Is being a web developer from home a meme? I'm getting tired of all the corporate bullshit but I still enjoy the work itself. I'd be much happier to just work from home. I looked into toptal and it seemed lucrative, and I think I'm knowledgable enough to pass the interview.
Is it hard to get a remote job? Do you usually get an onsite job first and then negotiate a deal to work from home?

Hey guys,
my problem is that I sometimes don't recieve pictures send to me via whatsapp. The phones that sends those to me only recieve one tick (). So I thought at first it's a whatsapp server problem and they'll fix it in a few, but it's going on for a few weeks now. Anyone knows anything about it?

WhatsApp currently uses the Signal protocol for messages and a particular instantiation of the Noise protocol framework (Noise Pipes as in 1.0 using 25519_AESGCM_SHA256) for the server communication/transport protocol. Session keys/STRP master secrets for media and voice chats are sent over Signal.
What this probably means is that your phone is not able to retrieve the encrypted blob that has the encrypted media attachment from WhatsApp's hosted blob store. It might not be able to access it because it's blocked, or limited (Noise will mean it is blinded, but IP addresses of the servers used for the blob stores can still be rate-limited or blocked - or maybe the CDN sucks and is down in your area?).
The transport protocol used by WhatsApp doesn't yet try to evade blocking like that; you would need what I'm currently nicknaming WhiteNoise (blinded, IND-CCA2 Noise pipes) or BlackNoise (WhiteNoise over a protocol masquerading, steganographic layer) for that, plus of course a lot of IP addresses and metadata protection. I don't think WA have any plans for that right now, although if judges in Brazil keep fucking around with things, maybe their plans might change.

well lightning just hit something near me and my PC crashed with the message "no bootable device" on a completely black background no bluescreen or anything. It booted back up with no issues the reason im posting this is that i found it mildly amusing and wanted to know why this happens.

Your drive was demagnetized by the lightning.
You need to place your hard drive in the microwave for 10 second on high to re-magnetize it. Replace the drive back into your pc and plug the cables back in and boot your computer.
It happens from time to time especially when harddrives get older.

i wouldn't use latex to take notes. it's great for fidelity, but not great for speed. even with autocompletions and stuff, you're just going to be getting caught up thinking about how to create the next symbol or whatever.
just write it down with your hand, a pen or pencil, and a paper. if you really, really want to use this as a pretext to learn latex, then transcribe the notes later, or do your problem sets in latex.

I started learning programming in highschool, and became well read with Java, Python and C++. I by no means am a professional, but made some things I was really proud of, like a math expression parser and solver in C++, a program that downloads all the images of a thread on 4chan, given the URL, a program that uses markov chains to automatically read and shitpost threads on 4chan. But now I haven't written a line of code in months. What do I do?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for programming help.
Does anyone know of a simple to use, bare minimum IRC-bot? What's the recommend programming language for this task?
The only thing I'm looking to add to it is a search module.
For example I'm looking to do the following:
-Users can type for example "!search type=cyberware name=cyberears" into the channel and it will return information on "cyberears" using the category "cyberware"
-A general "!search" function for search a huge catalog via "name"
-Would work off a database (not sure what type of database is recommended)
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help as I've tried countless times to research this but wasn't able to find any templates specific for this task.
P.S. In case anyone is interested this is for a Shadowrun 5e database.

well sopel is using python. you can use python to access any SQL database, theres plenty tutorials out there. everything in-between is covered in the tutorial i linked.
