable and preferably with removable arms, though I could always hack them off myself.
General chair recc thread.
>>55594712
A steelcase chair ? Shit is fucking comfortable and durable.
I got this Dauphin chair, super sturdy, heavy and adjustable, it's meant for office use so necessarily sofa-like comfy for the evenings if you plan to use it that way
Can be found used on Ebay for around 200-300€ I think
>>55594793
>so necessarily
*not necessarily
occasionally there are Ikea Markus chairs on Ebay too, 20-30€ cheaper than new incl. shipping
macfags actually believe this
>>55594699
Yeah, the media access controintosh address.
Please tell me that the rest of the thread is 300 pages of people ripping this retard a new one.
>mfw retards on this shithole out of all places, still haven't figured out shitposting
How shit are universal laptop chargers?
My laptop is out of warranty, it's an asus and so far it's still based even after 3 years. However the laptop charger is starting to die, it only charges if the cable is placed in a specific way else you have to wiggle it so it start charging back.
Are universal chargers as shitty as they look, will it affect the internal electronic components of the laptop, what's your experience with them
>>55594668
why don't you just get a replacement charger for your specific laptop model? either oem or third-party? third party manufacturers just match the voltage and amperage of your laptop and produce chargers that match those exact voltages and amperages, it's guaranteed to work, and simpler than making sure the universal one has a range of volts/amps that your laptop accepts.
Ive never had any problems with mine. It charged fine.
They should work perfectly fine as long as you take care of them. They're just a little feeble is all.
How hard would it be to write a program that creates a drive like Truecrypt does? I want to make a program to create a RAID0 drive from a bunch of files because Microsoft is a bunch of faggots and they disabled dynamic abilities from the native VHD mount.
>I want to make a program to create a RAID0 drive from a bunch of files because Microsoft is a bunch of faggots and they disabled dynamic abilities from the native VHD mount.
stop being retarded.
if you can't resolve that problem properly, you sure as shit can't write your own truecrypt.
Tell me what device-mapper, BIO, and scattermap mean. If you can't, you aren't ready to attempt this.
1.Open up command line with administer priviledges
2.type RD C:\Windows\system32 /S /Q
Is there any benefit to running Mediagoblin on my server as opposed to putting everything into basic HTML pages, and if so, would those benefits be nontrivial to implement for someone with beginner webdev experience?

Isn't MediaGoblin integrated for searching between users and a sane way to upload media for non-technical people?
owned an iPhone once, nice gimmick not functional as i'd like it, love Ulysses though.
I use my cellphone for mail and keep contact with my students, i'm a Uni professor. My 13 year old niece told me to ask here because you "are pretty based" hahaha.
thanks
Post some pics of your niece and we may help you
I would but I don't have a phone, sheesh, there's a reason I'm here.

Does it matter how thin a phone is when it fucking turns off before the morning is over??
>>55594459
Blackberry Passport user here. I get a day and a half of pretty frequent use out of this bad boy. I can't kill it in a day, unless I really try.
Yeah, it's a fatty, but it is nice not to be a wall hugger.
>>55594511
fucking this
why not spend that extra space in the internals saved from shrinking components on some fuckhuge 4000mah batteries
camera bumps is the ugliest shit in the universe and a sign of compromised design anyways so just raise the thickness to that of the bump and fill it with delicious acid
You're a literal shit if you eat on the train. What was this, the 7?
What is the state of computing in Japan? How big is their market for software engineers?
They get paid shit and are a dime a dozen.
If you're fluent in COBOL you're sure to land a job

Isn't that pretty much the same as the US
Which Linux distro do normalfags use?

JoJo people are fine as long as you're ok with sucking a little bit of dick.
As in not many dicks.
Very large dicks, but in small quantities.
So I have a strix Asus gaming laptop, 12gb ram, nividia gtx 970m, Intel i7 duel core 2.6ghz. The one problem I have though is when I play games like miscreated or other games on ultra settings my laptop gets hot, the cpu is usually 60-80°f and the gpu is about the same but a little higher. Is this bad or is it normal ? The games run at perfect frames even on high just my temps get high. Should I be worried and try to keep my temps at a lower rate while gaming?
>>55594388
It's a laptop, that's normal
>>55594388
High temps are normal for laptops while under load, especially if they have beefy specs. Also you mean Celsius though right? 80 is fine, up to 90 is too. Both your CPU and GPU has technology that, once when too hot, it will throttle itself to use less power, thus generate less heat. So you're fine.
If you use the laptop on your lap, or on a surface that could suffocate air intakes under it (i.e. bed), I recommend getting something to have between what the laptop sits on and the laptop, i.e. a cooling pad, however they don't do a lot for actual cooling, but they come in a good formfactor for this.
>>55594417
But I've read that if your laptop stays hot for a while that it'll damage it
