After a month of GNU/Linux only (25 years of dual-booting GNU/Linux and Windows), Windows feels... bloated. So much bloated. Will keep it for muh gaymen but, why does it feel so bloated? Is it just me or did it get worse by time?

Part of the problem as time went on MS made it more difficult to customize and less modular. Meaning you could for example remove certain aspects of the OS and keep it lean for example gaymin. Win98SE you could by default uninstall many components and use third party tools to do even more. Same thing was possible up to XP64 for the most part. You can/could do something similar in Vista and Win7 but it's not the same and prone to falling apart. Android suffers from similar problems now 5.0 to 7.0.

I picked up a Samsung Q1 Ultra for about 70 bucks, I'm planning on upgrading the ram to 2gb, sticking an old SSD in there, and seeing if I can't manage to find a decent linux distro for it.

What UMPC plans do you lads have?

They were nice to have 10 years ago as spare mice but they're just too low DPI for anything above fucking 1280x1024... Using it on 1080p the cursor just skips pixels constantly. /g/ shilling those mice in 2016 is the most autistic shit ever, I tried to play CS:S with them in like 2008 and it was horrible.

Encryption against law enforcement is a bad thing. It's all fine and dandy to encrypt your device against unauthorized use. But if the government gets a warrant the manufacturer and/or owner should be required to give them access to the smartphone and all of the information on it. This is essential to our safety.

Since 9/11, we've waved goodbye to much of the privacy we had before. This is a perfectly natural reaction to the worst terrorist attack on US soil. Since then, no major terrorist attack happened on the scale of 9/11 and that could be attributed, partially, to the government having more control of our information.
