This might be a stupid question /g/, but I need advice.

I'm ordering a laptop on Ebay from America to Europe, and I've been wondering if I can possibly face some customs since, well, it's a laptop. I heard from my friends that they don't really like people bringing tech shit back to Europe since it's generally cheaper in murrica (I will pay about 50$ for shipping and thats still 30% cheaper then the same latop from the retailer here)

Shoud I go for it?

>they don't really like people bringing tech shit back to Europe
They don't care and there's no import tax on laptops, but you'll have to pay VAT which varies between about 15 and 25 percent in Europe.
>>
>>56376602
Do you think that's included in the price on Ebay since I have my shipping location already set?
>>
>>56376623
It's not included in the price. You'll have to pay it locally, usually at the customs office.

There's no substitute for Firefox. It doesn't matter if it is a broken down pile of shit, I have to use it because I can't use anything else.
>most of the browsers are buggy piles of goddamn garbage that won't even work right half the time
>chromium-based browsers don't have a simple and effective per-site script blocker, and no, UBO/uMatrix isn't a substitute, it's a pile of shit that requires 30 minutes of fucking with shit to either block too much or not block nearly enough, it doesn't fucking just goddamn work like NS

Meh anything from Logitech for 10-20$ . Unless you are singing or your PC fans are too loud you will be fine.
>>
Only have experience with two headsets. Corsair void has a decent working mic. But the hyper x cloud sounds perfectly crisp. Audio quality of the headphones is about the same.

Sounds like a dream job for an introvert or someone who hates being around other people.

This is a thread for those who enjoy using BlackBerry smartphones [and other devices] which run the wonderful, QNX-based, BlackBerry 10 OS (like the Passport, Classic, Q10, Q5, Z30 and so on). Let's share the advantages of using a BB10 device, discuss tips, recommend apps, and have a good ol' fashioned circle-jerk. I'll start.

Reasons not to use a BlackBerry 10 Device:
- You use another god tier smartphone like the Ubuntu Phone, Jolla Phone, or the eminently modifiable Nokia N900
- You have reached ascended master status and only rely on a dumbphone / no phone at all
- You're a negro child who needs to play all the latest Android gaymes on his phone
- You love drinking anal leakage from the Google botnet
- You need your hand held by Apple faggetz

Reasons to use a BlackBerry 10 device:
- Secure, stable, fast, responsive, based on the glorious Unix-like QNX operating system.

- Robust. Comes OOTB with a bevy of features / capabilities that on the other mobile OSes you'd only get via a custom ROM or multiple third-party apps. It can do way more than a fresh install of iOS or stock Android can. Also, the BlackBerry Assistant is objectively more functional than Apple's Siri.

- No feature creep. Because BB10 has become a bit of a niche platform, it is maintained rather than "enhanced" with new features every update. Updates mainly focus on improving upon existing features, increasing performance, security patches and so on. This means you can use it to help you get shit done, rather than worrying about changing your workflow. This is the same reason many of us stick with LTS releases of LiGNUx distros. When you actually have to get work done in the real world, it's far better to know your device well, and be able to rely on its stability.

- Compatible with legacy Android apps (4.4 and below). Ships with Amazon AppStore, but you can add F-Droid, APKPure, and others, on the occasions you might need something that's not provided in the OS, or via BlackBerry World.

~recommended non-stock apps from BlackBerry World that were mentioned there~
Web:
- Browsie Browser: Alternative web browser that's fast and clean like the stock browser, but sports a bunch of extra features, like ad-blocking that actually blocks network connections to ad-servers. Perfect for when you're only on mobile.

Media:
- No Tag Player: An audio player for those times when you put a bunch of untagged music on your phone, and just want to play it by directory and file name. While the stock music player is fucking great in every other respect, that's the one feature it's missing.
- Neutron: Full-featured media player with all the bells and whistles you'd find on a desktop OS.
- WaveRecorder: Does what it says. Records audio in uncompressed .wav format, and does it well.
- Parrot: Useful and polished audio recording utility.
-FastTube: Efficient Youtube interface

Productivity:
- FBReader: While it's another Android port, it's hands down the best eBook reader for BB10.
- Renamed Todo: Task list management application that actually follows the widely used ToDo.txt format / conventions. Can mange todo.txt files both locally, and in the cloud.
- TxtEdit: Handy minimalist text editor that supports syntax highlighting.
- File Diff: A graphical interface to diff. Useful.

System:
- Total Commander: Great secondary file manger ported from Android. Can do things like search within text files and other documents. Also comes with a nifty built-in text editor, media viewer, and audio player.
- Term48: Fantastic terminal emulator.
- Contacts ImEx: Export single contacts, or all of them, to vCard or CSV files.

Social:
- FaceSlim: An Android port for FaceBook that actually respects your privacy and freedom.
- Notification for FaceBook: Similar to above.

Android App stores:
- F-Droid
-APKPure

My phone slows down sometimes. Like when I start typing, assistant will mess up the text in the search field, browser doesn't respond very well after using it for about 45-60 minutes. It's not all the time. Just some times. Slow. The RAM is never full. I always have more than 400mb free I've checked. Any idea why it slows down like that?
>>
>>56377735
check underthe cpu tab of device monitor and close any unnecessary / third-party apps that are currently running. also make sure that there's not a huge datastore/cache for your browser, and in your android folder. that should clear it up.

I used to be a Kickass user, mostly for TV series, what should I be using now? Please don't say Piratebay.

Why did it fail?
I think it failed because it used a locked out mtp that was unique to the zune.
Also it didn't have a youtube app.

Shit I can barley get it to sync on my linux distro now.

Because almost no one had a Zune HD or Windows Phone.
Because everyone else was already using iTunes since they all owned at least one Apple product in their life.

It's still the music player I use, but wish I could trim some of the legacy features out of it so it'd be more lightweight and faster to boot.
>>
i still have my original brick first gen. shit still works
I also have the HD and its running strong since it came out

Imma be real sad when it bites the dust
>>
>>56375969
What?

It was released when the iPod was already dying in favor of phones that could play music.

The Zune HD, the only good iteration of the Zune, was released *after* the iPhone 3GS.

I owned the Zune HD, and I loved the interface, but it was too little too late.

1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Up to date is a very subjective term.
Debian unstable is nice.
DEs and WMs are also very subjective, I would suggest you to try a few before deciding.

Hi /g/. I'm currently attending my first year of college and heard about student discounts etc,. parents are paying for 1k~ of the laptop, and I'm willing to dish out a hundred or two to get something better if possible (that will last long, won't be obsolete by the end of senior year, etc).

I've done quite a bit of research over the past few days, and decided pretty fast that I don't want a macbook air / pro. Not touch screen, old intel architecture, and mostly unimpressive specs for the price. The other ultrabooks etc I have looked at were good but what I'm mainly wanting is something to take notes on and also a sort of mobile desktop, so what I came upon were basically only two choices.

- Surface pro X (whichever the newest one out right now is) or Surface Book
- Spectre x360 4k Res model

The thing that tears me between these two choices is that the spectre has very good specs for the price. I can save 150 dollars because of the discount and not have to pay anything because it'll be 1k dollars flat for i7 cpu, 4k res display, and tablet hybrid; but, I had a few places that is has heating problems being on integrated graphics and 4k resolution, and I'm not sure how good the battery life is at that res.

The surface pro / Books look great, 3000x2000 and it's by Microsoft, and with the new firmware and drivers everything apparently just werks now, comes with Windows 10 Pro, and the pen on there is apparently very good and responsive, but the price is really steep to upgrade to an i7 from the i5 it initially comes with.
