Hello, people of /g/, does anyone use one of these media streamer things? I'm looking for ones that play WebM, they are useless pieces of junk if they can't play WebM.
Anything less than 80$? it's not looking too good and there aren't any reviews anywhere of these products, I didn't know they existed until recently.

i'm using it mainly to watch movies i downloaded and to look at porn, not stream hipster music. i thought the WebM part made that obvious.

Windows 10 or 7?

I have that one friend who always tries to talk everyone of our friends into upgrading to 10. He boasts how much better it is and how smoother it runs, but upon asking him he never has any real advantages to tell.

Now I've been seeing a lot of threads defending either Win 7 and 10, but posters usually go full retard after a few posts, shitposting and samefagging all over the place.

I just want a simple comparison and pros and cons. Is Win 10 really spying on your data that hard? And if yes, haven't they been already with Win 7? I'm confused.

Oh-My-GOD!
Jojo respects paid, on to your question op.
Unless you have tools that just won't work or your job is in an environment were win 10 is mandatory stick to 7.
Yes the spying is that bad, the updates can and will fuck you up in the middle of doing something. And dir 12 is mostly gonna go the way of the dodo what with vulcan/open gl etc and all.
Za warldlo! Annon out.

Kromtech is harassing a 14 year old youtuber for critizising their shit product MacKeeper, which I am sure you are aware is a total scam.

They threaten to sue him, claiming he is "harassing" the company. They said that if he didn't take down his videos ir would cost him $60k.

We should let them feel the Streisand effect desu. It's becoming a big case in Norwegian media.

>14 year old youtuber
That alone should cost him 60k in compensations for mental harm done to people unfortunate enough to see his videos.
Also >Norwegian
>>
>>55763939

Fuck off /pol/. What matters here is that a company that basically is a giant fraud is threatening critics (they have done this before) with bullshit claims.

This is a typical tactic of frauds and should not be tolerated

My hard drive is dying and I'm gonna have to buy a new one, very soon. The thing is, my Win 7 came preinstalled when I bought the PC years ago, but I haven't got a disk. Is there a way to transfer my Win 7 to the new HDD?

Clone the entire hdd to another one.
>>
>>55763749
Hm, I guess that could work. But I really wouldn't mind a fresh one, the old is at least 5 years old and it shows. Can't I extract the windows key from somwhere the system, then re-intall the whole thing from a clean iso?
>>
>>55763630
THere are ways to do that, yes, look on MDL. But you can also use a 7 SP1 iso and DAZ Loader

Should everything go in ~/.config or would that be just being cucked by freedesktop.org?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Yes.

It's apart of the elder god Linux setup where your put your home directory on an entirely different partition/ssd altogether and then whenever you need to reinstall linux or install a new distribution altogether then you use that existing home directory that has all of your custom configurations that you've painstakingly modified to your preference.
>>
>>55763606
Nah just make your program splash a hundred files all over $HOME.
Also don't forget to create non-hidden directories like "My Videos" or "Data" in $HOME.
Users love that
>>
Why not just have skeleton files in /etc then manually copy things over to your directory of choice to configure them? You then invoke the program with the new config, which would be in your bashrc.

Also lets talk about this new concept.
What's the use case of SSDs on GPU, note that it isn't being used as system storage, it talks directly to the GPU and not the host.
>>
>>55763575
I'll just paste this.

So users now have a fairly coarse block addressable space on their professional GPUs, what’s the big deal? You don’t have to traverse the system PCie bus, the driver stack, CPU, back over the bus, and to storage to get data now so the impossible is now possible. Better yet the CPU overhead of sending data to the GPU is now gone as is the bus congestion brought on by streaming large textures from plentiful system memory to precious GPU memory But what about these benefits? The first demo AMD is said to be showing is a use case for movie editing and cleanup on the GPU. What is the issue here you may ask, this is old hat and has been done on the CPU for years. Some GPUs can even assist it without slowing things down in the process, so what does SSG add? How about 8K movie streaming and cleanup in realtime. At 96FPS. Sure you can do this with traditional methods but the best of them will run the same task at 17FPS. AMD is happy to point out this is a 5.6x speedup or so for the cost of two consumer SSDs. Before SSG, possible but slow. After SSG, fast enough for most users. The impossible, realtime 8K cleanup, is now possible. Hugely complex and highly detailed CAD models that took the better part of an hour to load up and decompress will still take the better part of an hour to load up and decompress on an SSG GPU based system. Why bother? Because it takes the better part of an hour to load and decompress the first time, then it can stay resident on the GPU’s flash storage.
>>
>>55763614
The second time it should take seconds. If you look at the cost of a modern automotive or aerospace engineer’s time, SSG is a no-brainer, any CTO would be foolish not to deploy this tech ASAP, the ROI would be measured in weeks. It really is that important for the professional graphics space and what starts there trickles down to the consumer space in short order. A single 4x version with 128 or 256GB of space on board is easily within the price range of high-end consumer GPUs and it would effectively wipe out most texture size limits. Streaming texture hacks, brilliant as they are, would be unnecessary, drivers simplify, CPU load goes down, usable PCIe bandwidth goes up while PCIe latency plummets because of congestions relief.

As an amateur designer, I hope never.
Making a flat design requries UI design skills and little effort in actual graphics design. Making a skeuomorphic design also requires skills in graphics design, therefore we would have more apps looking like shit.
Look back at what amateurish or open source applications looked like before the "flat meme". That's right, shit.
