What are you working on /g/?
nothing, my development as a programmer is stagnant.
python

Moving data from point A to point B.
How much of a performance boost in gayms can I expect, when overclocking my Q8300 and GTX550TI?
Will an overclock to 3GHz make any significant difference?
>>55796308
Why don't you find out?
With 550ti, expect maybe low settings 1080p @ 40-60fps.
>>55796317
Need to upgrade my cpu cooler first, wanted to know if its worth it before upgrading.
>>55796308
That's a nice bootleneck there my m8.
>spend ridiculous amounts of money on 'green power' and never even brag about it
>can't even spend 2 more cents per cpu to give their customers significantly better temps by using a proper copper contact pad on skylake
i dont understand.
Intel sells 20 billion CPUs each quarter those 2 cents are huge
>>55796347
>20 billion CPUs each quarter
>>55796212
>20 billion CPUs
>7 billion people on planet
wat?
What program(s) would you suggest for recording part of a video being played through a media player (such as MPC)? Basically I want to record a small clip from a movie
Unregistered Hypercam 2
>>55796164
just trim the video file you fucking doofus
There's a script for mpv that trims a clip out of the current video file using ffmpeg.
Is the gtx 1060 really worth £240 when a 4gb rx 480 is only £200?
>>55796152
the 480 4gb version you mean.
Only one winner really isnt there?
>>55796152
The really nice thing is that here in the usa the 1060 and 480 have the exact same price to performance ratio ar around 2.6.
So here anyway it doesnt mater which one you buy. The 1060 is more powerful but costs more. Though nvidia isnt riping you off
The GTX 1060 is cheaper once you consider the money saved by lower power consumption.
What improvements can I make with the least amount of money?
>>55796122
SSD.
>>55796122
Gtx 1060.
You're currently suffering massively from driver overhead in any game not using dx12/vulkan.
That's assuming you use your pc for gaming since its an AMD cpu and gpu.
>>55796122
new CPU
No fast.com thread?
third world country
>>55796100
Meh, not too bad for Australia.
Omg I thought it'd be a LOT lower :D
Someone is offering me this with cash for my 980ti.
Is the Nano really such an unwanted good?
>>55796024
He probably threw the power control out the window or tried to OC it. No sane person would drop one unless it was busted.
It depends on what you want m8. You lose vram, and overall performance. The R9 Nano is meant to compete with the gtx 980 NON TI.
Isnt it loud, hot, and doesnt overclock well?
>>55796055
>Isnt it loud, hot, and doesnt overclock well?
1/3
It's actually very quiet, and runs considerably cool for the performance. Obviously this card is targetted to be low power, low noise, and hella performance. Because of this target AMD placed strict power control targets as to avoid this thing damaging itself. So it runs on fairly low power too, even more so with FRTC enabled and set at something reasonable.
Dream second hand cost effective pc build thread. I'm gonna buy these when I get a job edition.

>Hey /g/ I need recommendations and prices on secondhand parts. I've saved up some GBP and USD from my paper rout.
Just got $250 from selling a Ps4 I got as a gift and never touched. Want to blow it all on tech shit. What /g/unk would you buy?
>>55796005
i'd buy a new pc monitor
>>55796005
> never touched
> Want to blow it all on tech shit
You could've installed Linux on your PS4. /g/ af.
install gentoo and put the $250 into AMD stocks.
Does Windows 8.1 spy on you as much as 10?
pic unrelated
>>55795978
What should i install then? I'm currently on 10 but all this spying is getting ridiculous.
>>55795969
spying is spying
>>55795969
Nope.
I've got around ~20Mbits from my DIY NAS. Is that good speed? The processor maxes out at 100% while transferring at this rate.
>>55795962
My chink SBC can do almost 4 MB/s even 5 sometimes.
>mobo: maximus hero viii (3)
>unplug my devices so they cant wake my PC
>put PC to sleep
>wakes up after 1 minute
What the fuck did I miss? Is there some fuckng BIOS "feature" making this happen?
>>55795956
i have magic packets disabled, (even have the ethernet cable unplugged)
all devices set to being unable to wake the pc (and have even unplugged them as well)
gone through task sched and shut down all the automated bullshit
there's literally no reason my pc should be waking up after sleep... yet it always fucking does, sometimes 5 minutes after sleep, sometimes 5 hours. /lastwake doesn't show what woke the p.c
tl;dr WINDOWS FUCKING SUCKS
>>55795987
It went to sleep now that i plugged the ethernet cable but this will kill the connector after a while
Fuck Microsoft, I'm on Windows 8.1 though
Your computer is trying to tell you that you should kill yourself
Was the new wave of VR a meme /g/?
>>55795940
Nope. You really cant tell what it feals like from watching youtube videos of it. Having used the Vive myself i can tell you it is really fuckin cool. All you have to do to make a good Vive game is give somone an excuse to put on the Vive, the rest does itself.
I think the next generation of VR whenether that is (8 years or so? console mode?) will be when it gets really good, hopefully the cable problem will be solved by then and the game devs will have had time to figure out how to make good VR games.
>>55795940
I've yet to hear anyone who has actually tried VR say they think it's a meme, or a fad. It's not going to replace gaming on a monitor, but it will be another thing that exists alongside it. It also has a lot of nongaming applications, including travel and previewing architecture and the like.
>>55796060
The problem with getting rid of the cord is that wireless video sucks. Normally I would write that issue off, with the assumption that the tech will improve and solve that, but that gets complicated when you consider that the next obvious step for VR is improved resolution, and I think graphics processing tech will advance much faster than wireless video tech, which already can't keep up with low enough latency for VR to feel right. I don't like the cord either, but I'm fairly certain it will be a while before we can stop using cables.
The current VR is just modern waggle sticks with an overly expensive headset. It would be fine if it were being marketed as a niche gaming device, which it is. Unfortunately, the money that companies are pumping into this thing in order to viral it like the next big thing makes me think it's going to fall very, very hard. The headsets are too expensive and require an even more expensive desktop just to run it properly. There's still no real games for it. And people on Steam are already starting to hate the thing before it's really out because Valve keeps shilling VR shit on the store with no way to filter it. I think VR is going to end up in the "woulda, shoulda, coulda" bin with the Dreamcast, the Ouya, and others.
VR is never going to really be a household product until we start getting holodecks or matrix plugs in our living rooms.
what
jesus christ why are we dealing with all these fucking incompetent windows users?
>>55795836
Is there any other kind of Windows user?
