I think it's safe to say that the "Pro/g/ramming Challenges, Version 4.0" is just about finished! We have all the challenges, and all we need to do now is make it into a presentable picture!
Here's the pastebin, where the challenges are sorted by category:

By the way, I've tried using a cheap Paint knockoff, but the image ends up really blurry and ugly, anyone know how to use a more professional image editing software?
No dungeon generator?
For the 'fuck you're level of difficulty, making a unity or gamemaker style game engine would be good.
>>55884692
Changed one of the challenges slightly to include Unity (see pic related)...
>>55884034
Oh shit that's a good one... I'll add it as "Roguelike engine/dungeon generator", how's that sound?
Where's the best place to host a managed ownCloud server? Like a lot of GB for cheap.
OneDrive has 1TB for $5. Google Drive 1TB $10.
It doesn't have to be outside the USA to protect freedoms, I just want to use the software because it has a feature I need.

Can we have a windows 7 general?
I just got it set up, got all the drivers for my hardware.
Now I'm curious what programs people like having? what are the first things you do after setting up a win 7 machine?
Set updates to "Check but let me choose whether to download or install"
Hide and never install the following updates:
KB2882822 - Update adds ITraceRelogger interface support.

KB2990214 - Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows.
KB3021917 - Update to Windows 7 SP1 for performance improvements (telemetry)
KB3035583 - GWX update installs Get Windows 10 app.

Install all security updates and avoid shitty software like Java and Flash. Antivirus is optional but can be useful at times.
if this is a windows 7 thread, I need some help
I tried clearing the update cache in the System distribution folder after failing to install 56 updates. Now it's just showing me this. Does anyone have any advice?
am I fucked, /g/?
>>55884137
Microsoft changed the way the Windows Update system worked, if you recently installed Windows 7 or cleared out the cache folder you'll need to install the latest Windows Update client.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3161647
It's not really relevant now, but newer versions of the update client have the ability to disable "upgrades" to Windows 10. Use the tool "Never10" to set that option.
What is the difference between local and global (extern) variables?
Describe situations in which you would use each type of variable.
Why do most programmers try to avoid using global variables?
>>55883454
Seriously. Are you in high school, anon?
Global variables are accessible globally, or in any scope in the program.
You use local variables when you want to store something, you never use global variables (though sometimes i use them for ease when i'm just writing a quick and stupid script)
Avoid global variables because they encourage bad software design. You should pass variables as parameters. This will make the flow of data and the use of variables more clear to someone reading your code.
>>55883454
It's stupid not to exclusively use global variables that standard started because of the increased amounts of females going into computer courses that couldn't handle the experience and knowledge to do so.
Is it worth it?
Basically, I just want to lay down on my sofa with a wireless keyboard with mouse and this shit plugged on my TV.

i know its nice to actually install just the nvidia video drivers from repo + configure bumblebee.
Thx for reminding me that i dont have to spend hours installing intel chipset drivers, realtek sound drivers, intel GBE ethernet drivers, Atheros wifi/bluetooth drivers (of which i have to guess working versions because that one shitty card), intel HD graphics cards and nvidia video card drivers, and either fight the automatic driver installer from windows 10 or install everything new manually every one month (why cant i disable just the camera driver auto update? it breaks my camera ;/)

>>55883255
No, thank god. He wants to be an IT major but only uses windows 10.
How should I break it to him that he'll never excel?
So, I have a question.
Let's say, 20 years down the road, we make our tech so refined that the strongest GPU on the market is only slightly bigger than a smartphone. Most ATX towers are things of the past, and motherboards are about the size of an index card.
Why wouldn't we make them bigger? If we can make strong as fuck stuff that small, wouldn't it make more sense to keep things the same size but put more strong shit in there?
Uh, we would just make them bigger.
GPUs have been getting actually larger over the last 30 years.
Should I watch her anime?
