Shill bait thread.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
It's sad, really. Anyone who shows even the slightest bit of interest in alternative operating systems, privacy, or security are immediately dismissed as a paedophile, a terrorist, or a shill.
"Nothing to hide, nothing to fear" is a retarded fallacy. See: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1827982

My god WHY WONT THAT FUCKING COMPANY JUST DIE
The 100i v2 is a rebrand of the 100i GT. They changed the previously confusing naming scheme to a new confusing naming scheme for 2016.

If a drone can deliver a package, what prevents it from delivering a pipe bomb?
I'm really surprised we haven't yet seen any terrorist attacks executed by drones. Isn't it just a matter of time?
I figure the expense involved. The size necessary to lift the bomb. Line of sight needed to control it, meaning the pilot has to be fairly near.
Are you planning to drop off and have the drone fly back? They can't blend into the surroundings.
Are you planning to sacrifice the drone, so it's easier for you to escape? Then presumably they might be able to investigate who purchased the drone, or the component parts (and cross reference multiple sources.)
It's way easier to just deliver in person, then blend into the crowd to make your escape.

It is not going to be widely used because it will be a premium service and nobody is going to pay extra to get something off Amazon within 30 minutes because there is nothing that important exclusive to Amazon that can't be bought at any store in a 30 minute drive distance away.
There's cheap twenty dollar drones you can get from chink land. No tracking present. So yeah it's a little horrifying but it isn't like you will ever leave your mom's basement.
Is Linux Mint secure? Or was that blown out of proportion?
Relatively
>>55907214
more secure than windows. less secure than a fully patched loonix system most likely
>>55907214
Blown out of proportion. The affected repository was fixed pretty quickly, and then most people could have avoided the hacks If they would have just verified the image before installing.
The hackers got into Linux mint 17 and now we're on 18 anyway.
Never before have I experienced something as ground breaking as this latest windows update. Emphasis on breaking. This update has utterly fucked my computer. It has reset my custom settings. It has fucked performance. It has increased RAM usage. It has increased CPU usage. All whilst idling. It broke custom modifications in many pieces of software and it has further broken my registry.
The performance in the "new" windows task bar is fucking abysmal, you can't even scroll down quickly without it lagging and pausing to load. You get flooded with thousands of notifications about stupid shit you don't care about. They pin more things to your quick access bar, without asking you. They installed more bloatware. They've created more folders in my documents and C: Drive, none of which I want.
Good job Microsoft, you autistic fucks. You've successfully pissed me off. Now I have to do a fresh install on my machine.
So I shouldn't have updated?
Does the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mean nothing to you?
>>55907158
You should treat each Windows 10 "Milestone" like it's own seperate OS. Microsoft already is.
Prepare to clean install every 6 months if you want to stay on the upgrade train and not deal with bugs and issues.
LOW GPU USAGE DESPITE EVERYTHING
>280x ran like a dream when I first built my PC in 2013
>99% usage, constant 60 fps in most games
>fast forward a few years
>low GPU usage, low FPS in most games, just bareable most times
>tried reinstalling OS, drivers, etc a million times
>tried switching RAM, no difference
>benchmarked CPU against reference results, fine
>have an XFX 750W PSU so it should be fine
>buy 1070 hoping to fix this issue forever
>still happens
>Firestrike GPU score is 18,000, overall score 12500
I only get a high GPU usage on benchmarks, I tried CSGO on 720p and I was getting between 180-200 fps regardless of resolution, with a GPU usage of 19% and CPU1 at 80%, the others at 40-20%. Even Skyrim stays around 50 fps.
What gives, this has literally gone on for years and I have no idea what's causing it. I'm ready to give up senpai

CSGO doesn't use your GPU almost at all, it's pretty much CPU based
dunno otherwise faam

Why is AMD so shit? Pic related.
They focus on meme technologies like Async and Vulkan instead of proper support for shit people actually use like OpenGL
>>55906826
Situation will reverse later this year when DX12 shits on nvidia cards
>>55907323
And then Nvidia develops DX12 compatible cards that destroy AMD's, and people buy them because they arent foodstamps poor like AMDrones

Asking "Hey guys, what's your opinion on x?" is frowned upon.
Wireless is frowned upon.
Headset requests are frowned upon.
Noise isolation ≠ Noise cancellation
If you dislike a suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, x sucks"

Can I ask about earbuds or is that frowned upon? I work in a warehouse and listen to music on my apple earbuds but would like an upgrade.
>Budget is anything under $150, preferably $50ish but I'd shell out some cash I guess

>Must be comfortable! I'll be wearing these for up to 8 hours a day
>Apple earbuds get the job done but are kinda meh. They hurt my ears after a few hours. I also have Audio Technica ATH-M50x and I like them
So for the most part, measurements and reviews give me the impression that the HE-400i are worth it. Although one review claimed they sounded veiled with certain music, which sounds unlikely desu. Anyone have any experience with them to confirm or deny them being good?

Hey guys, Python newb here. Literally my first day learning any computer language, from what I heard Python is a fine first language to learn. Anyways, I'm doing the exercises in Code Academy while also trying to follow along and doing them as well in my IDE (IDLE). For whatever the fucking reason, what I type in CA doesn't fucking work in IDLE. I keep getting this bullshit fucking error invalid syntax.
If someone could help me out that be great, I'd imagine it's a very noob and simple error to fix. Thanks guys.
Try putting parentheses around your print statement, for example:print(test)
>>55906095
This guy is correct.
Code Academy teaches you an older version of python. In the latest version you must put parenthesis around your print statements.
>>55906023
You're missing a parenthesis surrounding the string in quotes. It says so right in the error message. Also, CodeAcademy teaches version 2.7 while you're using 3.5. Download version 2.7 if you want to follow along with the tuts.
