You're just jealous he has an AUG and you don't.
Is it good? Or at least competent compared to other programs?
>>55720992
Unfortunately no.
All good music software is proprietary and runs on Windows and Mac only.

Looking for a solid laptop that's going to last. Not a gamer. Need it for business and pleasure. Portability is key. Not tied to mac or windows. Superb movie watching experience and great battery life is what I'm after.

Hello /g/ooks
I have an application (actually scientific software) that I would like to name.
>It's genetics based
>Uses machine learning to predict the number of copies of a gene
That's a good enough description for a lay audience
Current name is gtABC (ABC is not the acronym. I'm protecting my identity if you so desire to look it up in github)
My boss wants to change it but I don't like his suggestion
I would like hear some ideas about naming apps.
>Meme names would be appreciated
>like something ends with 'r' but omits er
>Also something that's completely unrelated
>Similar names for similar apps are
>LUMPY
>Manta
>GenomeSTRIP
So I would like something similar to LUMPY, just a cool sounding name.
Any advice?
Lumer

>only real benefit is for watching movies in bed
What does /g/ use their tablets for? I think this is one bandwagon I can't get on.

Carputer. GPS with pre-loaded maps, music, videos, can tether to my phone if needed, and I use a Bluetooth ODB2 module to make sure the car isn't acting up.

Now there's a word I haven't seen in a long time.

Needs to be durable, have room for lots of stuffs, and hold a laptop. I want something that'll last me a good while and look stylish.

After reading a post earlier on /g/ about WEBP, i tried it out for myself. File sizes are WAY smaller, and the image quality is about the same.
I implemented WEBP encoding on my local intranet web app that serves hentai manga. The difference is very noticeable in image rendering. Pages load far faster than before (PNG rendering), and not much difference in quality.
This new image format needs more support.

>lossy files are smaller than lossless files
This is the part when we stop the presses right?
>>55720851
Apparently it's better than other lossy file types as well, but I've never tried using them
>>55720851
>PNG is lossless.
Fuck, I did not know.
N/m I'll try using JPEG as well.
Is this the holy grain of comfy ergonomic computing?
Reminds of a hipster version of the douche game programmer from Grandmas boy.
This looks really uncomfortable.
Why can't I just curl up in a chair and program while slouching?

Eazy. Avoid meme letters like "Z" and "K" and meme slangs like "GAMING", "PRO", and "PRO GAMING". Look at the Z170-E. Guessing on my instincts, its not some red-black memed up shit.
anyone has experience working on the laptop?
I'm thinking on buying an ultrabook so I can learn on the train, but it all hinges on it actually working out. It's a crowded train, but I can guarantee to get a seat most of the times.
I usually just read scripts on my smartphone, but when i make notes I have to cram out pen and paper and writing is slow and hard to write, read and edit. Also this way I could bring the ultrabook to work and study there too while making neat, quick notes. Since I study CS I could also do other things with the ultrabook. The train part is crucial since I spend 2h a day just commuting.
I cant find anything online, some input would be appreciated.
TL;DR laptop on crowded train for studing yes/no + experience
I doubt you need to spend as much as an ultrabook costs for making notes and practicing coding.
Get one of the small Thinkpads or a similarly cheap netbook.
>>55720714
dude found a few for 300-400 that's why im considering it in the first place

Programming during your train travel is viable if the length of the journey allows it. Preferably your ride takes at least 45 minutes or longer without interruptions, otherwise you're just not going to get into it.
If that checks out, just get yourself a laptop your comfortable with. Programming doesn't require you to have a beefy laptop, in fact I programmed a few of my tools on the train during one of my internships. My laptop? A toshiba NB200 netbook. These days I use a Dell Latitude E6410 though. The NB200's display didn't exactly prevent sun-glare.

motivation
Hey /g/, I need some guidance.
I was thinking about buying pic related as my graphics card. Originally I wanted to use a 4k monitor though many have stated it wouldn't be able to support 4k. Though now I've heard news about a 1080 ti and a Titan x and z, I was wondering if i should buy those instead if i wanted to pursue 4k gaming. Money isn't really a problem.
>>55720520
If money isn't a problem then buy quad SLI Titan XP's, ya dumb cunt.
>>55720583
>mfw quad Titan x would cost me like 4 grand
Jeez Louis. Is this really the only to achieve games on high graphics at 4k with 60 fps. Also I have no idea about this but isn't using multiple graphics cards a problem with some games?
If you want to play 4K then you need 2 1080, otherwise it will be shit. No single card can pull 4K right now. The new Titan might be able to, but sure as hell wont get past 60 fps either.

Hey. Tell me /g/, what's going on in the browser world these days?
I'm out of the loop because I've been using Palemoon for the past 3 years, so far not giving a single fuck about IE, Edgy, Chrome/ium, Oprah and Firefox. How is Chrome and Firefox doing these days?
>>55720425
cool racoon, dude
Chrome is great, Install it.
>>55720425
>s Chrome and Firefox doing these days?
awful Chrome just runs like shit now and Firecux is more concerned about some crusade for diversity rather than making a non shit browser
