Disk read error on startup, right after installing Windows 7 on new SSD.
Laptop's hard drive died, I suggested buying an SSD to keep it for a bit longer.
Turns out, after much bickering, attempting from several computers, and even dabbling in Russian YouTube computer voodoo, the thing is adamant at refusing the drive. I've tested the drive, it works perfectly anywhere else.
Using a computer capable of installing the operating system is not the solution.
The Windows installer provides different errors.
One error that got me worried, was that the controller was unable to "start" the SSD. Odd wording.
I've plugged SATA 3 SSD's into SATA 2 boards before, with great success.
Why is this shit failing on me?
I've cross-tested in every imaginable way to try to exclude possibilities.
TL;DR:
Gay toaster is being a faggot
Is it even remotely possible that a drive controller, previously using an HDD, is incapable of using an SSD?
Are there workarounds?
I can't imagine a BIOS firmware update would do me any good, but I just can't believe that this would be a hardware issue.
Install Gentoo
i had similar issues using a new hdd with an old lga 775 board that didnt even support core2 duo's only Pentium D's. It was a brand new WD Black.
S.M.A.R.T check failed every POST and it was impossible to boot off of it without changing to IDE mode in the bios.
I imagine an SSD would have been an even bigger nightmare with that toaster.

Is a two year CompTIA certificate from my local community college worth anything?
No
well the A+ can get you a helpdesk job pretty easily which usually nets a comfy job that's higher than minimum wage as long as you don't mind dealing with dumb people
>>56282171
2 Years old? Yes.
Capitalize on it today before it expires... Then it will be truly useless.
If you're still in skewl get an internship -> job out of it.
I've just used xmodmap to switch tab & backslash/pipe, and suggest you do the same. the keycaps are even the same size, for the non touch typers amongst us ;~)
navigation keys live on the right side of the keyboard. home, end, arrow cluster, pg up/down—all of these are right-hand keys. so why is tab on the left with the modifiers? it doesn't make any sense. try my change. you just might like it
>>56282149
You've used this new trip only a handful of times, and everyone already filtered you.
Nice.

they're missing out on some good posts desu
I love Maki!
building a mid range budget PC that I hope can last for a while build is mostly based off a build by austin evans
Intel Core i5-6500
Gigabyte H170M-DS3H
AMD RX 480 (this card is usually out of stock so i was thingking of replacing with the MSI gaming version slightly more expensive but whatever)
Corsair 100R
8GB Corsair Vengeance
240GB Crucial BX200
1TB WD Black
500W EVGA PSU
Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive DRW-24B1ST
I was hoping to change the case since the regular cosair one is kinda bland this would be my first time building a computer so thoughts on it would be appreciated
Best get a second opinion on the ssd. I think some annons have said that those tank like fuck and die fast.
>>56282674
it wouldnt increase the price of the build too much if I switched to a more reputable brand
>>56282114
Aren't WD blues cheaper than WD blacks? You should get one of those instead
>Zen outperforming Intel's 1000 bucks CPUs.
>RX 480 killing the 1060 on new games.
>Radeon market share up 10% in the last quarter.
>Rumors on AMD releasing Vega GPUs as soon as October.
>Apple to include AMD's x86 SoC on next gen Macbooks, the best selling laptops in the market.
How did this happen?
>>56282113
why call 64bit x86 fking gay
>>56282140
yeh i never understand that either
>tfw I just built a new pc with a 6600k and 1070
Hey /g/. Let's all generate primes. Randomly. Or not the choice is yours.

Aw come on you guys are smarter than sci
Pic related is the cluster I found it on.

Is Gsync worth it over FreeSync, /g/?
What justifies the price premium?
>>56282084
gsync has hardware in the monitor and actually works unlike freesync. Both must be abandoned in favour of vesa adaptive sync tho
>>56282084
>vesa adaptive sync
please tell me more
This is proof somebody is intentionally shitting up this board with those threads.
What can I do with this? I was told I could stream new movies, watch NFL Network, and more (for free).
I just need to 'crack' it.
>>56282048
Subscribe to Netflix and watch Stranger Things. Forget about your troubles and maybe eat some popcorn. With butter, anon. With butter.
It's great,
>>56282145
What anon says.
Yeah I think for the NFL network you need to pay for a subscription or some shit. Otherwise, as far as cracking it they're probably talking about kodi paired with the exodus addon. I think. I know you can get kodi on Amazon stuff, not certain about roku.
>there are people in /g/ right now who can't use the command line efficiently
Really ?

What the fuck is stopping people from making a decent browser? Why is everything a reskin of Chrome? Why is Firefox even worse?
Fuck this noise, I just want a decent browser.
JavaScript
I had hoped Vivaldi was going to be a new Opera but nooooooooo it had to be another Chrome.
>mfw the only decent browser is three years old
FUCK!
I just removed all non-free packages from my GNU+Linux, and now the system runs like shit.
Can you help me write an email describing my problem to RMS, one word at a time?
Dear,
Susan

Gentoo
What does /g/ think is the next step in computing? Will we see 32-bit CPUs with 64-bit extensions bolted on with 128-bit extensions bolted onto those, or will we finally move away from x86 altogether?
Also, daily reminder that Intel actually tried to move on from x86 once, and AMD is the reason we're still on it.
64+ core arm chips
>>56281915
>next step
> 32-bit CPUs with 64-bit extensions bolted on with 128-bit extensions
Nigga you're describing SSE from 1999.
We're currently on 512bit bolted on extensions.
>>56281915
More efficient manufacturing processes, new materials, diminishing, incremental gains in performance to enhance the x86 architecture.
We're not ditching x86 any time soon, there is simply no reason to.
as someone who does web dev for a living but wants to learn another language as an hobby, what would /g/ suggest? Was thinking about python.
>>56281778
Python is great for if you just want to quickly make a program that does simple tasks.
If you want to do things efficiently, don't bother with it.
>>56281778
Python is a good hobby language. The amount of shit you can just import is crazy.
C++
I am a manager at a hotel and would like to learn the ins and outs of Filemakerpro. Can you suggest a good website tutorial so I can teach myself? Much obliged.
>>56281706
better get a phd, lad
It's literally on the Filemaker Pro website.
