So how long before package managers are obsolete?
I've been using snaps for a while now and they are the best, Truly the way things should have been from the beginning, If something breaks it doesn't take the whole system down with it, Also doesn't shit up the system with dependencies.

Snaps require apparmour enabled kernel, which is kind of a hindrence
Nix/Guix is the future.
Well congrats /g/, you missed the opportunity to help give the world a much needed piece of hardware that respects everyone's freedom:

You better apologize to RMS right now!
What do you say in your defence?
>>56234795
Not like it's the only free hardware that was coming out. The Talos workstation's still going to be a thing

I broke my x-server, g. I was running elementary os and tried installing compiz for a stupid feature, and it screwed up pantheon. I get what i deserve, huh?
Anyway, im not asking for help on how to fix it. It looks like I'm in the business for another OS though, since I don't have the elementary OS iso anymore. Sure i could reinstall, but it wasn't that great to begin with. What do you recommend?
>typed in lynx, heres hoping i can see the thread

you asked for it
>>56234608
i really did. This is my personal computer tho, i was willing to risk functionality for looks
>>56234623
>>56234608
all i do is write essays and browse the internet. All of my technical stuff is through other computers, like home network and such. The terminal was sufficient to accessing them
Well, which do you prefer and why?
Personally, I can't stand matte because it's fuzzy as shit. Glossy is so much sharper.
I personally hate glossy displays, but they're impossible to avoid at this point so I deal with it. I use a 10 year old Apple Cinema Display on my desktop primarily because it's 1200P, 16:10, and matte. Kicks ass, even if it generates the heat of a small space heater.
>>56234580
Both are pretty great.
Glossy a shit because of reflection, kind of negates the advantage of clarity.
The Apple MacBook Pro Retina coating is semi glossy, so it hardly reflects, but is still incredibly clear.
i like matte more but not enough to grind my teeth over it like some people on /g/. generally i think i agree with >>56234626

How do fuck does that still work?
>>56234596
Flash memory isn't affected by magnets...

New Windows 7 SP1 install, what's the best way to get this up to date? Windows update is taking too long.
>>56234443
Install these two updates if windows 7 update check is taking hours. It's going through years of updates.

It's convient, but you don't get the choice in the matter of what updates get installed and it comes with the controversal windows 7 telemetry updates.

Im getting a TB for backup but i also need more regular storage, should i get 2 individual TB drives or get like a 2TB, 6TB, or more
get multiple 6TB drives.
like 2 drives but im not sure if i should get a second larger one
>>56234301
you should get multiple large drives and use them in a RAID 1 or similar mirroring configuration to give you some protection in the event of a hardware failure.
this isn't that complicated. the parameters you gave make it really clear what you should do. if there are constraints you forgot to mention, like a budget or space constraints, then you should try going off on your own, making a list of those constraints, and then coming back. we can't help you if you're handing us new roadblocks every time we suggest an obvious answer to you.
