What is the best value / budget GPU right now ?
Is it still NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti ?
I don't need high-end, just for stuff like DayZ ?
>>55602870
>still
It was never.
>>55602870
Used R9 290(X).
Is it actually worth it to upgrade to a 1080 or wait until next year when they actually have substantial improvements over a 980ti
>>55636137

Ok anons i need your advice/idea.
I have this old laptop that i've been trying to fix for quite some time now. It's not that bad (i remember playing Civilization V there no problem).
I took it in service to get it cleaned just little before i got new one and there they said all the hardware was ok.
It was around January of this year that i tryed to boot linux in it so I can start learning it a bit more because one proffesor on our university said it's really, really useful.
So this is the problem:
If i try starting it normaly it takes me to that loading screen of Win7 (last OS i had on him) and then switches to that start normaly/safe mode, anywhere i go it switches to diagnostics and done.
If i try booting Kali, Ubuntu, Mint... Linux from live USB it almost at the start stops with what ever it was doing (just shows you that first black screen and stops transfering data between laptop and USB) and if i try from CD it starts to make that PEEP-PEEP-PEEP sound like when you used to hit one same button on old Windows OS.
Any ideas what it could be? I couldn't figure...

Take hard drive out, try again, report results
Bad ram would be my guess

Sec to take lid off...
Is this possible?
Buy Rasp pi
Buy large sd card
Set it up for torrents
Hide it somewhere with free public wifi for said torrents
Hotswap every few weeks with another rpi set up the same, then retrieve files etc
I'm thinking about hiding it somewhere in the ceiling of the disabled loos in a local mall. There is a wifi signal there. Plus, I can take my time doing the memory card swaps and I'l just make sure to bring a set of crutches and hobble in/out.
Anyone do something like this before?
>>55635140
why would you even bother doing that
Yes, it is possible? I'm wondering why you would ever want to do that though, especially on the RPi's low throughput.
Public wifi signals are usually slow as fuck, drop your connection every 30 minutes, and have torrenting blocked.
Swatch stock plunges 14% as the Swiss maker of Omega and Tissot timepieces said earnings slid 50 percent to 60 percent.

So I want to move to a multi computer set up. The first thing I want to do is set up using my laptop for music whilst still using my desktop for games.
What should I look into for getting sound from multiple sources that have one output?
Is what I am suggesting in anyway plausible?
just get a cheap 4 channel external soundcard, for around $50 you can get one so you can plug your computer, laptop, and have a master out and even headphone out.
I had one couple of years ago when i started Djing.
>>55634736
Yes, just use an audio interface. Plug the output of both into the input of the interface, and plug headphones/speakers into the interface.
>>55634775
Can you link an example of what your talking about? I dont think I am looking at the right things.
How do I make Windows 10 as secure as Linux? (or as secure as possible?)
I know that by using limited user accounts only you can make it a lot more secure.
What other measures can I take?
meme answers, jokes, trolls, and constructive answers all welcome
You can't, just use it responsibly, don't execute shit from unreliable sources, use https.
If you are about to walk into something suspicious and have no choice, use a VM.
AVs for domestic users are worthless, common sense is the best AV out there.

Just use common sense.

Lets talk about encryption.
I still need to encrypt my hard drives and I thought today would be a good day.
Bitlocker is Windows only and True crypt is not considered safe anymore, so which software is /g/ using?
>>55632763
LUKS
>>55632776
Doesnt work on Windows, does it? I figured, since I dual boot I'd like to access my data from both operating systems.
Also, in case anyone is using VeraCrypt: did they fix the bug which prevented drives from being mounted on Linux?
>>55632848

kek
at least use veracrypt the truecrypt alternative but YMMV
>>55632776

How does one rice Windows 10?
>>55632722
You don't
The closest will be rainmeter, but it's pretty CPU heavy.
Get Linux
>>55632742
I tried installing Ubuntu to rice but I had problems partitioning, gonna wait until I get a Laptop.
>>55632722
You can use UxStyle and then find some custom themes on Deviantart, that's about it.
