Anyone here have a shitty laptop like me
>cant hold a charge
>4 years old
>1.4 GHZ processor
>left latch taped together
Just fucking kill me
My laptop just died, my main laptop is now an IdeaPad S10
>Atom N270
>2GB RAM
>just tossed in a 120GB chink SSD
>10.1" 1024x576 screen
Would be a PowerBook G4 if I didn't just kill the battery

4 years old? Why are you complaining? I have 10 years old lenovo and it's still a good browsing machine, what's wrong with your laptop?
>>55639354
>4 years old
You don't know how to take care of stuff
So, since Pokémon GO doesn't work on my phone (LG E460 with Android 4.1.2), I thought about trying Ingress, and see if it's an enjoyable game or not. But I've seen that, other than the obvious ones (position), it asked me for a lot of other authorizations. How much data and what kind of data am I giving to Niantic and Google, or someone else? Also, your opinion on the game, unless that would be too /v/ for here.
>>55639351
I love this game. Been playing for 3 years. What permissions is it asking for that you're skeptical about OP?
>>55639418
Contacts and accounts. Especially contacts. Those are the biggest ones. But I'm curious about how does it works, in general.
These are the permission it asks for
The game doesn't work when contacts is off. I tried
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
I'm going to build a new pc, first one in over a decade. Which GPU should I go with?
I'll be playing ARMA III, squad and Battlefield 1.
All will be played on a 1080p television, and potentially a nicer monitor later on.
I can't tell if a 480 or 1060 will suffice. Or if I should just get the 1080.
Any input is hugely appreciated.
>>55639333
>spoon feed me /g/
Google benchmarks for the games you want to play, look up system requirements, look up reviews.
By the way nice trips fag.
for 1080p get the 1060
>>55640328
Awesome, thank you.
In a couple of months if I get a decent monitor do you think that would still hold up?
3Dmark Time Spy a big scam?

>>55639259
Good job Pajeet, 20 AMD points have been transferred to your account.
>>55639259
Looks like they are using the nvidia pre-emption and labeling that as "async compute".
Obviously the bias is there. Now what I wonder is, do they use the same preemption for AMD cards as well? Or do AMD cards get the actual parallel async compute? If former, then there's some serious issues with the benchmark. If later, then it might be valid but we'd have to ask how much of it is parallelized?

I have my GPU on "Prefer maximum performance" globally, and with GPU acceleration in the browser, it fucks my temps over just when browsing normal websites, and also steals massive GPU RAM if the browser is running while playing games -- sometimes leading to heat issues and crashes...
Turned off GPU acceleration today and the chip is now much cooler and less strained on a daily basis, giving better performance in games.
How much does it actually help browsing? Tried Twitch & Youtube and saw no noticeable difference.
It makes a massive performance difference in anything actually demanding but it doesn't really matter for day to day browsing.
Turn off prefer maximum performance makes much more sense but do what you want.
Also even at maximum performance your GPU shouldn't be overheating and fucking up unless you OC'd it.
>>55638605
>It makes a massive performance
Does it though? I read this piece from 2014 and it concludes that it might not be as consequential as you would think: https://helgeklein.com/blog/2014/12/impact-gpu-acceleration-browser-cpu-usage/
Sometimes it apparently even strains the CPU because it has issues sharing data with the GPU... Admittedly they try it with a shit tier integrated card but still.

What are the odds of my Google account being hacked. My password database (Keepass) is uploaded so I can easily access it on my different devices. I have a paranoia that it will get hacked and by extension my life made increasingly difficult. Please consolidate me.
>>55637902
had some damn pajeet from india try to nab my gmail. I guess it was a good opportunity to change my password.
>>55637918
Yeah I think I'm going to do the same because mine hasn't changed in a while. The next dilemma is deciding a new password. I get mixed responses her about what method to use in choosing a new password.
use 2fa, worry less
worst case would be unknown access,

Solar energy, pros, cons, facts and debate
>do my homework
>>55637482
Pros:
release from the oil/grid jews
Cons:
chinks produce solar panels, so now you are beholden to them
Still no mass produced panels with efficiency 30% or higher
Silicon based panels create horrendous environment poisoning waste
Only few places have 5-6 hours of peak sunlight per day
Only a few places have seasonal stability for year round peak sunlight during the day
There is no real solution for delivering power on demand for large scale solar farms
Silicon based panels still degrade and steadily lose efficiency
Hey guys I've been running a Z170 FTW for quit a while now and 99% of the startups are completely fine but every once in a great while the bios chip fucks up and I have the use the reset button, does anyone else have this problem?
>>55637471
I have this occasionally with my Gigabyte Z170-UD3. Looks like it gets stuck in a boot loop, then it eventually restarts on its own and boots up fine. A few times I've had to manually shut it down and restart it though.

So I am currently going to get an HP chromebook 11 when my college starts, just wondering if there is anything equivalent to the system32 folder that many people have in their pc's?
Dude what
What does buying a Chromebook have to do with the system32 folder?
>>55636494
trollling my m8s to delete the shit, the college gives every student a chromebook 11.
>>55636536
I know there's some sort of equivalent of a terminal and it's based off of Linux, so you could probablyrm -rf /
I remember seeing a much more subtle version of that using numbers, so try that for fooling the more technically adept.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, my iPhone won't connect to iTunes on PC. Now, Windows is offering me to switch to OneDrive - actually this is the only option it is offering me to transfer my photos to computer.
Am I paranoid for not wanting to?
No, but you're already using iOS and windows 10, so you might as well.
>>55636384

Found your problem.
Oh, funny.
The thing is, I really don't see the point for my data to go online before being stored. I just want my freaking photos - I paid good money for this shit. Any suggestions?
Does /g/ know anything about massage recliners?
I think I want one but I don't even know where to start. All the reviews on google are skeezy as fuck and all the sites selling them are even sleazier.
be prepared to drop $2k on anything decent
That's fucking depressing dude
Brookstone has a model that's about $2500.
Look for a zero gravity massage chair if you get one.
