Its not like AMD is that much cheaper surely they could offer a bit more

Today I was asked in an interview, " how many golf balls can fit into a school bus?" I asked him why is he asking me this. He just said it's part of the interview. I told him probably at least 20,000. I feel like I failed it. What should I have said?

that's what I figured but I don't even know the dimensions of a golf ball out a school bus. How am i suppose to come up with an estimate without this information?

Hi /g/, I bought a BuffaloNAS to store a couple hundred gigs of reference pictures and videos and I'm finding that it is absolutely shit slow.

It takes an hour to move 100mb to and from it, opening a photo located on it is like a 2 minute wait... Did I fuck up somehow? Is it just a shitty NAS or do I need to configure it differently?

Any other recommendations or ideas?

Describe your network setup.
>>
>>55827589
All my devices are wireless but the NAS is hooked up via ethernet. I have 80mpbs down, so hella fast wireless speeds. Linksys router, time warner cable modem
>>
>>55827608
>All my devices are wireless but the NAS is hooked up via ethernet.

So NAS to router is wired, and router to PC is wireless? That could be a big reason. WiFi adds a lot of latency.

That's nowhere near enough info though. Your linksys router is gigabit? Is the link between your buffalo and your linksys gigabit? The link between your linksys and time warner also gigabit?

So I've got a Dell Latitude E6400 that has a Core2 Duo T9600 running at 2.8GHz with 4GB of RAM, but I'd like to put a better CPU in it.

Is it compatible with any of the Core2 Quad or Core2 Extreme CPUs? It uses Socket P (PGA478) and Intel lists three quad core CPUs:
Core2 Quad 9000
Core2 Quad 9100
Core2 Extreme 9300

I'd like to get the Core2 Extreme 9300, but I'm not sure the system actually supports it. A question similar to this appeared on the Dell website but never game any actual answer, as all given was a list of replacement parts.

I plan on completely maxing this laptop, what with 8GB of RAM and an SSD, the whole nine yards.

Suggestions? I'm using the laptop right now, so I can give any info needed.

>>
T9600 is 35W
QX9300 is 45W
I think it would work thats not much difference.
>>
>>55827460
I'm actually wondering if the BIOS is capable of doing this.

I've got an older laptop (Inspiron 5160) that had a Pentium 4 2.8GHz with Hyperthreading, and it didn't take too well to having a 3GHz CPU installed (POST errors).

How would the extra 45W affect battery life? Currently lasts about 3 or 4 hours on a full charge, not sure how this would change that.

Also wondering how this could effect cooling, this CPU gets very hot as is.
>>
>>55827508
You need to work on your google-fu

Intel® Core™ i3-6100 Processor (2-Cores, 3MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, 3.7GHz)
vs.
Intel® Core™ i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache,
up to 4.0 GHz)

The i7-6700 is faster then the i3-6100 right? Is it by a lot or no? I am buying a new pc for school, work, and gaming. I know some noob shit but I am just trying to figure some stuff out. Thanks

Yes if you can afford the i7, get the i7.
Don't listen to these dickheads who bought something not as good because they just had to use half their budget to replace their already nice case and everything for some reason and feel driven to defend their gimped down CPU purchase.
It makes a big fucking difference in real world performance.
>>
>>55827296
The core clock speed or Ghz don't really impact raw performance. The I3-6100 has 2 cores opposed to the four on the i7, less transistors, and lower cache. Better to get something xeon e5 2670 v3 for $193 on eBay.

>They are engineering samples that's why they're cheap and they have lower clock speeds but it's a 12 core CPU based on the LGA 2011-v3 socket

> and you can take advantage of the x99 platform
>>
>>55827296
most reasonable cpu is i5 6600k, esp if you play games. If you video edit or have highly multithreaded workloads then you want a hyperthreaded cpu like an i7

What BitTorrent client do you use?
I use qBittorrent at the moment but it's really resource intensive for some reason, to the point where loading a 20-minute episode in MPC-HC takes 10> seconds
