What am I in for, /g/? Honestly doesn't look too bad so far.
I've only used FreeBSD in a server environment, and it's pretty damn neato.

Good documentation and general cleanliness.
I can't think of any Linux distribution that has something like /usr/local

So /g/, how or who introduced you to the world of technology?
I want to hear your stories and how your pilgrimage into tech began.
If you wandered across technology on your own, I wanna hear that too!

My parents got a free Windows 98 computer system out of one of those timeshare scams. They didn't want it, so I got it. Used it regularly until around probably 2003.
>>55752513
That's actually pretty neat, did you keep it in a good shape or did you run it to the ground?

For gaming, no?
Why don`t they make a CPU with a integrated heat sink? No more hassles with thermal paste that way.
>>55752321
Because stock coolers are shit, and thermal paste isn't a hassle.
>>55752549

They just werk. Integrated heat sinks would mean a complete redesign anyway.

Yes it is

Qi charging is not bad. Fast charging is a little more debateable.
Most people keep phones 2-3 years with moderate charge cycles. Both inductive charging and quick charging are fine for this.
That being said when they're on sale you can get quick charge 2.0 certified chargers for less than $10/each AND they're much less likely to be dislodged by bumping the phone, so it's overpriced for a gimmick for desktop use.

I'm sure it just resolved to 192.168.1.1 so you'd get your router's config page. Other manufacturers do the same thing.

I have 16 of these 500GB seagate drives that are just sitting here.
I'm thinking of putting them into good use. I'm a video editor and need fast drives. Is it a good idea to get a ... x bay ( 8 < x < 20 ) RAID enclosure and use them this way?
I have a MSI X99s SLI Plus mobo, so I can use eSata.

So, me being me, i wanted to build a micro computer using a raspberry pi zero. For this i wanted to use a 5000mah 5v 2.1a power bank which would connect to a usb hub that goes into a female usb to micro usb adapter to power the pi zero also i was going to get a usb fan.
The pi i would connect to my tv, this way i could use it whenever i wanted without having to buy a monitor. I have a cable that would work with the micro hdmi on the pi then connect to a mini hdmi in my tv.
My question is, would this setup work?
Op here.
I meant to say, Mini to full size HDMI.
>>55751991
to put this in english: you want to use a rpi zero as a computer and hook it up to your television, and power it via a battery? or am i getting it wrong?
I heard that Raspberry Pies aren't very good for media.
Hey /g/,
I've got too much time on my hands, and decided that today would be the day I do something that I've always said I would do- Remake every shitty "How to" guide I run into on YouTube when trying to fix an issue.
What things piss you off the most in these sorts of videos? I'll start
> Heavy accent that makes it difficult to understand instructions
> 7 minute video for something that takes 30 seconds
> No editing or pre-planning was cleary
> "Hey guys, so today I'm going to be showing you..."
> "Alright this should work and....okay, let's try something else."

This is just stupid, the youtube page already lists your name and even adds a button on the video with yuor name, no need to add another 10-20 seconds to the video with an annoying animation which adds nothing to the content of the video. If you're worried about it being stolen and added to another site without your consent then watermark it. At least that way I don't waste 20 seconds watching crap I don't want to see.
