So in EA's Origin there is this "repair game" feature. It is supposed to check and compare all the game's files against the ones stored on their server and redownload anything that doesn't look correct.
My question is, how does this actually work? If, for example, one bit has changed in one file and that is preventing the game from starting, how does this find that difference? It would essentially need to download the original file to be able to compare, wouldn't it? Is it comparing checksums?
>>56064045
md5 ?
>>56064045
>Is it comparing checksums?
Probably.
>>56064045
It uses a hash, just like steam.
>open text file from a *nix system
>entire file is in one line
Why is this allowed
>>56064020
Because you are using notepad.exe . Seriously? You expected to open *nix files with notepad.exe?
Because Winshit systems use incorrect line endings.
>notepad.exe still doesn't understand line endings
At least replace it with Notepad2.
Hey /g/, what is a better major: IT or Computer Science? I feel like the majority of successful people were studying computer science, but IT seems more practical. Thanks
CS if you want to do web dev or software engineering etc.
IT you dont really need a degree to break into, but will need one to make it to a mgmt position.

Does browser choice affect battery life?
>>56063745
yes. Safari is very effective compared to the other browsers
>>56063745
They are. But the real devil is JavaScript.
Chrome is fast but needs more battery
Firefox is slow and also needs much
Opera with battery saving enabled and edge are slow but dont need as much energy
>RCMP uses VLC
MPV fags BTFO

Are WD 3 TB drives any good? I know Seagate ones are garbage but don't know anything about the WD ones.
Are they "class action lawsuit" bad?
If they are HSGT it's ok. Hitachi made the best 3 TB drives tho
People should just make the jump to 4tb. I've never seen a 3tb drive that is good.
This file just showed up on my aria2c folder...

What the fuck?
>>56063548

Worst that can happen is that someone found a javascript exploit that will take over your machine
How come gamers use decade old CPUs in 2016?
If it still works why wouldn't they?
>>56063480
They clearly don't if they can't run modern software.

Intel backdoor.

Why don't they make an installer for gentoo? I feel bad for all the people who don't use it because they can't install it, and then get all "sour grapes" on /g/. It really is a great distro when you get past the installation
I thought funtoo was gust gen2 with an installer.
>>56063001
No
Try Calculate Linux
>>56062989
Isn't the installation process kind of the whole point?

Can someone please help me out
I've always had my computer downstairs, but I really want to move it upstairs for more privacy.
Now the thing is, my house is old as fuck and doesnt have grounded outlets. I was considering a more expensive powerline adapter because there aren't any ethernet cables running upstairs, but i heard ungrounded outlets result in bad connectivity.
What's my best bet on getting a connection good enough for online gaming upstairs?
Move out of your parents house.
Wi-fi
>>56062847
Drill a hole and run an ethernet cable.
>my house is old as fuck and doesnt have grounded outlets
I assume you live somewhere in Euroland?
