The biggest problem with making a new, modern operating system is that with each passing year there's countless more things to be compatible with.
What if a new operating system completely ignored that need, and put all work into an automated system that cannibalises code from other operating systems?
>new OS can't read .png files
>OS makes Windows open a png file and looks at what code runs
>strips down the code as barebones as possible, by playing around in a sandbox and seeing what it can get rid of while still producing the same result
While that sort of code reading algorithm would have to be wondorously effective, by this point it seems more practical to make then a new operating system that does things in the old way.

Hey /g/, I just did a fresh minimal netinstall of Debian without a DE, and something is fucked up. I don't have any basic commands like sudo, ifconfig, etc. and I can't connect to wifi. You know, coming to /g/ for tech advice seems like bad idea, but, why not?
I can't ping 8.8.8.8, I can only use the google alternate DNS 8.8.4.4, which is slow as balls.
Do you have any recommendations? It dies right before it reaches 8.8.8.8 on the traceroute.
