If Arch Linux didn't exist, Linux would have twice the desktop market share it has now.

I've got 400€ and an i7, 8GB ram and mobo. What do you suggest me?
Buying a 1060 (optional: and a chink VR headset)
Waiting for more cash
Waiting for 1070's price drop (MSRP = 350€)
Other
While waiting, I'll use the PC for programming, but I want to play videogames, possibly in VR
>>55812493
the 1070 won't see a price drop until the RX 490 comes out.
>>55812503
I think that either Black Friday or Christmas or Thanksgiving deals will bring some 1070s at their MSRP, don't you?
>>55812503
So you suggest me to wait for more money or to just bite the bullet and get a 1060?
This is my daily driver for a few months now. Going well. Installed in like ten minutes. Should I even stress myself out installing Arch Linux?

I just purchased a used laptop and when I booted it up for the first time and searched around through the task manager I stumbled on 4gigs of cp being uploaded to a server. My question is how do I use the data I snatched before the upload was finished to bag me a pedo?
Information I took includes
>Mac address and IP address as well as some Google accounts in a text file that were also being sent to the server.(sloppy pedo rings)
I will not upload cp. I have enough trouble on my hands because my girlfriend freaked out and called the police. So, I need quick answers.
Install Slackware
Forward the info you grabbed plus the name of the seller to the feds, I guess?
What should I upgrade first?

>>55812085
Your R7.
Better AMD CPUs will come out later
8GB are totally fine.
>>55812218
8GB is insufficient for normal use, unless you're a grandma. OP should buy additional 8GB, ideally if he has a single 8GB stick he should buy 3 8GB sticks to fill up the remaining RAM slots.
I installed Debian but I don't know which packages download

The future I see is OP still sucking nigger dicks.
Remember when people used to feel special for having a 1680x1050/16:10 monitor?
What happened?
>>55811674
16:10 is god tier it's just not widely available
Recently acquired one for use with laptop, such a massive subjective upgrade.
>>55811674
I'm using a 1680x1050 monitor right now, definitely sticking with 16:10 when I upgrade.

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Who else purchased Windows 10 today?
I did and it is worth every penny. I'm glad that I have not taken the free version because it is obvious that free systems spy on you, as with Android.
>>55811608
>free upgrade and paid version are literally the same builds
>>55811608
Bruv, anything spies on you, bought or not
Unless you have enterprise/server and disable some stuff.
I know some entites like businesses/organizations can't use pirated software due to high legal risks
But if you are a regular home user why waste $100+ when a free activation is a few clicks away?
I have been using pirated windows for like 10 years there is literally no difference with a legit version

Whoever thought the non-removable back was a good idea is a fuckhead. That shit is ugly and easily scuffed, decreasing the lifespan by a huge margin. Having to use a case instead for my kevlar look is a disgrace. It looks hidEOUS

Hi guys,
My current laptop for professional use can't keep up anymore and I've decided to get a new one.
Budget is around € 1.000 exclusive VAT.
My requirements are:
1) 15" or 17" screen, preferably 17" though (I also use a 27" external screen as second monitor)
2) Mobile i5 or i7 processor with multiple cores (HQ versions) of new generation
3) 8 GB or 16 GB RAM. I don't think it will matter now but 16 GB might increase lifespan as memory demand increases in the future
4) I know most professional laptops use built-in graphics but I've noticed that when you use dual HD screens and have a videoclip running on 1 screen and normal applications on the other screen the intel HD graphics get into trouble. So I would like to have a mid-range graphics card like a 950M or 960M
5) Has to have an SSD drive of at least 100gb. If m2 is really faster than the normal SSD's then of course preferably that version.
6) Has to have total capacity of at least 256gb but preferably twice that or more.
7) Needs to have HDMI, 3-4 USB ports etc all the regular stuff
I stumbled upon the HP pavillion 17 ab000nd as shown below (sorry for the dutch but the specs should be easy to understand)
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/551635/hp-pavilion-17-ab000nd/specificaties/
and the Asus Vivobook Pro n752vx
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/484669/asus-vivobook-pro-n752vx-gc084t-be/specificaties/
Would you consider these good choices or are there alternatives around the same price? Please do note that the shown price on this website is including 21% vat so they are within the budget of € 1.000
I have a light preference for the pavillion as it has a slightly better graphics card and a 7200 RPM HD + m2 SSD while the Asus only has a normal SSD and 5400 RPM HD. The issue is that Belgians normally use an AZERTY keyboard which isn't available on the pavillion. I type blindly and my current laptop is also QWERTY so perhaps I shouldn't let that decide.
What does /g/ say?
