Would it be a good idea to transfer the OS to a new harddrive or just fresh install?
>>55892811
install gentoo
>>55892811
Why would you want to do a fresh install?
Yes I'm aware of what it is...
>>55892811
Is that a boat?
Is Arch Linux technology's biggest fedora?
No, install gentoo.

THINK FAST NIGGERS! Air cooling or Liquid Cooling for your CPU?
>>55892750
Never custom loop, otherwise closed loop for pretty.
>>55892750
Liquid if you have a system (ie overclocking) that legitimately needs it. In most applications liquid cooling accomplishes nothing a well designed air cooling system can't. It looks cooler though.

Time for a lil' bit of a storyhere, /g/
I work for BlueHost, a webhosting company that works under the brands BlueHost, Host Monster, JustHost, and Fast Domains. BlueHost is owned by Endurance International Group, a corporation that owns like a hundred different brands, including Host Gator, Constant Contact, iPage, and ohmygodwhocares it's a lot.
/b/ me, have a few years tech experience, still learning coding C++, site design, etc but basically only know enough to make myself the go-to guy for broken computers (ie 'how does my apple have a virus?! that's impossible macs don't get malware!' that sort of bullshit)
Get a job at BlueHost, since they have their main offices and their thousands of servers located in my city in the Orem-Provo area in Utah. Figure it'll be a good place to learn more, earn some money, maybe even become a developer.
Right off the bat, 'yeah sorry our servers are down during training a bunch of towelheads called the Syrian Electronic Army keep DDOSing us'. This will be a thing every other week, along with a myriad of other issues that translate to 'well everything you pay us for is down'. Basically 9/10 calls are going to be caused by kiddies in third world countries, our own devs being unable to work on servers without bringing a dozen other ones down for a few days, or Cloudmark.
Oh yeah, Cloudmark, we aren't supposed to let anyone know we use a third party company to scan your emails which are then randomly marked as spam by their systems and we have no idea why.
cont.
Here is the biggest issue though, tech support at BlueHost is non-existent, because it is basically a glorified sales job. You're a web developer who actually knows what you're doing? Wish I could help you dude, but you know if you buy SiteLock/Constant Contact/Dedicated IP this thing wouldn't happen. You a dumbass small business owner who has no idea what you're doing? Wonderful, if you buy these products, your issues will all go away.
Now like I said, I know a bit about tech support, and I know enough to actually help these guys, and the way the job is presented, selling is more optional to get commissions. Personally I am a shit salesman, I just want to get your issue fixed or else tell you to fix it your own damn self if it isn't our problem.
Now /b/ me over the last month. Get consistently called in, told sales numbers are not good enough, I should be bringing in at least a few hundred dollars in sales minimum, more like a few thousand a month if I really want to keep the job. My actual call resolution and customer satisfaction are high though so these are kept to small warnings, told not to worry about it.
Now /b/ me today. Get a new coach, this huge Scottish fellow who, I shit you not, looks and sounds exactly like the fat Scottsman from Austin Powers. Fat Bastard over here starts laying into me about a few select calls that ended with telling the customer we don't support their issues (which we don't, we listened to the calls).
Fat Bastard tells me I should have sold them X, Y, and Z products. Tell him those products have nothing to do with customer issues. Get told, and I quote, 'They don't have to know that!'
Now they're discussing either putting me back in training, or just outright firing me.

>/b/ me
Stopped reading here.

Anyway tl;dr I work for one of the biggest webhosting companies in the world, one of the only ones that can rival GoDaddy and those other big name companies. Tech support there is basically just Sales Jr.
Anyone want me to bring in a thumb drive on my last day tomorrow and upload whatever the hell is in it to the intranet there?
*BANG BOOM CRASH*
"Freeze let me see your hands!"
"Find the hard drive!"

Redpill me on Wireless Routers,I know nothing about it.
First off,can I buy any brand,or I need the same brand(I have non-wireless router) that was given to me by my Internet provider?
Second, what is there difference between routers?Speed? How much is enough?
Here,example:
https://www.uzishop.hr/mrezna-oprema/4192-tp-link-tl-wr941nd-wlan-router-300mbps-4-port.html
https://www.uzishop.hr/mrezna-oprema/4193-tp-link-touch-p5-touch-screen-wi-fi-gbit-router.html
Second one costs about 5 times more. Why?
make sure your router's bandwidth at least matches what you're getting from your isp, more if you have many devices using the internet simultaneously/have devices communicating with eachother over the home network. then, make sure the network adapter in your computer matches - or ideally exceeds - what you're getting from your isp. then, go to your isp's website and look for a list of routers/modems that they support. your local electronics store should be able to help you as well, provided you don't have crippling autism
>>55892252
WiFi is for normies, don't use it.
>>55892252
> can I buy any brand,or I need the same brand(I have non-wireless router) that was given to me by my Internet provider?
Any brand usually works. That being said, if you get a branded one, that may not work if you switch providers - e.g. I got a Telstra Modem/Router, and that wouldn't work when I swapped to a different ISP
> what is there difference between routers?
Wireless AC is currently the newest and fastest WiFi protocol. Higher numbers is better bandwidth and better scheduling, for the most part.
> How much is enough?
That's up to you, m80. Wireless-N is honestly still enough for most people, even for streaming and gaming.
When was the last time you DREAMED IN CODE?
No but I did have a nightmare about nonfree javascript once

Hey guys.
Came here seeking for the stupid questions thread but don't see it up
See, I'm running through a backlog of old Java vidya for my old Moto GO! EX 430, and there's this particular RPG called Ninja Prophecy that I can't get to run due to a message that reads
>"This game does not support landscape mode. Please turn your handset to portrait mode."
It's an old 320x240 phone with a small qwerty keyboard, it doesn't possess such capabilities as landscape mode.
Is there a way to play through code modification of the game, or settings tweaking on my phone?
Neither Google or /r/ could help, you're my only hope /g/.
>>55892049
Get a job
>>55892049
Probably not.
Also what happened to the stupid questions thread?

What should every developer know about legal stuff and things like that?
That GPL is cancer and MIT/BSD/Apache will land you a comfy job.
They should know that they can be sued for releasing their open source software if they don't release it under a license that absolves them of all liability.
I recommend GPLv3.
Don't listen to MIT/BSD cucks, you do not want a permissive software license, it opens you up to having your software stolen and used in proprietary software without attribution or compensation.
That you should have a talk with a lawyer or someone more knowlegable in the law , not some /g/tards. I say this as someone who got sued in the music industry because some other person used my name in another part of the country on his soundcloud.
