So I know data structures, some basic algorithms and mathematical modelling in Java, Matlab and Haskell. However, I have fuck all idea how to actually DEVELOP SOFTWARE. I use Matlab and Haskell all the time for scientific computing and basic shits 'n giggles, but I have no idea how to make a user interface, how to automatically import data from the web or other applications, how to get my program to interact with other apps, stuff like that.

What are the best places I can learn this, that don't begin with "hurr this is how a for loop works"?

What are they doing these days?

Their niche was low powered x86 CPUs.

wtf is this. Deadbeef will literally not advance to the next track by itself. I cannot click the next track button; it does nothing. I have to manually click the next track for it to play. seriously wtf.

I do not want newest flagships but something in this price range 300-400 euros or so. My attention was grabbed by HTC M9 so far, I liked how it feels in hand, has no lag than other phones in similar price range. I know that m9 is quite expensive yet I am willing to spend more if it is the best of all the rest.

Also interested in opinion on Nexus 5X. I am totally not interested in moto g series phones and Xiomi and similar, since they are impossible to buy here.

Another phone, OnePlus 3 also hard to find despite being pretty cheap and high spec.

Please offer your choices with good arguments.

My priority is build quality and longevity of the battery (SoT). My current galaxy is losing 1 percent each minute I spend on the internet browsing.

Hard mode - no samsung phones.

I have an M9 and a 5x.

The 5x is flat out better excluding the IR blaster and speakers.

HTC one m8 is better than one m9. It also drain less battery and is cheaper to buy.

I'm trying to code a sort of legal man-in-the-middle that with artificially create game commands. I'm looking at packets right now, and here's what I've got for movement in a direction tied to a keyboard press.

(LEFT) - FE 7B 00 02 00 0B 0E 0E 16 77 77 76 E4 C2 C2 C2 06

(RIGHT - E2 6C 00 02 00 0B 0E 0E 12 F4 F4 F3 E3 C5 C5 C5 02

(UP) - 49 7F 00 02 00 0B 0E 0E 0F 88 88 87 0D 00 00 00 FF

(DOWN) - 3E 52 00 02 00 0B 0E 0E 10 C5 C5 C4 87 0E 0E 0E 00

Clearly 00 02 00 0B 0E 0E is just part of the packet's wrapper, and is constant regardless of the key pressed. I'm trying to figure out what the first two bytes represent, as they don't form a pattern and change from packet to packet. Any other dissections of this are welcome. I can post more captured sample packets if needed.

It should also be noted my networking kung-fu is very weak, and I could be entirely misunderstanding what's going on here.

Guy who knows nothing about video editing here. I want to gradually blur someone's face, with as specific a mask as possible, as they're moving closer to the camera. Anyone know how hard that is, and what free program I could use for it?
Pic related is what I don't want it to look like.

Use the WonderShare Video Editor. It has an one-click feature for doing exactly that.
>>
>>55703067
Use a gaussian kernel with a sigma increasing as a function of the width of the face. You can use complex face detection methods like those in opencv, or you can just track the amount of face-colored pixels.

What do you recommend to someone who wants a laptop without a compromise?

Requirements):
>13" amazing display (Full HD or better, good colors)
> battery 7h+
> quiet
> SSD 250gb is enough
> aluminum body, backlit comfortable keyboard

I am torn between Macbook Pro and Dell XPS 13". The person has their own small marketing company, travels to clients a lot, has never had anything from Apple and is mostly oblivious to the brand, mostly wants functionality.

I'd get the MBP solely because it doesn't have the XPS flaws.
>>
Hmm I wasn't aware of these: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/3spvho/list_of_known_issues_with_the_xps_15_9550/

> 4k panel viewing angle bad - colors go to red/violet when viewed from top and the side.
> Space bar does not register.
> Fans kicking in when only browsing internet or otherwise under a low CPU load
> Screen flickering
> Display driver crashing randomly

Then I suppose there is no competition, these all go directly against what the acquaintance of me needs.

I was entertaining the idea of a budget build centered around the smaller EVGA 1060 SC, when I saw all these Skylake bundles and such on Amazon. Pic related you can get an i5 6600k, Z170-P mobo, 8gb ram and a thermaltake cooler, for £380 for example. I'm curious if anyone on /g/ has experience, positive or negative with these kinds of bundles, and if it, in your opinion is actually good value to buy something like this.

When I built my first computer, I used a bundle for a few of the pieces (I.e. the motherboard, ram, PSU but I ended up buying a better one after, case, and heatsink which I also replaced with liquid cooling.) I had a good experience, and bought it a few years ago off tiger direct. I would recommend it.
