i5 or i7?
Yeah
>>55690534
meaningless question. There are 3 separate model lines and 6 generations of each that are called i5 and i7.
>>55690534
Yes
Why do Apple only sell Macbook Pros with i5 cores now? My early 2011 Pro has an i7 core. If I upgrade does that mean I have to have a weaker processor?
>>55690509
Because they all throttle down to core 2 duo tier performance either way, so it doesn't matter what CPU they cram in there.
>>55690647
I'm noob as fuck and had no idea, why does it throttle?
>>55690690
Terrible battery management, so Apple crams all macs with massive batteries, using up the space that usually goes toward a good cooling system, and then the poor cooling causes the entire thing to overheat and throttle to less than 1/3 its power.
It works out for people who do nothing but web browsing, but then those people could've just gotten a smaller lighter laptop with a weaker CPU that gets the same battery life with a smaller battery.

What's wrong with sony vegas? Except the fact that the piece of shit won't use any other media files than .mp4

>AMD cards aged better than nvidia
No, CPUs just got stronger, helping alleviate the horrible driver overhead on AMDs side.
There's a reason why HD7970 preforms so much better on an i7 6700k than it did on the i7 2600k.

>amdcucks on suicide watch
>>55690370
All this tells me is that AMD needs to steal nvidias driver team since their pus are just straight up better than nvidias.
>>55690449
Why do you think GCN is seeing such a performance gain on vulkan and dx12.
somehow they're still behind nvidia on weaker hardware
I also have a few questions about it
1.is it hard
2.where do I start
3.Do I have to be a math genius

Why does /g/ call everything it hates Botnet when it clearly doesn't know what botnet is?
bot·net
A network of private computers infected with malicious software and controlled as a group without the owners' knowledge, e.g., to send spam messages.
This. People who call everything botnet probaly are autists with arch and browse /mlp/
>>55690348
>A network of private computers infected with malicious software and controlled as a group without the owners' knowledge
So Windows 10 is indeed botnet
>>55690467
Actually, in the EULA it states exactly what's in it cause Microshaft knows it's users don't read it.
Any reason my monitor screen is pink with no icons?
you installed moebuntu?

How long have you been a homosexual?
Last week I explained my situation:
>Working with 4K RAW footage for a 25min Netflix show
>My biggest contract by far in my 4 years of career as a video producer
>Don't wanna fuck it up
>Want maximum performance possible
>For editing 4K RAW, I need high speed drives
So I ordered 2x 1TB SSDs to use for After Effects cache. Now to store and read the files, I need about ~7TB FAST storage.
You guys mentioned NAS, but told me that it will be really expensive.
So here is one on sale - Pic Related
I have zero knowledge and experience about NAS. Is this really gonna be fast? like 4 7200rpm drives in RAID 0? Is it going to 4 times faster than a single HDD?
>>55690224
A single 950 Pro will be almost 4 times faster than 4 hard drives in raid 0.
>>55690224
>I have zero knowledge and experience about NAS
It's pretty much just a compture running specialized software. If you build your own, it's gonna be faster for less money 100% of the time.
Something like FreeNAS is free to use and pretty great. If you use some form of raid, the read speeds will be very high to, so the drives don't really matter much for that aspect. I'd recommend HSGT for reliability though.

Looking to switch from MacBook Air.
Heard great things about Dell XPS 13 after replacing the wifi chip.
My priorities are portability, sharp screen, good keyboard and battery life.
Will be running Arch Linux, and operating mainly out of the command line with i3.
Is 4gbs of RAM enough? Any other opinions/alternatives?

just buy a fucking used thinkpad you literal meme fuckhead
>>55690172
portability - y
sharp screen - y
battery - ok
good keyboard - no
It's an okay keyboard, but not as good as the one on your macbook air, and the one on the air isn't primo.
How come I can use a sixaxis controller on Gnu+Loonix with no setup whatsoever, just out of the box while I have to install some kind of botnet on Windows?
>>55690161
By actually having drivers?
>>55690161
because someone wrote a scrpit for it in whatever emulator that is?
>>55690161
Windows is designed for people with jobs who want to do useful things.
Linux is designed so that autists can pretend to be useful by making things like sixaxis controllers work with the OS but never really accomplish anything meaningful.
Question to anyone running an AMD gpu and multi monitors.
If you're using 2 identical monitors, or running at the same specs (same resolution, same refresh rates, etc.), does it still raise the memory clocks to maximum value on idle?
I've been thinking about getting an AIB 480 (not necessarily pic related), but I keep hearing mixed responses about this, and TPU only tests different resolution monitors.
My 380 is always at maximum memory clock with two 75hz panels, but neither are the same resolution. I was wondering why it did that.
>>55690085
It's by design, apparently to prevent artifacting with different clock rates. But I cant find a definitive answer when both are equal.
>>55690043
Rx 480 owner here.
2x1080p60 monitors, memory clocks go up and down, seemingly at random.

>qBittorrent v3.3.6 was released. Minor bugfixes of v3.3.5. It also fixes crashes on launch for some Windows setups. It is a libtorrent problem. On Windows it uses libtorrent 1.0.9+git f716aef5 with commit 45cff5837f7b4af reverted as this one is causing the crashes. Investigation is ongoing. Mac OS X builds are ready too. Ubuntu PPA will follow.

What does /g/ think of the 7990 for use today? I do game, but I also wanted to make a pc with older parts for fun and see how much power I can squeeze out of it.
