All the Ruby hipsters are jumping ship to Elixir.
Is it any good?

I think there is more to it.

They're coasting on the Erlang communities last few decades of real engineering work. So it's pretty good.
Elixir has almost everything I'd ever want in a language. It's got a way to work with every sort of collection type. Its got everything immutable by default. Its got macros that are almost as good as lisps. Its got a nice clean syntax and a bunch of shit to make cumbersome shit in erlang nice. Its got a great web framework and package manager. The communities focused on developer tooling.
The only thing I wish it had were static types. You can use dialyzer but its not the same as it being built into the language. Overall I'd say give it a try, it's a real nice language I wish I could use it at work instead of fucking javascript and java
I have a rmbp late 2015 that runs el cap
I kind of miss Linux, do people still install it on macbooks? I did a quick search and everyone seems to say these don't have good support and it not worth it
Anyone here run Linux on an rmbp?
It's really easy, no idea what those retards are talking about. Just plug in the usb livedvd that you burned with Universal USB installer and hold "option" during reboot. Or is it "alt"? One of those two keys.

Well now you have to patch the firmware a bit or something because they disable booting off liveusbs by default by I was mostly wondering about drivers and post install support, high DPI scaling and apparently lots of shit changed since 2013 models
is the gloss from mbp really that bad? can you get nongloss?
glad I got an xps...
When does it make sense to use Redis instead of SQL/Postgres?
never
It's not used instead of relational database.
>>56273104
I know, which is why I'm asking for the specific use cases.
I'm writing my own INI file parser for muh extra features and the lulz.

I'm a CE/Comp-Sci undergrad. what kind of masters should I get if I want to eventually freelance. so no management type masters.
The only people who can really work freelance in the tech industry are ether highly skilled software consultants (who have naturally worked for year and years under a boss) or then people who do made-to-order websites and (mobile) apps who earn like crap and have to constantly deal with customers adding or changing the requirements as the project goes on. There's also freelance graphical designers, but there are more art school than tech people and suffer from the same issues as freelance web and app developers.
If you want to be self-employed and make good money while at it, you really shouldn't have gone into tech, but into crafts.
>>56273073
>I want to eventually freelance
Freelance what? Programming?
>tfw you wish you were skilled enough in programming to create your own automated service of some type to just sit back and take in the dough.
How do I into this? I want to just take in an order, put it through a system, output the final product, sell it.
According to reddit these Micca MB42X are really good for the price but they're not available in France.
With shipping and fees it goes from 89$ to to 149$(137,78€)
So I guess they're no longer worth it.
Do you know any other good speakers in that price range ?

Does anyone on g have a VIA processor?
My onboard sound chip is VIA, and my pcie usb 3 card has a VIA chip on it, but I'm curious if anyone here has a CPU from them.
Why did you buy it, what do you use it for, and which model is it?
Pic unrelated

I have a debian server that I'm setting up. I have a static IP. When I do "service networking restart" the ipv4 doesn't connect and I have to type the command twice. This is really bad for SSH any ideas?

>2013, upgrade from a HTC desire s to a nexus 5
>feeling excited, first smartphone I didn't buy secondhand (am poorfag)
>use it for 2 years, start feeling the urge to upgrade
>girlfriends brother is selling his g3
1440p screen, better camera, better battery life, better SoC, why not.
>buy it for 150 aud, came with wireless charger and everything included
>3 months later, plug it into charger, charger explodes, phone still seemingly works
>battery now drains fast, only getting 8 hours standby time. Phone is constantly warm when on
>Go back to Nexus 5 for a few weeks
>enjoying that Nexus experience again
>redmi note 3 pro gets very popular on g
>decide to buy the redmi 3 pro instead because 5 inches feels nicer in the hand

>2 months later, notice battery life isn't as good
>check battery stats, getting 6 hours SoT now
>thinking its a rogue app, I factory reset
>didn't help.
>check aliexpress and the seller is gone and the store is closed
If battery life continues to get worse, I'll be forced back to my nexus 5.
Am I doomed to use that Nexus for the rest of my life?
Pic related. A pic of my g3 with the camera watching my redmi.
I'm tempted to try another chinkphone like the LeTV Le 1 x600, it looks pretty nice.
Or does Xiaomi have international warranty I can use?
>>56272752
Weird thing about the redmi though, battery drain with the screen off is the same, it's just halved SoT for some strange reason.

Any reason why they stopped at 2 threads per core?
Why not 4 or 8 threads on each core.
Diminishing returns
Look up IBM SMT4 and SMT8 on Power8 and Power9.
Simultaneous multithreading is only really useful if your CPU has the resources to actually deal with that many concurrent threads, which means lots of FPUs, large caches, etc.
>>56272572
>Any reason why they stopped at 2 threads per core?
where the fuck are you pulling that shit from ? they didn't stop at 2 threads per core
