Hey /g/.
What happened to the days when Malware/Viruses/Worms/etc were about having fun and fucking peoples shit up? Why is everything now a ransomware with the same kind of payload?
What happened to people having fun?
I blame pajeet, but seriously I'm assuming people started to realize that money could be made. I don't make computer viruses nor do I know how but today it seems like there's more security to get through just to say ha ha I messes with your computer.
tl;dr money, and the outcome isn't worth the effort put into it.
>>55726378
*messed, my bad
>>55726157
Dunno, some people saw how it could be profitable.
>having fun
Those fart buttons back in the day would pop up every time and I would click it after I finish my session.
because unetbootin sucks
>windows
If it's for a Linux distro, they're all hybrid ISOs so you can just write them straight to the drive with win32diskimager or a win32 binary of dd. If it's for a Windows ISO, they have their own shitty tool for that.
depends what you want to boot?
If you want windows, just use their damn microsoft creation tools.
Desktop Thread since the other auto-heavened.
this one will too. watch
>>55726218
Thought it was only if you put "Desktop Thread" in the name field.
>>55726161
Thnx bby
Literally has been 2 years since I touched Linux Distros. Which is the stablest distro out there currently in your opinion?
No such thing as a stable distro. Only way to acheive stability is to use an old most reliable version of whatever distro you're using.
>>55726181
Well shit. That is why I quit using linux 2 years ago.. What is the closest distro to being stable, as in, not crashing every few minutes?
debian stable
I've been using project fi on my nexus 5x for the last 6 months and mostly it has been great. The only big downsides for me are the no email portal (cannot send emails to my project fi number like with any other service) and since i am using my old google voice number as my project fi number i cannot view my texts on my desktop unless i use the hangouts app (which is complete shit imho. Anyone have any work around's for these annoying problems?
>>55726053
>i cannot view my texts on my desktop unless i use the hangouts app
you can turn the chat in your gmail window to hangouts without needing to use the hangouts app. Not sure if you'll like that any better, but at least you don't need that stupid app.
>>55726487
not the desktop app that i think is shit. actually im coming to like the new ui for that. its the phone app i think is shit. messenger is just better on phone
>unironically using memefi
Whats your excuse for not knowing Lojban?
>>55726039
I don't know what it is
>>55726327
/thread
>>55726039
No one uses it.
>tfw using 10- to 15-year-old printers because I can find third party ink dirt cheap online
>every time something goes wrong, I try to replace the parts or get a used model
>tfw realizing eventually, there will be no parts available
>tfw I am starting to learn how my printer models work and how to fix problems myself (like screwed up print heads)
What does /g/ do to save on printer ink?
>>55726029
>printing
kill urself
>>55726029
>What does /g/ do to save on printer ink?
Buy the latest chinkshit reverse engineered refillable cartridges and never update the printer firmware
For lasers the older ones hardly ever get fucked and it's easy af to refill the toners
>>55726029
I just get my cartridges refilled. The printer nags that the cartridge is empty but it prints anyway. Why does it feel like I'm revealing new information of oblivious people?
/g/, how can a guy teach his parents internet security/safety?
I am removing a virus off their PC for the millionth time but I don't know how to go about imposing rules on them without seeming like a dick. thing is, I am legitimately beginning to worry about their shit, they haven't changed email provider or password ever, I am afraid something might happen to them
pic related, I booted into safe mode and opened the image in paint its the typical encryption ransomware virus. looks like they run a few shell scripts to force chrome open to display only that image.
what do I do /g/? have any of you dealt with this problem?
>>55725997
I installed uBlock on my mom's pc.
Setup a firewall and just block everything accept Facebook. Pretty much only thing old people do online... And maybe the emails
>>55725997
Umatrix, ublock, tell them not to download stuff.
for starters, linux does not have a driver for my ethernet nic: Atheros AR8161.. it thinks it does, it shows that it's connected but the internet doesn't work. all of the tutorials for setting it up are 4 years old.. and by now, shit should work out of the box
then i try installing playonlinux... i go into the software store and it's not there.. so i try installing it via the command line, and it freezes on some windows font menu
tl;dr why is linux so terrible?
>>55725994
ayyyyyyy
it did happen
click on your terminal and hit tab to select the ok and hit enter
>>55726038
thnx, now how to get this damn ethernet to werk..
>>55725994
Download windows 8.1 iso from MS with the media creation tool and use microsoft toolkit to activate it then install classic shell and enjoy the best OS to date.
fuck linux and windows 10.
Does /g/ use twitter? Is there any good technology related people to follow or am I too late to the bandwagon?
@thegrugq
Go to who he is "following" and harvest from there.
Twitter is cancer.

Basically I've decided to learn programming and have realized something about how I learn.
I fully understand the concepts and syntax, but when it comes down to writing actual code I struggle and feel really stuck.
Did anyone else experience this when learning and how did they overcome it?
Also is this something that is happening because I am retarded?
I am wiling to put in the time to learn but maybe I am just not cut out for programming.
Thanks
What are you trying to create, anon?

-GeForce GTX 750ti
-ADD FX-6 core 3.5GHz processor
-8GB DDR3 Memory
-Gigabyte AM3+ Ultra durable motherboard
That's the computer I got on Christmas of 2014. It's now 2016 and Computer graphics are changing drastically, so I'm upgrading to a GTX 1060. Can you guys tell me how many watts this PC uses, with 2 1920x1080 monitors? I'm wondering if I need a better PSU for the 1060. Also, let me know if you need any more information on the computer. Thanks!
>>55725810
1. You gave us the brand of the motherboard, we want the name if it were even relevant.
2. You have to tell us your current power supply before you ask if you need a new one.
Also try to not make it so obvious that you're underage.
>>55726036
My apologies. I thought it would amount to something. I don't have the greatest knowledge in hardware, I've always focused a little bit more on the software itself. I currently have a 500w PSU. I'm on vacation at the moment so I cannot check the brand.
And no, I am not under age. I turned 22 last Monday.
>turned 22
ID or it didnt happen
That moment when you realize programming your own personal projects is a waste of time when you can hire thirsty freelancers to do it for you for cheap.
>brb spending time with my wife and kids instead of wasting away in front of a computer screen all day
>be me, unemployed and looking for programming job.
>have no degree to put on my resume, just an empty github account.
>go to freelancer.com and hire pajeets to fill up my github with resume fodder for $50/project.
>start applying for jobs with my github account on my resume.
>finally land a sweet gig developing mobile apps.
>only problem is, I'm lazy and would rather work on personal projects.
>go to freelancer.com
>hire my most trusted pajeets to do all the work I'm supposed to do for $50 a day.
>mfw it's been 2 years now and I spend most of my time getting paid to work on personal projects because I'm a slave master and the pajeets are my slaves.
>>55725716
I'd rather pay them to fuck my wife for cheap while I have fun programming. Doesn't sound like programming is for you.
You need to actually do the work to acquire the skill to know what you should be paying other people to do for you.

What is there to think about? It's just a shitty 3d render and a few leaks by some literally who tech company, probably not even close to accurate.
Look at the leak page:
>and will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Top kek. These people have no idea what they're talking about.
