I'm thinking about going to a hackathon tomorrow.

I'm a junior in CS, have most fundamental programming skills, and that's about it. The hackathon starts at 9 and ends at 5 the next day. Do I actually need to show up at 9 AM, or can I sort of just show up any time early in?

Also general information about hackathons is appreciated. Haven't worked on much outside of school.

Did a hackathon in college. Showed up to the opening ceremony and then did the entire thing in my apartment. There is no reason to stay. Just show up for the awards and judging

Would I need to show up for the opening at 9 AM? Just want to make sure I don't miss the whole thing, but do it comfortably too.

LaTeX, of course.

I downgraded from 10 to 8.1.

I just had enough of experience the constant crashes. I did really like Windows 10 features but I want to actually be able to use my Laptop.

So Im happy as it is though I wish there was a way to have the Windows 10 Snap Assist feature in windows 8.1

Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Update to 10, then do a clean install of 10.

Fixed all instabilities for me

Ok. Its annoying but I guess I should. Microsoft need to get their shit together though...
>>
>>55699073
It's not just Microsoft, I updated from Fedora 23 to Fedora 24 on my laptop and Wi-Fi stopped working. I've done dirty updates on my Nexus 5 and shit fucks up.

That's why I either never update, or I do a clean update with a fresh install.

But yeah, it would be nice if this shit didn't happen

Hell no. The only time I ever goofed up was when the processor got stuck to the fucking heatsink. Had to heat up the thing to remove it.

Yes.

Making the individual parts is hard.

No. Switch to a different operating system or succumb to mass information gathering in a way that hasn't even been done by the NSA yet.

>Windows 10 gathers an "excessive" amount of personal data on users, the French data authority has said in a formal notice.

What resources do you recommend for learning Java?

>>
A shotgun
>>

Because learning Java is suicide??
>>
>>55698271
What do you think you can learn about Java?

Just go full Object-oriented programming (OOP) paradigm and do some programs which solve some real task. For absolute beginner all you need is to download Java JDK SE and Eclipse Java edition. Then fire away. If you want to start GUI, don't waste your time on Swing, we have now FX or better yet, web applications.

Then read change logs from java 5 to current java (8?) to see what extra things you can do. Anyway reading books about programming isn't that good, but it can help you understand why is your code spaghetti. All that matters is to have experience in your CV or degree to get some starting position.

It doesn't matter what /g/ thinks about Java. Sure it is slow, bloated and with heavy negative aura because all the bad programmers are in Java. But it is easy as fuck, runs everywhere, debug is easy even on 3rd party libraries without original source and it pays well.

Once you manage to get into Java EE, your payment will make up for all the bad things. Remember, business doesn't care that to run Java they need much more expensive hardware when it has the label EE on it and costs more than 1M for the software alone.
