So, I have acquired an industrial PC that handles PLCs, servos, drives and all that stuff. It runs on 24V DC so I'll need to secure an external power supply, but I have the PC, software PLC, connectors, battery backup, etc.
Any ideas for projects?

The GPL.

Literally nothing, there are some examples. Unless you make literal billions on that no one would sue you even.
Nothing, it's done all the time.
FUCK javascript. More specifically, fuck all JS trendy practices in 2016. How the fuck is it that it takes me hours to set up a project that concatenates and minifies a handful of JS files. Fucking unbelievable. The state of JS as of today:
>JS is a great tool
>so we built another tool to manage that great tool
>but wait, we build another tool to manage the tool that manages your tool
>thus, we built a set of tools to make your life easier trust us anon it's the shit
>also, we build a set of tools, and anon, it's written completely in JS because is awesome!!!!
Frameworks upon libraries upon packages upon dependencies. And don't even get me started on React hipsters who shit on separation of concerns but will brag about not using jQuery for hours.

What happened to steam OS? I never see it posted here anymore.
I have an old hd6870 and i3 2120 laying around with 6GB ddr3 memory. Could I assemble it into a cheap steam box and play shit like cs go on my tv? How are Linux drivers for AMD now? Still trash?
>>56329590
yes you can
from what i understand, amd's drivers are still pretty ass for linux but the way to go if you want open sores
i think 6000hd series got legacy'd tho but cs:go isn't intensive
>>56329590
Its just ubuntu with a skin.

They've come a long way, both blob and open sores. Also, nvidia blob is generally pretty decent.
what are these white speakers i see pretty much everywhere?
https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Premium-Powered-Desktop-Speakers/dp/B000VKEFN2
why do people use nyc as a background?
nyc is ugly as hell
Audioengine. Though I hear they are a bit overpriced for their performance.
Newfags report
It's been a short summer and the posters seem to be out of place here.
List your technical knowledge, the basics:
>Can you assemble your own pc
>Do you know difference between amd, intel and nvidia?
>Your current setup?
>Can you repair your own electronics? (soldering Apple's motherboards for upgrades fex.)
>Any knowledge about various linux distributions?
>Coding knowledge?
>Programming languages?
>Phone's bricked, can you fix it?

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.
