What's the stupidest/most roundabout/most inefficient code you wrote when you were first learning to program?
I really wanted to get into game development, so I skipped the basics of programming and jumped right into gamedev (big mistake, I know). I tried to make an AABB function that worked by drawing an invisible box around the object and checking it for collision.
Still don't know why I thought that would work.
Exponential regex matching algorithm
Recursive Fibonacci.
We learned to program GBA in our intro computer architecture class, and I completely forgot about DMA and I moved pixels into and out of memory using for loops.

Now that the anniversary update came out the
>Nothing to hide
argument doesnt work anymore
It's a matter of bad design and bad software
>Non windows partitions getting overwritten
>MBR overwritten
>Higher CPU usage idle
>Start menu glitchy
>Botnet more ingrained
>Cant "upgrade" to windows 7 for Vidya because only windows 10 has dx12 support
>When windows 7 loses support you'll have to use 10
>Something happened
>No control over OS
And this isn't even the spying aspect
>Inb4 I use windows 7
When it loses support or when you get a "critical update" that makes it windows 10 then you're screwed
Why arent are you using linux,BSD, or macOS /g/?

Worse than 10, nice try though shill.

meanwhile I'm on 10 for a year now, it's pretty comfy
it's hilarious how people shitpost on g about it though
Hey /g/, what do you guys think of this router? I'm moving into a new place and don't want to have to lease a router from the company. Most of the specs are gibberish to me, but I know ASUS is generally a good brand.
And no, Google Fiber is not available in my area. Sadly.

I have an asus rt-n12 with ddwrt, which is trivial to flash to this model, it runs 16 devices flawlessly. If I ever had the need to upgrade I'd definitely go with asus just due to the ddwrt compatibility and overall reliability
meanwhile I have a buffalo whr300-hp2 that I use as a book end, which is actually the most productive use to which it can be put.

Hello /g/! What's the best software for recovering files from a micro sd that went RAW?
I was just cutting something from my 3ds' micro sd (GATEWAYNAND), finished cutting, ejected it safely and removed it. When I tried to put it back in the 3ds it didn't recognize it, put it back on PC and it's RAW, needs to format. Chkdsk can't do anything, recuva couldn't either. iCareDataRecovery barely recovered 4 files with no name. EaseUs looked like it could recover more but to recover you have to pay and besides again nothing was named.
Please, let me your wisdom /g/. I apologize I posted it here but /wsr/ is absolutely desolate.
please don't leave me to die /g/
I know many have recovered lost data from a damaged disk..

I had good use with chk back and recuva, this was with a flash drive though

Is quad channel memory configuration still a meme?
Not for professional application and number crunching stuff with 2 or 4 sockets.

So single 8gig stick is still meta?

Not for servers. If you're processing a shitton of data it's a necessity.
Is Code Academy a good place to learn coding?
I started to take the Python course because it said it was the best to start up, but couldn't finish it. I did everything they told me to do in the lessons, but I wasn't able to understeand what I was doing, rather than feeling like I was learning something I just felt like I was midnlessly following instructions.
I also tried with youtube tutorials for Java before that but found the same problem.
>>55934500
No. Edx cs50 or create a project and work on it.
No. It's nothing but monkey see, monkey do. You might feel like you are accomplishing something by earning their "achievements", but you aren't learning shit.
Get a fucking book. Learn to spot real world problems and solve them with coding.
>>55934500
it closely mimics the experience of learning programming in college
as in "write these magic words in this magic text box and shit will happen"
some people prefer to learn like that and never give a shit what's under the hood, so I can't discourage you from giving it a shot
Which screen capture application do you use, /g/?

Hi /g/,
it happened again.. my Sennheiser CX200 earphones got a loose connection. Again. At exactly the same place all of my headphones break: near the cable of the audio jack.
And it's actually not just headphones. I had quite a few other audio cables break too over the last two decades and as far as I can remember it's always the same place near the audio jack.
A few years ago I still bought "expensive" headphones for on the go, but I stopped that because they broke all the time. Now I keep my real headphones at home or at work, where they can't break easily and only use cheap headphones for leaving the house (where they will break after a few months of use). At least now my good headphones (Beyerdynamic and Audio Technica) last for years. Nevertheless I still have to regularly buy new "on-the-go" headphones and I just don't want to anymore. I've thrown away so many otherwise completely decent headphones over time, it's ridiculous. It's not even really about the money. It's just so unbelievably wasteful.. I mean every part of the headphones still worked, expect for that fucking cable. This is so infuriating.
I can't be the only one right? This must happen all the time to other people too. I mean look at all these shitty, but portable earbuds.. They all have the same flimsy cables. I'm sure this is a case of planned obsolescence.
Is there anything I can do? I tried soldering them, but without luck.. The actual wires inside these tiny cables are extremely hard to isolate and properly solder to a new cable. It also doesn't help that I suck at soldering. What can I do? How can I stop being exploited by the corporate shits who decide to produce their stuff this way?
>inb4 "stop lgoing outside"
1. Buy earphones (who the fuck calls them this!?) at Costco and use their unlimited time return policy when they break.
2. Purchase them anywhere and use a credit card that adds an extra year to the manufacturer's warranty for free.
>>55934267
Buy ear budes which have replaceable cables. Shure and other companies make them; generally start at around $150. Or not be a faggot, learn how to solder, and cut off the damaged portion of the cable and add a new connector.
>What can I do?
Stop sucking.
panasonic rp hje120's for chump change are all you need on the go. buy a million pairs, abuse them, toss them, flush them, sennheiser earphones are memes.
Hi all, 2002 wj 6 cyl. new engine. Tranny starts acting wonky, wont shift into first, then gets no power at all. Sometimes I shift into first manually. Bought a reman from rock auto. Drove three miles and the same problem, wont shift into first and then revs go thru the roof. Could it be the computer? im getting 1764 error...governor...? Im ready to shove a stick of dynamite up its tailpipe(for lack of a more profound expletive)
Help!!! Im sick of driving mom's camry.

Why does android suck so hard.

Is Amazon too big?
Should it be broken up like Standard Oil or the old AT&T?
In order to qualify as a monopoly, they would have to be the ONLY retailer left in the entire country and you would have to prove that they jacked up their prices after becoming the only option for buying things.
>>55934282
You can have something that's an effective monopoly, which I do believe Amazon is. There is no retail giant as big as Amazon, not even close. And their walled-garden practices (e.g. Kindle only works with Kindle Store) is a bit unnerving. Amazon has, if I believe correctly, been caught jacking up eBook prices in cohorts with Apple, etc. That's why there was a lawsuit a few years ago.
monopolies can only exist with government help.
Even if a company is the only company doing something, that does not mean it is a monopoly. if it is no vigilant, upstarts can arise quickly to take market share. And this happens often. So government should not be hasty in penalizing companies for being successful.
why there's so many versions of c++ Hello World code and which one of them is correct?
There aren't that many. Correct are ones that output message similar to "Hello world!" to stdout.
If a piece of code does what it's supposed to do and it compiles, it's correct, you dumb shit.
>>55934136
Uh OP...that's C. And that's not even the standard. As of C89, it is no longer necessary to return an int as the compiler does that implicitly.
