>he went to college to study "computer science"
>he went to college to learn """""programming""""""
CS has effectively become the new psychology degree.
It's the "default" degree that millennials take when they fall for the "everyone needs to go to college" meme and they enter college not knowing what they want.
These are people who think they'll fit in because they've spent their whole lives on their computer and think it'll be easy.
They've never bothered to learn programming or CS concepts in their spare time and just expect college to teach them everything because they really have no passion for programming.
They don't even do their assignments outside of school and certainly never open their text editor outside of class.
Ask any one of them if they've ever written software in their spare time for fun and they'll look at you like you're crazy.
And what do they get?
CS programs are almost unequivocally shitand only people who spend their spare time self-learning the stuff their classes leave out have any chance of making it in a tech world.
In an ideal world, you could self-teach most, if not all of a CS curriculum yourself, but you still need that slip of paper that says you went to college, so that's not realistic.
Most CS graduates cannot program worth a damn, and can't implement any data structure or concept that wasn't explicitly taught to them.
Don't fucking bother with computer science. Major in something you couldn't realistically learn on your own and teach yourself CS on the side.
wtf i hate computer science now

Murican CS may be shit, in my country it's pretty elitist on the major unis, speak for yourself burger.

What is it that you can't realistically learn on your own?
What editing software do you use, /g/?
Premiere CC at work
Final Cut Pro 7 for Youtube related stuff
Vegas for shits and giggles
I used to use Camtasia Studio 7 and upward.
I stopped using it when I noticed that the video and audio tracks where totally off if e.g you want to edit a video and put in an audio track separately, then if you want to cut it so that at a certain moment in the video a certain part of the audio track would come on. You had to play everything completely through to hear at what stage the song is at a certain point. You couldn't just select a certain second to play, e.g second 45, because if you did, then the video track would skip to 45 secs but the audio track would play the audio of e.g. second 40.
I'm already getting mad just by typing it ^^
Anyways, never had to edit after that, so I never needed any other editing tool

Would it be worth it to buy a new screen/cheap SSD for a netbook I have lying around? Thinking of putting Linux on it and using it for web browsing. It should cost around 40 dollars altogether.
>pic related: my netbook
As long as your netbook has decent battery life, sure. It would be pointless to only be able to use it while plugged in.
>>56128383
From what I remember, yeah, the battery's in pretty good shape.
if you're going to get a netbook get the acer aspire one zg5, it's hackintosh compatible, comes with a built-in 3G card and also fuck you

Yes, we know everything already is from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on Gearbest, AliExpress, eBay and similar sites.

Redpill me on Macs, /g/.
they are crap.
/thread
>>56127700
I understand that, but why are they crap? Is there any specific reason?
Most of /g/ is too poor to afford one, so they meme the fuck out of them and shitpost because sour grapes.
They're beautiful computers with a decent OS that's somewhere between Windows and Linux.
Their price is a bit high because they're a bit of a status symbol.
Sup /g/ I'm 23yo and just got my first smartphone ever, it's a cheap android one but I'd like to know if you guys have any tips/advice about configuring it.
I will mainly use it to go on 4chan and listen to music .
All your help is welcome.

Disable as much auto-update, auto-sync and apps trying to run in the background constantly or your battery life will suck.
Is it safe to set my professional gmail as default profile considering I'll be browsing non-sfw boards?

Do any of you /g/ents own a chineese VR?
I want to try out VR porn on my Nexus 6.
I'm looking for one with a head strap and under $25.
Which one do you recommend?
I just use a $2 Google cardboard. Good enough for me!
>>56127569
can I play my vidya on this?
>>56127583
I don't really feel like having a cardboard rubbing against my face desu senpai.
I don't think it'll be a very pleasant experience.
I need to setup a Linux VM. I'm looking for a lightweight distro that doesn't take much disk space and resources. I tried Lubuntu but it took 9GB of disk space in the end. I don't have time to setup Arch from scratch either. I'm also thinking of trying Debian with the bare minimum installation requirements. What do you recommend, /g/?

I need a new bluetooth speaker for work (indoors). I don't have a budget restriction but I still shop for value. My experience with BT speakers thus far has been:
808 Hex: Decent. Poor battery life, distortion pretty bad at high volumes.
UE Roll: Loved this speaker, let a friend borrow it and he never returned it. Derp.
G-Drop: Not awful, not great. Got it for free.
I would like my next purchase to blow me away and change my expectation of BT speakers. I was considering the JBL Flip 3/JBL Charge 3. Anyone know how these 2 compare in sound quality? Features? Quirks?
Should I be considering a different speaker? Im not /completely/ averse to the larger "boombox" sized speakers that have been popping up as of late but I need something that can be charged from USB not AC only. The advantage of the larger speaker would really have to outweigh the loss in portability too.
What do you guys think?
I got a Logitech UE Boom. Its loud and battery lasts a long time. Audio is probably ok. I use Genelecs at home so everything else sounds like shit.
>>56127287
I use one of the smaller braven speakers.
It's waterproof and has indoor and outdoor sound modes with a built in power bank. Very solid sound and fits whatever you're doing.
