Why is Microsoft Word's auto-update so incredibly unreliable?
>Write in Word document as a hobby over the week
>Don't save because I'm a moron
>Put computer to sleep, wake up, work on it the next morning
>It automatically updated in the middle of the night, forcing a shutdown of my computer and closing all my programs without autosaving any of them
>Document's gone
>GONE gone
>Nothing in autosave since August 3rd on a completely unrelated document
>Consider a system restore
>System restore is auto-disabled on Windows 10
I get that the primary fault is mine for not saving in earnest, but I mean, holy shit, how do you not notice a hole in your Recovery program like that?
I figured the stuff I was using my computer for was so base-line basic that I wouldn't have any problems with the more advanced functions of Windows 10. I'm beginning to see the complaints.
install an alternative operating system with an alternative office suite
then the program just crashes randomly instead.
but does auto-save like every five minutes by default.

>using Word

>using system restore
>too stupid to save files
>too stupid to disable auto updates
You're like one of those tech illiterate people I used to teach at a workshop. Except they were mostly 70+ years old.

And you're a fucking prick.
Can't get my Laptop to recognize my External HDD. Light is on. It's connected. Won't do anything.
Have you tried turning it off then on again?
>>56061294
Did you mount it?
>>56061320
Yeah. Unplugged the power, unplugged the usb.
It doesn't do anything.
How can I determine if it's fully crashed?
I always see anti-Android people cite lack of software updates as a problem with Android.
How big of a problem is this for most mainstream phones? Genuine question, most of my experiences are with pre-Lenovo Motorola phones and the Nexus line, with most of my family opting for OnePlus.
If you have any horror stories, post them here I guess.
>>56061240
They usually stop being supported after two years, and whenever a major security vulnerability is unveiled it sometimes takes months before the patches reach the users. Nexus devices on the other hand get patches pretty much the week of the discovery though.
It's mostly marketing. The patches are posted to AOSP and then the manufacturer has to put them in their roms, then they are sent to the carriers for additional bloating.
>>56061240
Not a big problem if you have a mainstream phone and are willing to flash non-stock roms. If you stay on touchjizz or related you deserve security flaws
>>56061240
who the fuck needs updates
Still on ICS and loving it.
>inb4 no custom roms
They exist up to 6.0 for my device, but hey, don't fix what's not broken.
For those of you who are interested in a version of Windows 10 without apps, I suggest you use the Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB edition!
For those of you who were already on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB (N), I'm here to let you know that the anniversary update has come out for LTSB on MSDN and that it rocks! The Russians have released it and posted direct links to it on their social media profiles. The ISO is clean and the SHA1 matches the one given on MSDN.

Serious question, are you Indian?

future of package/programs/apps management in Linux:
so far we have the following projects that try to offer a universal experience with package management in Linux:
-Flatpack
-Snaps
-AppImage
-Orbital Apps
-Nix
-Habitat
-and more
what do you think /g/? are we going to get in our lifetime a unified Linux experience? or in the end Google will take out the desktop market with Chrome OS and Android?
>The difference of choice is the strongest weapon of Linux
>It's a double edge sword that could destroy the community
Personally I like AppImage and I am surprised that it existed for a long time and people didn't give a fuck about it.

jokes aside, what do you like?
Do you think we are going to get the year of the Linux desktop?
I am trying AppImage and it's fucking sweet. I can use programs swiftly. The only (big) downside is that things like services, desktop environments, etc won't work with AppImage.
I'm thinking of making a small VPN server. What would be more secure: L2TP/IPSec or OpenVPN? The host OS will be OpenBSD.

Please don't ever post this webm again.

Fuck spiders
>>56060876
>l2tp/IPsec is built into windows and some other OS'. OpenVPN isn't
>OpenVPN can run on port 443, which can be used to circumvent restrictive firewalls
It all depends on the situation in which you will use it.
Personally, I would go for l2tp/IPsec

Colours change according to current album
The coloured parts get larger depending on charge and signal strength.
Cyan - Battery - Messenger on tap
Magenta - WiFi - Phone on tap
Yellow - Cell Signal - Chrome on tap
Clock - Gmail on tap
I got a new computer tower but and it turns on, but the monitor isn't getting a signal from my HDMI or VGA input. The monitor works. Did I skip a step?

so what do you think of it, /g/?
>no ads
>google play music subscription also included.
I stream a lot of music and i think RED is honestly the way to go. I use YouTube exclusively to listen to music anyway since Spotify, Pandora, etc. etc. don't host the artists i listen too.
What do you use to stream music /g/?
pic related my acct.
>>56060687
>no ads
uBlock Origin
>google play music subscription
Why?
I'd like it on my phone.
Don't want to root it and the ads are far worse on mobile. Too bad it's only in select few countries.
>>56060700
i still have the ad blocker, but like the other guy said it's mostly a plus on mobile. i use youtube for the music so it's more often on my phone than on my PC.
also pretty useful to be able to turn off the screen.
