Does anyone know of a software that could take a microphone audio input and process it into the negative noise to play into headphones? AKA Noise Cancellation.
I had this thought: What would happen if I put a microphone inside my PC... maybe it could reduce the fan noises ect...
Thoughts?
What the fuck are you on
>>55628968

> noise cancellation
Yes, if
- your microphone is small enough to fit into one of the headphone halves
- you have two microphones; one for each side
- the mic-DSP-headphone system has a linear frequency response in the audible band
- the DSP's latency is low enough that you don't get nasty delay effects
Putting the mic next to the fan won't do shit because the noise from the fan takes a complex path (or rather, several paths) to your ear, which means the fan will sound different inside the case than it does in your ear. You'd have to compensate for that with your DSP which requires exact knowledge of the system and only works if you sit at the exact same spot all the time. You can't move your head, you can't move any large objects in your room.
TL;DR
It's impractical, either get noise cancelling headphones (passive works well enough), a quieter PC or deal with the noise.
I won this at a contest and it honestly feels like a toy, the UI is awful and unresponsive.
What use can I get out of this thing?
Give it away to someone, shit's useless if it even works.

likely a 480p screen running android 4.4
they can barely function, but you could wall mount it as a fancy alarm clock or thermostat i guess

Yep, something like this. It's basically a digital picture frame.
How likely will university know if I download about 8gb of cracked software on their wifi, given that a few thousand people use it daily for everything from streaming videos to porn?
Because porn is allowed but copyright infringement will get me b&
It's a direct download.

Country? Uni? Also probably not but if you have to download and use your username to login to the network over LAN then maybe try randomizing your MAC address.
>>55628760
100% if they actually want to find out what you're doing and you're not using a vpn
>>55628760
Depends on how strapped the school is for bandwidth. If it's tight, they'll try to knock as many people off as they can. Otherwise, University IT is probably too busy trying to put out fires to care about some kid downloading warez
Hello /g/! Is there a real reason in chasing more up to date packages when choosing a GNU/Linux distribution?
For five years I have been using Debian testing on my computer with kde4 and then the fifth. Lately I have been discovering other options - different desktop environments also the tiling window managers. I really liked the bspwm but after discovering the Unity DE on the Ubuntu 16.04 I felt like it was the most comfortable, was smoothest and the most polished from the UX side. The only thing that bothers me that it's(unity) not available on distributions other than Ubuntu.
The current topical version of Ubuntu (16.04) have kind of overdue package versions, for example git package is far behind from current or even previous stable releases.
I know I can install the packages that I really require to be the most up to date(or even any specific version, but it's not the issue here) from source, but having to get around this way triggers my(I hate being the meme guy here) autism.
>>55628677
eh, it depends. a lot of times new packages can break something.
After some research I know there is little to no chance that unity 7 will be ported to anything but Ubuntu. But the unity 8 doesn't require patches/hacks etc. Do you think it will be available on the other distributions when it gets to the stable state along with mir?
Arch has an aur setup for unity if you want something up to date senpai

I'm a faggot who is asking for help on /g/ but here it goes:
I need a program that just continues to download an image from a URL. I tried to make it in batch but apparently you have to hard code in the filename of the image so it would only download the image once and then fail to continue downloading it as there was already an image with that filename downloaded.
Can anyone help me out? It doesn't matter what language, it should be fairly easy if you aren't an idiot like me.
>>55628604

>>55628722
See this is kinda what I want but I need to download the same image again and again and again
Can't you make an integer which automatically increments after each download, and then append that integer to the filename?
Don't know batch, but generally something like this:
>Int NUM
>Increment NUM
>Repeat process
