Why do 10-bit, 12-bit etc. color palettes exist? If 8-bit is too low for HDR for example, why not just jump directly to 16-bit? It might use a bit more space but storage is cheap and also it might improve performance as 16-bit is a standard value size (2 bytes) so it's less complicated to fetch from memory, and it is more future proof than 10-bit etc which might just have to be increased again in the future. Or am I just misunderstanding something?
bits are exponential so 10bit colour is actually 64x more than 8bit colour. anything past 13 is impossible for non-quantum computers to render

you're not getting this one past me without a (Citation needed).

this is the most commonly cited study on quantum colour depth by Prof. H. Zeng:

I actually did my dissertation on the problem so feel free to ask questions.
Thinking about getting a Kobo glo HD for reading light novel and manga (maybe?)
Is it better than Kindle paperwhite 3?
>>55651744
It's made by Nips, of course its better.
>>55651744
>Kobo glo HD
I've never seen this thing. It looks similar to the paperwhite which I do own. Is the main advantage that you can read other formats like epub with it?
>>55651781
Yeah you can read epub, cbr and cbz (manga/comic format) natively with it
Should I migrate from Arch to Parabola?
>>55651721
No.
>>55651728
Fair enough. Why shouldn't I?
>>55651755
Why should you? Does it offer any advantages to you?
Nvidia released their full lineup already and AMD still only has 1 flop of a midrange card
what gives?
>>55651709
>Nvidia released their full lineup already
...nvidia got there first?
>AMD still only has 1 flop of a midrange card
reference cards are bad, in other news the sky is still blue and it's not raining cats and dogs
>>55651787
1060 Btfos the 480, reference or not.
And youd think AMD would try and compete with Nvidia instead of waiting until 2017 to release a new lineup
>>55651709
nvidia is still missing the 1050, titan, and 1080ti.
RX 460,470, and 490 are coming too

About to buy a cheap 21.5'' full hd monitor. Will I regret not paying more for a bigger size?
It's this one, and will just be for web browsing:

To fucking who? Your waifu?
So I broke down and got Windows 10 after Windows 7 Crashed.
Surprise, surprise, after installing some updates, Windows 10 claims it cannot start my computer. The three options provided to help me start my computer do not work.
I reinstall Windows. After working fine for a few weeks, the same thing happens.
Can anybody tell me why anybody would use this piece of shit operating system?
Why are there ads in my start panel? Why is there something called "Cortana" which, as far as I could tell, had no discernible personality at all (thus not requiring a name at all)? Why, inexplicably, did virtual disk systems stop running exactly every time I tried to open diskmgmt, and only when I tried to use diskmgmt (a program which indeed, relies on vds to function)? Why did the fucking time on my computer change every hour, on the hour, to 9:00PM the previous day?
Is Bill Gates personally fucking with me? Is there some joke I am not clued in on? Are there people, in the world, deriving satisfaction and utility from Windows 10, in any way at all, other than steam?
I've been using Linux for 5 years now, mainly debian, which I just installed on my computer, with ZERO problems and everything working as it should. Only recently did I try Windows 7 and then Windows 10. I cannot for the life of me figure out why anybody thinks Windows is a good idea.
When will Windows just die? The only thing Microsoft has ever done right is the Xbox 360 controller.
Fuck Microsoft, I hate this fucking company, and the operating system is a clusterfuck and frankly, a joke.
Try Arch. It just werks.
"Can anybody tell me why anybody would use this piece of shit operating system?"
Vidya games, of course.
>>55651296
I bet these people recommending arch are MS shill
What is the best editor? I used Atom before but it was slow af so I switched to Visual Studio Code. I'm loving it right now and I was surprised that I've never heard of such a great editor. Are there any other editors I shoud know of before settling with visual studio code?
>>55651158
Emacs, I love the unlimited power to it.
>>55651158
Notepad++ :^)
I wanna know if it is possible to root all android phones, or if there are certain phones that won't let you do it.
>>55651116
>I wanna know if it is possible to root all android phones, or if there are certain phones that won't let you do it.
Yes.
>>55651144
I'm just a bit confused. I just bought a cellphone, and I don't understand a lot about these little things. I got one of those country-specific models, so I can't find a lot of information about it.
>>55651116
No. Definitely not. There's a war back and forth about it. But there are plenty of phones that can't. Although a lot of times it's just a matter of getting enough people interested in looking for a crack. And then companies can release updates that invalidate the cracks and it goes back and forth. What phone do you have?
How does it feel to know that public torrents are on the verge of dying?
When TPB finally accepts DMCA rules in order to stop getting taken down, it's over.
How does this make you feel? Why aren't you taking the proper measures to avoid being left in the dust when public torrents finally become a thing of the past?
>>55651049
>tfw you're already invested in private trackers
guess i got in at the right time
>>55651093
This. I am so glad I did this.
Public torrents have been a cancerous wreck for well over a decade.
I feel like a pic related when trying to sell my old GTX 970. I have to convince people that 3.5 GB doesn't matter and Nvidia doesn't gimp their old cards.
It's the circle of jewing.

Simple question thread
>I'll start
I have lines in my vimrc that converts all tabs to spaces
Makefiles use tabs as separators
Does me being a space-indent fag make me unable to into makefiles?
Are there any solutions beside editing my vimrc every time / firing another text editor for the sole purpose of makefiles?
I'm really really bad at organizing my projects and directories so any advice would be appreciated.
I made a web service that has an Android app that connects to it. Right now they are part of two different git repositories. I have one repository for the web component, and one repository for the Android app component. Is this stupid? Should I make one repository for the entire thing, and just make one directory for the web component, and another directory for the Android app component?
Thank you all in advance.
I got a laptop that has a whitescreen and the guy i sent it said he cant fix it. Idc about fixing it how do i access the hdd? I had my porn there and some school shit. Anyway I can connect it to a secondary monitor?
