So here's the thing, I already have a decent base in C but I want to make it stronger. I'm familiar with the language and for the most part understand it. Any materials or books that dive more into actual coding?
>>56265897
Read the "Deep C" slides yet? (Don't mind the ugly images.)
>>56266066
No. Who is the author?
>>56265897
At some point, I think the best way to actually learn a language is to have a challenging project.
I just bought a Western digital 6 tb HD (blue).
Last night, I transferred about 3 tbs worth of data over from my previous hard drive. I then started transferring more files from another HD to it.
It died on me. I ran crystal disk info which gave me a caution due to a "pending sector count" error. I then quick formatted it with CHKDSK and the damn thing was flagged as bad.
Now here's my question.
Should a mass data transfer such as 3tb+ damage an HD in a single transfer? Or was the damn thing just defective?
>>56265896
it's common to have a few bad blocks out of the box. Normally they're found and remapped before the drive gets to you, but whatever.
If you want to get rid of them, fire up dd and fill the drive with zeros (which will take a few days on a drive that big) The drive will either successfully write to the pending sectors and clear the warning, or it won't and it'll remap them to good ones.
Also, because many people don't get the message and think that if they just buy WD/Seagate/HGST/Toshiba/whatever they'll be fine, let's reiterate. YOU STILL NEED TO KEEP CURRENT BACKUPS WHATEVER YOU FUCKING DO AND WHATEVER DRIVE YOU GET. NO DRIVE BRAND OR SAFETY TECHNOLOGY EXCUSES YOU FROM THIS.

>not HGST
ya dun goofed

How do I make i3 status bars less ugly? Any examples
Post more and I'll help
>>56265808
Like that?
>>56265952
Of what?
>>56266032
Do you have any examples with a messy desktop? Like browser + text editors.
I just feel like the bar for the applications (which I think you have disabled) is kind of ugly and bulky but I need it for some type of orientation.
I want to stop using tabs in my browser use i3 to manage the windows.
Can I expand the loop from the h100i v2? I want to add a gtx 1070 with a block to the loop. The v2's pump is more powerful so I think It could handle one block. What i'm worried about is compatibility, how hard would it be to mod?
>>56265745
Can you google? Also just don't do it with an aluminum radiator. It'll be easier and cheaper to get a hybrid card
>>56265745
Answer is no.
The pump is too weak
It's a sealed loop for a reason.
Get a real loop not that seal peasant shit.
>>56265745
You could, but don't.
It wont work well because the pump isn't that great. If you wanted to liquid cool both the cpu and gpu you should have just built a custom loop.
Find a flaw
Protip: You can't

Emacs user who is considering moving to vim here.
The modifier key paradigm used by Emacs would make sense if modern keyboard layouts made sense. But unfortunately for all of us they don't, so vim is better in that regard.
Also the whole “if your task involves modifying text then do your task in Emacs” philosophy used to make sense when you could do pretty much anything in Emacs. But these days there are too many times you have to leave Emacs (e.g. web browsing) for this philosophy to be in any way consistent. Hence, Vim's unix — “do one job and do it well” — philosophy tends to make more sense these days.
Should I take the plunge or just keep hacking Emacs?

it's just a subset of pic related
Hey /g/, so anyways I was in my local Costco yesterday and there was a DirecTV salesman in there trying to get to me to buy cable. I told him that we just do internet through Xfinity, no cable. Then the guy proceeds to tell me that when you are watching cable TV that slows down your internet. I've been a networking student for two years (maybe not cable specific) and I have never heard this before. I could understand if the guy was talking about streaming, but he was simply talking about watching cable TV.
The thing that would be slowing down your cable internet is streaming, downloading, and everyone else in the area due to cable being a shared medium.
That doesn't make sense for me for a few reason main being that even when your TV would be off the box is still getting signal...
I feel even stupid to even ask this.
tl;dr
Does watching cable TV slowdown your internet?
Also to note that whenever I've had cable tv and internet. We've had two separate boxes that work independently of each other.

You are going to struggle running anything higher than 720p low with that crap.
It's better than what you have, that's for sure. But if could get a RX 450

save up your money for another month and actually buy something worth owning, at least X60 level.

Can we have a thread about communications technologies? e.g. Shortwave radios, ham radios, vintage communications, etc. I never see this stuff discussed on /g/
I listen to Radio Havana on a $20 Tecsun portable, but for FM I just use an old Bose wave.
I'm very interested in SDR.
>>56265365
Tecsun seems like a good budget brand for shortwave listening. I think you can find some models that support up to 12 bands for just under $20.
How does Apple justify this?
$200 for 8GB of RAM
>>56265238
Because it just works, unlike winblows.
>>56265248
Windows RAM doesn't work?
>>56265238
Apple always oversells the cheap stuff, this is nothing new.
Why do people on g think that the "age of linux desktop" is coming?
Are they completly unaware of real life stuff or is it turbo autism what big percentage of lonix users have?
>>56265186
That's what's going to cause the YotLD. Normies no longer have any interest in desktops, they want phones and tablets and maybe laptops. The only people who're left buying desktops will be the crowd that's more likely to use Linux.
>>56265932
Laptops use desktop os too
Dont make us laugh, are you even a regular on 4chan let alone /g/?
You think it matters what every litte minded ninkumpoop normie uses as there os? At this point anyone can safely say the battles aleady over linux has one the smart croud and thats all that matters.
So here. take this idiot reward. you earned it,
