Total CPU Newbie here.
Tired of the console bullshit and looking to get into PC gaming.... eventually. For the moment though I am looking for a low end gaming laptop. Something that can run last gen games - Borderlands 2, Arkham City, Dragon Age Origins, Portal 2, Half Life 2, Dead Space Trilogy, Mass Effect Trilogy, Saints Rows 3, ect halfway decently.
A friend recommended the Lenovo - Flex 4 1470.... but I'm not so sure. Thoughts/opinions?

TIA for any help/advice
Bump. Does anybody have any input at all?

> Gaming laptop
Just buy a cheap notebook if you have the need for a portable computer, then use the money left over to save for a proper PC. You'll be able to get something alot better for the same price as apposed to a 'gaming laptop'.

I thought about going this route but space is limited and I'm gone for long stretches of time. I do plan on going this route when I buy something to play current gen games but I think I still want a laptop to play older stuff.
Need a new Bluetooth speaker /g/, $20 one I've had for 2 years finally busted but I want a good quality one this time. What should I get? I was thinking about the UE Megaboom or Xtreme. Budget's about 300-350 USD
JBL is ok
I don't think anyone here will help you
It really depends on what you like for sound eq default. I like Bose for example since I am not a basshead outside of my car and for headphones anyway, their noise canceling is some of the best atm.
I suggest you go to a bestbuy or something and play the same song segment on all of them. Figure out which one you like!
What should I do with these /g/? Inb4 install Gentoo.

Windows 10 bot edition

Would probably run like shit on these
>>56188309

WHAT THE FUCK AM I MISSING, WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY?
Looking for a cheap general use laptop for browsing the web, typing up documents, and multimedia.
Also going to be used to learn programming.
My choices for less than a hundred dollars are an Asus t100ta transformer, or a Sony Vaio VPCSA28GG.
Battery life is important to me, but so is performance.
What do the tech geniuses on g think I should go with?
>>56188174
Asus Chromebook 14 or Toshiba Chromebook 2. Hack it to install a real distro.
>>56188183
I can get the vaio for 70aud or the asus for 60aud, why should I consider anything else?
>>56188183
This
This will likely seem like b8, but it's a serious question.
I'm a film maker and have been contracted to make a film that is about the behind the scenes Hactivism with the Arab Spring.
Instead of putting a bunch of bull shit graphics and code together like most filmmakers do today I would prefer to have something closer to what Mr. Robot is. Problem is that I don't have the budget to hire a technology consultant, and know very little about computer systems. Can you guys point me in the right direction of some useful resources that may be able to help?
>>56188068
You would be better served spending your time finding investors (probably arts-based non-profits and educational institutions, tbqh) whose money would allow you to hire a technology advisor.
fbi pls go
read sicp and install gentoo
What does /g/ think about the majority of programming books?
I'm asking this because I find that the majority or works out there are terrible on average.
I've learned all of my programming languages through the API documentation. You can go over the information much more quickly without all the fluff.
Most programming books are terrible because they're written for the total layman and not for the experienced programmer.
Plus, through the economics of retail, a 1400 page Deitel Java book that consists of 500 pages of appendixes commands more shelf presence and can be sold for a much higher price than a 200 page weenie pamphlet like K&R

Any book with the title "Introduction to <language> for <game designers/engineers/scientists/biologists/finance/statistics>" is more than likely going to be shit.

What would consumer electronics be like if everyone was as informed as you?
>>56187876
Everyone would be as dumb as shit
>>56187876
Holy shit the world would make the worst purchase decisions ever.
>>56187876
Everyone would be pretty familiar with hardware that's about 20 years old.
It's almost as if forcing people to use your NSA-tier OS causes people to look for alternatives.
Linux is more popular than windows 8.1?
>>56187629
that's fucked lmao.
>>56187619
Looks like OSX is on the rise.
That graph isn't showing market share you fucking mongloid.
I just installed CM13 on my Nexus 4 ^^ Why have I not tried this before? It's so fucking cool. Also Android 6 works perfectly on this device, better than 5.1. I installed Open Gapps pico, so no longer Google garbage, just Play store and services.
>>56187607
Btw, it completely fixes that vulnerability discovered in Android, so another plus
>>56187607
How's that call quality?
How's that picture quality?
How's that GPS workin?
How's that battery life?
I can tell you aren't a real girl because you use a Nexus 4.
Picture says it all, is it?
No, also

Opera seems like a really comfy browser.
Why aren't more people using Opera?
wasn't it just bought by some chinese shithole after they put out the built in vpn feature?
Because "comfy" is not a reason

Let's talk Acer x34 Vs the Asus pg278Q.
Both are 1440p and have gsync. The Asus is 144hz, 27" and has a TN panel. The Acer is 100 hs, 34" and has an IPS panel.
Has anyone used or compared the two to have a solid opinion on them?
The Acer is also 4ms while the Asus is 1.
In terms of gaming, the Asus is typically better in fast pace games like FPS, but overall, which one stands out as the best?
>>56187336
I just bought the x34, it looks amazing. It does have the characteristic IPS glow at the corners if that kind of thing annoys you. I haven't really noticed a huge difference at 100hz over 60hz, adaptive sync is amazing though. Also keep in mind that some games don't support ultrawide resolutions.
>>56187336
fuck them both in the ass.
I have a 60Hz 34" (1440p) Samsung VA panel and it was $450
Shit's cash, all u need.
>>56188621

Who here still rocking with the most underrated and the real budget king graphics card?
sorry bud i got the the 390x
i fell for the x meme
>>56187093
I got one because I needed a card for a workstation. I use it for OpenCL password cracking acceleration, it works good.
I got two in Crossfire since I found a deal for them for 189 a pop. Works nice, man.
