Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.
*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***
Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

can MXSH even compare to Bash or ZSH :^)
>be me
>buy macbook
>need windows for something at work
what is the cheapest way for me to get a legit copy of windows on my mac?
Windows wants over a hundred dollaroos for a key
mirror.corenoc.de/digitalrivercontent.net/
Kmspico
>>56194367
>mirror.corenoc.de/digitalrivercontent.net/
>Kmspico
that's illegal
i want a legit copy
>>56194428
Go on eBay and find people selling windows 7 keys. Set the filter to newest first, and find the dumbassed that decide to put the uncensored key in one of the pictures. If you don't find a dumbass, odds are you will still find a key for cheap.
Tell me about ZFS. Is it actually viable for everyday usage?
>>56194309
Yes
>>56194309
Define "everyday usage". What are you doing and on what kind of computer? What features of ZFS attract you?
>>56194309
Yes, but it uses a lot of memory. btrfs is better in some ways, worse in others. HAMMER2's pretty good, too.
Apple's new APFS is a huge disappointment by comparison.
>battery stops charging while AC is plugged in
>spend $30 on another replacement battery
>that one doesn't charge either
Is my laptop done for?
Let me guess. Did you buy a PC from a brand that doesn't even remotely offer technical support so people on the internet is your only hope?
>buying a non-Surface Windows PC
Goofed, you dun have.

Where does /g/ host their servers / VPS?
As far as I can see some big ones are:
- Amazon AWS
- Google Cloud
- Microsoft Azure
- IBM Softlayer
Are there any (European) hosts which don't hand over data to the NSA without warrant and shit?
>Are there any (European) hosts which don't hand over data to the NSA without warrant and shit?
Stopped reading there.
>>56194071
>Where does /g/ host their servers
At my house
>>56194071
Amateur.
It's called shipping your physical disk to a ToR host.
What are your requirements, I could host it.
What is Snowden's hacking power level?
faggot / 10
>>56194064

He didn't really hack anything besides social engineering coworkers into letting him log into their account.
/music players thread

>>56194052

>whoo let's update quick
>updating
>updating
>an entire hour had passed and it's still updating
>screen turns off and can't return to my work - something about a broken session
>fuck this shit
>reset
>install Linux Mint
And this is the last time I've tried an Arch based distro. Also i'm really salty because Manjaro looked extremely comfy.
I used arch until two days ago when I fucked up my system
Didn't want to reinstall and waste time so I just got fedora again and it's great
What are you talking about?
Manjaro is one of my favorite distro by far
You give up too easily mate, switch to wincuck
my desktop got BTFO'd and I'm thinking about getting a crappy thinkpad as a cheap replacement for meanwhile, never paid attention to the thinkpad threads so here is my question: which model is the best and how much euros do have to spend for a internet machine? I obviously intent on buying a used one, and I think about spending 50-100 euros, will it do?
>>56193892
This fucking entitlement. Jesus Christ.
It's not like we have a whole thread with all this information or something
The T420 is the best model
>tfw daily forever zen+vega masterrace threads
>>56193834
My next build will be full AMD, but not because AMD is better, but because of the monopolistic shit Nvidia is pulling against them (the same deal with Intel).
>>56193834
And when it finally gets released and we get some proper nonbiased benchmarks, I'm willing to bet It'll be a huge disappointment. It will overheat as fuck and not be able to reach high end intel cpu's.
>>56193955
you can always say anything will fail
that way you always have your bases covered
Recently, my CPU's temperature has been abnormally high, what are some cheap methods to get rid of this issue and degrade it to average temperature? (40-60 degrees)
Ice cooling.
Put a block of ice in a zip bag over your cpu.
>>56193818
new thermal paste
new cooler
more fans in case
whats your favourite ganooix editor, /g/? everyone talks about emacs and vim, but what about other editors?
ive used kate for a while, but recetly its been playing up for me, so i was thinking about trying something else out. nano is pretty comfy, but its not as convenient as a gui text editor for some things. i kinda miss a lot of the features i have on visual studio, and was considering giving VS code a go.
Sublime
I use nano mostly since I just edit system configs. For the GUI editor I use Scite.
>>56193798
>Nano
What charger is this for?
>>56193703
That a fucking stupid question. It says IBM
>>56193733
No fucking shit nigga, I was referring to model and not make.
>>56193703
>>56193984
install gentoo you retarded faggot.
